A Thank You to the Friends and Family of Wayne Crumley
On April 4, 2003 a Golden Heart stopped beating, that of Wayne Albert Crumley. After a hard weekend of grief many came together to mourn our loss and comfort us in our sorrow. For this we are truly grateful. In our time of need we learned how much our; husband, father, and grandfather meant, not just to us, but to the many others who came to comfort us in our time of need at his passing.
Wayne was a man with a giant heart who never thought twice about giving help to those in need. He worked hard for everything he achieved in life, and found his enjoyment in the work that he did. Whether providing for his family while working at Caterpillar, until his retirement, or maintaining his properties for Crumley Apartments. Wayne always worked hard. Even in his spare time he never stopped working, there were plenty of trees to fall and fires to burn. He was a great man that we looked up to, and strove to be more like.
We would like to thank those who helped us, and comforted us though the services, which were a great tribute to the life of a truly great man. The family would like to thank Reverend Jay Curry, who also comforted us in the loss of Wayne's daughter Jeannie, who performed an endearing, and much appreciated service to which we are truly grateful for. We would also like to thank the gentleman who served as pallbearers on Wayne's behalf. We are also very grateful to all who were present at the services and the prayers given on our behalf.
The Crumley family would like to thank all of those who came to us in our time of need, family and friends alike, and helped us honor a truly wonderful man whose largest attribute was his enormous heart. May he be appreciated in Heaven as he was here on Earth.

Obituary for Delevan "Joseph" L. Orr
Rushville Times, December 29, 1937
Joseph Orr Of Bainbridge Died Suddenly On Thursday
Joseph Orr, prominent Bainbridge township farmer, died suddenly Thursday, forenoon at his home following a heart attack. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Fred Wilson of Vermont, were held at the Christian church , in Rushville Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the Rushville cemetery.
The following obituary was read at the service:
Delevan L. Orr, son of Henry and Margaret Bowlin Orr, was born Aug 21, 1871, on a farm in Bainbridge township, Schuyler county, Ill. He passed away Dec. 23, 1937, at his home in Bainbridge in his sixty-seventh year as the result of a sudden heart attack. He had been enjoying his usual good health, being out about the place that morning. He went to the house about 9 o'clock and while talking with his family complained of a pain in his chest, but did not think it serious, refusing to have a doctor called at that time. About 10:30 o'clock, he started to walk across the room, he fell with the attack, and Dr. Munson, who arrived a short time later, said death had come instantly.
Mr. Orr grew to manhood on his father's farm where he became an industrious young farmer. On Aug. 11, 1898, he was united in marriage with Lillie Lawler, daughter of John Henry and Sarah (Kelly) Lawler of Woodstock township, Schuyler County. To them were born seven children: John Henry, Sarah Margaret, wife of Bert Goodwin, Harvey Delevan, Thomas B., Warren Alfred, Laura Katherine and Lillie May, all of Schuyler county, and all living except Harvey, who preceded his father in death Feb. 9, 1929. He is also survived by his wife and two brothers, Ernest M. and Sylvanus B. Orr, of this vicinity and four grandchildren. Two sisters, Dora , wife of Charles Acker and Cora, wife of Emery Payne, have preceeded him. After marriage, Mr. Orr continued farming and by thrift and industry was able to provide well for his large family and acquire a splendid farm of his own. He was one of the substantial dependable citizens of the township, a good neighbor and always ready to help in trouble, sickness or death. He possessed a kind nature and jovial disposition and will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends.
Life and death are unsolved mysteries, yet death may be a blessing, as it takes the darkness to bring out the stars, it perhaps takes the shadows of death to bring out our better natures, make us overlook the trivial faults and see the fine qualites of our neighbors and friends which they always possessed but which we failed to see before. Then, in this spirit, let us hold in memory the kind deeds of our departed neighbor and friend.

Obituary for Joseph Orr
Rushville Times, September 3, 1896
Orr, Joseph - An Old Pioneer Gone.
Joseph Orr was born in Fermanaugh county, Ireland, March 31, 1805; died at his home in Bainbridge township, this county, Aug. 29, 1896; aged 91 years, 4 months and 29 days. He was married to Mary Ann Burnsides, Oct. 12, 1831. To them were born five children, three of whom - Mrs. Jane Reeves, Mrs. Mary A. Vaughn and Henry Orr - still live.
They came to America in November, 1840; moved to Bainbridge township and lived there ever since. On the voyage, in a storm, Mr. Orr received a blow that fractured his skull. A silver plate was found necessary. He was not fully recovered when Mr. John Beatty, of this city, an old neighbor and schoolmate of his in Ireland 73 years ago, went to see him in Pittsburg, where he stopped for a time with old acquaintances. His son thinks that he never fully recovered from that injury, as he was hardly right in his mind at times since then. The immense vitality and vigor of Mr. Orr is indicated by the fact that but a few weeks ago he walked into Rushville alone. A man of strong passions and great will power, he never forgot a favor nor an injury. He never tired of telling how Ezra Jackson, of Rushville, went down one cold day and taught him how to use an ax and how to "make on" a fire of wood! There was only a path then to Rushville, it was a village of log houses, with two three frame building. But the old log courthouse had been replaced by the new brick in the square and business was looking up. The old times are gone and the early pioneers are nearly all departed. The old settlers around him then have been buried away these years. His death was sudden - gave away all at once; and in his death gave no assurance of hope beyond.
The funeral was conducted at the home place last Sunday at 11 o'clock, in the presence of a great company of people, by Rev. O. T. Rogers, and the remains laid away in the Gillette graveyard. O. T. Rogers.

Obituary for Margaret Bowlin Orr
died: February 16, 1927
Rushville Times, February 16, 1927
Died Monday From Burns; Clothing Caught Fire From Live Coals In A Smoke House At Her Home In Bainbridge Township On Monday Afternoon.
Mrs. Margaret Orr, widow of the late Henry Orr of Bainbridge township, aged eighty-three years, died on Monday night at 10 o'clock from burns received five hours earlier at her home five miles southeast of Rushville, where she resided with her son, Ernest Orr. Mrs. Orr had gone to the smoke house, closely adjacent to the dwelling , and while there her clothing caught fire by coming in contact with a kettle of live coals. Her daughter-in-law did not know she had left the residence until she heard her scream and on going to the smoke house found her enveloped in flames. Using rugs and heavy clothing, the younger Mrs. Orr made a futile attempt to smother out the flames, but in this was unsuccessful and all of the clothing was burned from the body of the elderly woman with the exception of one shoe as she stood upright grasping the back of a chair. Realizing her helplessness in the situation, Mrs. Ernest Orr telephoned to neighbors for aid and when they arrived Mrs. Orr to speak, but seemed to recognize her children gathered about her bedside. Dr. C. M. Fleming was summoned and taken to the home by her son, S. B. Orr with his team and wagon, the roads being impassable for an automobile. He administered treatment to alleviate her suffering and death came to relieve her at 10 o'clock Monday night. Mrs. Orr was a native resident of Bainbridge township and her entire life of eighty-three years had been spent in the neighborhood where she was born. She was a woman who ever held the love and affection of her friends and neighbors and her long life was marked by kindly deeds of mercy that endear her memory in the hearts of those who knew her thruout the long lapse of years.
{Daughter of John and Louisa Bowlin} of Kentucky, was born in Bainbridge township, March 1, 1844. Here she grew to young womanhood and in 1867 she became the bride of Henry Orr, also a native of Bainbridge township, and for more than fifty-eight years, they spent life happily together on the old homestead in Bainbridge township, the union of hearts being broken by the death of Mr. Orr in May, 1926. To this union were born five children, one of whom, Dora, the wife of Charles Acker, is deceased. The following children survive to mourn the death of a kind and loving mother: Cora, the wife of Emery Payne of Littleton township; Ernest, S. B. and Delevan Orr, all residents of Bainbridge township. There are also fifteen grand-children. Funeral services were held this (Wednesday) morning at the Christian church in Rushville, conducted by Rev. Fred Wilson. Interment in the Rushville cemetery.

Obituary for Mary Ann Burnside Orr

Died, at her home near Rushville, Ill., Friday morning, Aug. 17th, 1888, Mrs. Mary Ann Orr, wife of Joseph Orr.
Mary Ann Burnside was born in Ireland, Oct. 12th, 1807; was married to Joseph Orr in 1831; came to America in the spring of 1840, and to Schuyler County in the fall of the same year, where she has since resided.
She was the mother of five children, three of whom are living. She was a true and faithful wife, a devoted mother, and was always giving good advice.
In youth she untied with the Presbyterian Church, and always held to that faith. She has been a great sufferer for many years.
During these years of affliction she was never heard to complain of the hardness of her lot; but, like a Christian, bore it, knowing that God meant her good. She often expressed her desire to be safely housed in heaven. In a visit to her brother on his death bed he asked her to meet him in heaven. She told him she would, and felt that she was ready to go.
Funeral services, conducted by the writer, were held at the family residence on Saturday morning last, in the presence of a large company of friends and neighbors, who thus testified of the high esteem in which they held our departed sister; after which the remains were conveyed to their rest in the Gillette Cemetery. John Knowles.

Obituary for Perces Catherine Bryan Overmiller
died: July 23, 1933
Biographical sketch below was read at the funeral:
Mrs. Perces Bryan Overmiller was born to Thomas and Emeline Bryan of the state of West Virginia on July 15th, 1852. A few years later the family made their residence in Fostoria of Fulton county, Ill.
On December 5th of 1873 she was married to John Overmiller also of Fostoria. To this union were born eleven children. Sylvester, the first born, died in infancy. The other ten children of the family with the father and mother held the family circle unbroken until the call came for Mother Overmiller on last Sunday, July 23rd at 10:25 in the evening.
Father and Mother Overmiller with their family of four children came to the farm in Smith county, Kansas with the pioneers of 1882. On this farm the family grew and were brought to maturity in a christian home. It was in the first year of this residence that the fellowship of the Fairview United Brethren church was brought into organization. With Mr. and Mrs. John Overmiller, were Mrs. John Dierdorff and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Kimball as parties responsible for the organization of the church. These five charter members of the church which was destined to become the cradle of religious training for their own families as for many who were to follow in the years just ahead.
A brief respite of fifteen years was taken from the farm residence while Father and Mother Overmiller made their home in Smith Center, Kansas, in a comfortable little home in the heart of the town. Here many new friends were made. Living near the First Congregational church of Smith Center they were kindly invited to worship with the splendid people of that church. Here they found fellowship among christian people and enjoyed many hours of spiritual service.
Increasing years and failing health sponsored a move to the home on the farm again where Willis and Mrytle, with other members of the family, rendered kind and loving care until the call came for Mother's promotion at the age of 81 years and 8 days.
Her's was a life of fruitage and honor. She was a woman of deep quiet, christian faith and a confident trust in a Divine Providence. She became a member of the United Brethren church in which her father was a minister early in her girlhood.
Being a wife and mother of the highest and most honored type she won and held a position of honor and high esteem both in the hearts of her own family and a host of friends.
On the morning of Saturday, July 22nd, Mother Overmiller called for the members of the family who could be reached and told them that although she had not expected to go so soon, she was answering the call of the Master. After giving her last word of admonition and blessing she passed into a coma from which she never fully emerged until she slept in the arms of her Master just after the closing of our Last Lord's Day.
Those left to do honor to the sacred memory of this noble wife and mother are John Overmiller, her husband; four daughters, Elsie Lambert and Bertha Harris of this community, Ina Lambert of Beatrice, Nebr., Carrie Dierdorff of Hastings, Nebr.; and six sons, Chester and Willis of the home community, Lewis of Tulsa, Okla., Ray of York, Nebr., Lonnie of Venice, Calif., and Vern of Flagler, Colo. Mrs. Overmiller is survived by a brother, Lon Bryan and a sister, Mrs. Addie Litchfield of Illinois, who join with the family, a large group of grandchildren, other relatives and many friends in loving memory of her beautiful life.
Note: found in a scrapbook in Roswell, New Mexico by Nancy Harvey while going though her mother's things after her death. "The scrapbook is one which my great grandmother, Amanda Bryan Wetzel, or perhaps my grandmother, Nettie Wetzel Dean, pasted lots of obituaries of family and friends. These families were from around McDonough, Fulton and Schuyler Counties. These obits are probably around a hundred years old or may be more."

Obituary for James "Buffalo" Park
The Schuyler News, Wednesday, September 12, 1934
In Memoriam
James Park was born on the home farm in section 25 of Rushville (Township) on May 9th, 1869, and departed this life at his home in section 3 of Bainbridge (Township) on Sept. 3rd, 1934, having attained the age of 65 years, 3 months and 24 days.
His parents were David and Jane Malcomson Park, who moved from Mahoning county, Ohio, to Schuyler county in the early sixties.  James was educated in the Pleasant View public school and chose farming as his future vocation after reaching his majority.
On November 28, 1901, he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Robertson of Browning.  To this union five children were born:  Ralph, who died in infancy; and Paul, Grace, Jennie and Ethel who survive.  Grace became the wife of Melvin Smith of Columbus, Adams county, and the fatal motor accident that befell him was a great sorrow to visit their door.  After he bereavement, Mrs. Smith and little daughter, Maxine, returned to the home of her parents and were very attentive to the sick parent during the sultry summer months, as were the devoted wife and other children, whose attention was a solace to the kind indulgent husband and father.
In 1924, during a series of meetings conducted by Evangelist Charles Stokes at Pleasant View, he was converted and united with the Pleasant View Methodist church, and he and his family have been faithful in attending the church.  He was a member of the board of trustees of the church.
His passing was a shock to the family and friends who hopes the heart ailment, from which he had suffered since last June and which medical care had afforded relief sufficiently for him to be up for days at a time, would lead to better state of health and prolong a life of usefulness in the family, the community and the Sunday school and church, three spheres of loyalty which, to his kind heart, were sacred duties.
From the inception of his illness he told his family and friends that the end of his earthly existence was drawing near, and his preparation for the transition was complete, and those who knew of his faithful work for the Kingdom, were aware of the sincerity of that expression.  In industry he was persevering; in citizenship, he was loyal; in church affairs, he was devout.  He never shirked a duty however irksome, was ever obedient to the law of the land, and inclement weather could not keep him from attending a divine service.  James Park’s life was rich in these qualities that make for immortality of the soul.
Besides those of his household here mentioned, there were six grandchildren, two sisters, namely: Mrs. Loring and Mrs. Annie Dodds, and numerous friends and neighbors; all very attentive and solicitous of his welfare during his illness.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Geo. M. Wilson, were held Wednesday afternoon, from the Methodist church in Pleasant View.  Interment was made in the Messerer cemetery.
