Well Known Springfield Young Man Marries Miss Stella Ray of Virden – Wedding Surprise to His Parents.
A telegram received by the State Register last evening form St. Louis states that James R. McGrue, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. O. McGrue of 822 East Capitol avenue, and Miss Stella B. Ray, a prominent young lady of Virden, were licensed yesterday in St. Louis to marry. Young McGrue’s parents knew nothing of their son’s matrimonial intentions when he left yesterday morning for St. Louis.
“I am going to St. Louis to attend a funeral,” he laughingly announced as he left home, and the dispatch from St. Louis would lead one to believe that the funeral was a most enjoyable occasion. Mr. McGrue is employed as a bookkeeper in the office of his father’s planning mill.  He is well known and liked among the young people of Springfield, being for some time a student in the Springfield high school and in business college. Miss Ray is of a prominent Virden family, being popular in social circles of that city. McGrue’s parents did not know last evening just where or by whom the couple were married, but supposed that the ceremony was performed yesterday in one of the Protestant churches of St. Louis.  Mr. and Mrs. McGrue will make their home in this city.
