  BEARDSTOWN - Anna M. Long, 57, of Beardstown died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
  Born Feb. 18, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo., to Jessie H. and Armissie Virgie Mae Huffman Piper, she married Willard Dyer in 1964. She then married Gary Wilson on March 25, 1970. She later married Sanford Long in 1983. All three husbands preceded her in death.
  She also was preceded in death by her father.
  Surviving are her mother, Virgie Braind of Bedford, N.H.; one son, David (and Peggy) Dyer of Beardstown; one daughter, Serena Wilson of Beardstown; one brother, Gale Piper of Missouri; two sisters, Dollie Schackleford of Monument, Kan., and June Cressey of Plymouth, Ind.; several half brothers and half sisters; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
  She was a homemaker.
  Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Beardstown City Cemetery.

  MOUNT STERLING - George M. Long, 73, of 3 Grandview Drive died at 8:07 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
  Born Aug. 10, 1924, in LaPlace to George V. and Maude Cripe Long, he married Patricia Snyder on May 30, 1952, in Quincy. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Jeffrey of Mount Sterling; one brother, J. Robert of Decatur; and nieces and nephews.
  A World War II Navy veteran, he served on the USS Boxer. He was president of Long Oliver Co. Inc. He was a member of First Christian Church.
  Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hufnagel Funeral Home. The Revs. Gary Bass and William W. McDermet III will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight, where military rites will be accorded by Mount Sterling American Legion. Additional visitation will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hersman Cemetery in Hersman.

  HAVANA - Services for Joey Lee Long, 17, of 580 S. Plum St. will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.
  He was pronounced dead at 6:18 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001.
  He drowned after trying to swim across the Illinois River between Mason and Fulton counties.
  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
  He was born Nov. 29, 1983, in Canton to Phillip J. and Ginger Farwell Long.
  Surviving are his parents of Havana; his grandparents, Curt and Sharon Farwell and Janette Long, all of Havana, and Dean Farwell of Rushville; two brothers, Nick and Timothy, both of Havana; and one sister, Misty Long of Havana.
  He was a junior at Havana High School, where he was a member of the Spanish Club, was a peer facilitator and played basketball. He also ran cross country in junior high school.
  Memorials may be made to a basketball scholarship in his name at Havana High School.

  BERWICK - John P. Long, 66, of Berwick died at 5:05 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.
  Born May 21, 1938, in Farmington to Paul A. and Ella Mae Kimbrell Long, he married Stella L. Miller Simmons on July 17, 1964, in Abingdon. She survives.
  Also surviving are one daughter, Belinda (and Jason) Bower of Pace, Fla.; two sons, John C. (and Rhonda) of Abingdon and Paul of Valley Station, Ky.; two stepsons, Rick Simmons of Berwick and Michael (and Debbie) Simmons of Abingdon; two sisters, Sharon Hillebrand of Farmington and Linda (and Gene) Polen of Elmwood; five grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by two stepgrandchildren.
  He was an Air Force veteran, serving as a radio operator from 1955 to 1959.
  Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.

  RUSHVILLE - Josephine Mallory Long, 82, of Huntersville, N.C., formerly of Rushville, died at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home.
  She was born March 30, 1915, in Schuyler County to Everett and Mayme Eifert Mallory.
  Surviving are one daughter, Sarah Allen of Cornelius, N.C.; one sister, Louise Logan of Salem, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
  She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. She retired as an X-ray technician at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home, Rushville. The Rev. Scott Henley will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery.

  BLANDINSVILLE - Lawrence C. "Sock" Long, 84, of Blandinsville died at 2:36 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
  Born June 15, 1913, in Terre Haute Township to Luther and Evelyn Alton Long, he married Maxine Bice Ferguson on April 29, 1948. She survives.
  Also surviving are two sons, Larry Long of Blandinsville and James Ferguson of Roseville; three daughters, Mrs. Terry (Jean) Mershon, Judy Oliver and Mrs. Larry (Janet) Johnson, all of LaHarpe; one sister, Aleene Roberts of Chico, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Jerilyn, preceded him in death.
  A World War II Army Air Forces veteran, he served as an aerial gunner in England from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of Blandinsville American Legion.
  He worked for a railroad in his earlier years and later was a bartender. He also was a self-employed painter.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. The Rev. Lee Unger will officiate. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.

  Beardstown - William Philip Luken, 92, of Beardstown died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
  He was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Chicago, the son of Adolph Henry and Cora Beulah Mayer Luken. He married Virginia Kathryn Geiman in 1959 in Beardstown; she preceded him in death in 1990.
  Mr. Luken attended Lindblom Senior High School and Inglewood Evening Standard High School in the Chicago area. He was then trained by RCA Photophone Co. as a sound technician and traveled as a motion picture machine operator until 1941. He later worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Joliet as a precision gauge inspector in hydraulics, retiring in 1975 after 23 years of service.
  He served the U.S. Auxiliary Military Police in World War II until 1943 and was a member of First Christian Church in Joliet and the American Legion.
  There are no survivors.
  Graveside services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Bader Cemetery.

  Beardstown - William Philip Luken, 92, of Beardstown died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Heritage Manor South.
  Born Sept. 13, 1909, in Chicago to Adolph Henry and Cora Beulah Mayer Luken, he married Virginia Olive Kathryn Geiman on July 8, 1959, in Beardstown. She died Nov. 24, 1990.
  He was trained as a sound technician by RCA Photophone Co. and traveled as a motion picture operator until 1941. He later worked as a precision gauge inspector in hydraulics at Caterpillar Inc. in Joliet for 23 years, retiring May 30, 1975.
  During World War II, he served in the auxiliary military police and was discharged on March 26, 1943. He was a member of the American Legion.
  He was a member of First Christian Church in Joliet.
  Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bader Cemetery near Bader. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home.

  Born Jan. 10, 1914, in Beardstown to George and Rosa Bunfill Lisenbee, she married Ernest Andrew Lung on Sept. 15, 1934. He died Dec. 25, 1976.
  Surviving are two sons, Carl LeRoy of McAllen, Texas, and K. Larry of Beardstown; two daughters, Mrs. David (Gladys) Walker of Cuba and Mrs. Al (Pauline) Hagaman of Beardstown; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Irva) Stambaugh of Beardstown and Mrs. Danny (Alma) Stambaugh of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
  She worked in the dietary department at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.
  She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Camden.

  Born July 8, 1913, in Astoria to DeLoss and Minnie J. Farwell Markley, he married Sarah Elzada Baumgartner on Feb. 17, 1934, in Astoria. She survives.
  Also surviving are three daughters, Carol Welker and Carolyn Bollinger, both of Canton, and Sara Webb of Loveland, Colo.; one son, Robert of Pekin; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wilbert of Lewistown.
  He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one sister.
  An implement mechanic, he worked for Wright Equipment in Farmington. He last worked as a parts man at the Vo-Tech Center at Spoon River College. He also farmed.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Curt Foss will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Astoria.

  Born Dec. 5, 1925, in Deerfield Township, Fulton County, to Arthur ''Bud'' and Ethel Cooper Markley, he married Melba Redfern on July 18, 1946, in Bushnell. She survives.
  Also surviving are three sons, Dan (and Patricia) and John (and Debbie), both of Cuba, and James (and Paula) of Smithfield; six daughters, Mrs. Russell (Ethel) Mosher of Cuba, Mrs. Jerald (Pamela) Hedden of Ellisville, Mrs. James (Sharon) Trone Jr. of Smithfield, Mrs. Daryl (Roberta) Sarff of Havana, Brenda Beatty of Avon and Judith English of Marietta; two brothers, Lorendean (and Mary) of Creve Coeur and Gordon (and Mary Jane) of Peoria Heights; 23 grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren.
  Two grandchildren and one sister preceded him in death.
  An Army veteran, he was a member of Russell Smith American Legion Post.
  A member of United Auto Workers Local 974, he worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 26 years, last working as a clerk at the Mossville plant. He also farmed in Deerfield Township most of his life.
  He formerly attended Wiley Lutheran Church in rural Ellisville.
  Cremation will be accorded. There will be no services or visitation. Private family graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Fiatt Cemetery. The Rev. Layton Malone will officiate. Graveside military rites will be conducted by his American Legion post. Henry Memorial Home in Cuba is in charge of arrangements.
  Memorials may be made to his American Legion post or to Cass-Putman Rescue Squad.

  She married Dayle D. Markley on Feb. 17, 1934, in Astoria. He died Dec. 30,1998.
  She is survived by three daughters, Carol L. Welker of Canton, Mrs. Gene (Carolyn) Bollinger of Canton and Mrs Bill (Sara) Webb of Loveland, Colo; one son, Robert (wife, Connie) Markley of Pekin; four sisters, Opal Milleson of Winter Garden, Fla., Norene Derry of Peoria, Mrs. Robert (Emily) Curless of Astoria and Wilma Weber of Canton; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
  She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Canton, taught Sunday School for many years, was Sunday School secretary and served on the Christian Education Board for many years. She was a homemaker.
  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with the Rev. Curtis Foss officiating. Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Spoon River Hospice or to her church.

  Born Sept. 22, 1907, in Cuba, Ill., to John B. and Alta Bollinger Marquis, he married Ruth E. Leonard on Jan. 11, 1927, in Lewistown. She died Aug. 14, 1987. One sister and two brothers also preceded him in death.
  Surviving are two sons, Robert Lee Marquis and Larry Russell Marquis, both of Rushville; two daughters, Mary Ellen Beatty of Cuba and Joann Stone of Queen Creek, Ariz.; one sister, Juanita McBrearity of Bradenton, Fla.; one stepsister, Kathryn Powell of Ray; one half sister, Irene O'Brien of Sherrard; one half brother, Donald Marquis of Rock Island; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
  He was a coal miner, farmer and carpenter, retiring in 1969. He was a member of East Union Baptist Church in Schuyler County.
  Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Worthington Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Cooper will officiate. There will be no formal visitation, but calling hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Goodhope Cemetery, northeast of Rushville.

  Surviving are two sons, John R. of Peoria and William D. of Apple Valley, Calif.; one daughter, Carol A. Ecker of Anaheim, Calif.; and two sisters, Madelyn Brown of Quartzsite, Ariz., and Emma Castelluccio of Toms River, N.J. A life member of the Peoria Motorcycle Club, he was a mechanic for Walters Brother Harley Davidson for 25 years, retiring in 1983. Verna Martin Dies At The Age Of 102
  ROSEVILLE - Verna E. Martin, 102, a resident of the Roseville area since 1918, died at 2:27 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1991, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville.
  Born July 28, 1889, in Schuyler County to William E. and Nancy Jane Tyree Phelps, she married Harry Raymond Martin on Jan. 15, 1910, in Bowen. He died July 18, 1966. Five brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
  Surviving are one son, Eugene E. of Galesburg; one daughter, Wilma R. Harden of Peoria; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
  She was a member of Roseville Christian Church and was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
  Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, the Rev. Tom Mehaffy officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery in Good Hope.

  GALESBURG - Max E. Mayfield, 76, of 943 N. West St. died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 1996, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
  Born June 26, 1919, in Brown County to Bert L. and Emma Arbilla Mayfield, he married Helen Marie Eskew on Sept. 5, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.
  Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Judith) Sides of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Don (Dianna) Sours of Peoria; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Max David, in 1981. He farmed in the Timewell area for 50 years.
  He was a member of Lee Presbyterian Church in Fargo, where he taught Sunday school for many years. He moved to Galesburg in 1988, where he was a member of East Main Congregational United Church of Christ.
  Private family graveside services will be held at Mound Cemetery in Timewell at a later date. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

  Surviving are one daughter, Linda Bybee of St. David; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
  She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
  Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. The Rev. Delmar Smith will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home.

  Born March 24, 1906, in Fulton County to Nathaniel S. and Margaret Maye France Bollinger, she married Virgil "Red" McCormick on Sept. 20, 1924, in Virginia, Ill. He died Dec. 5, 1985. One daughter and one brother also preceded her in death.
  Surviving are one son, Phillip "Bud" of Astoria; one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Marilyn) Walton of Bryant; one brother, Harold Bollinger of Vermont, Ill.; one sister, Louise Stewart of Trivoli; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
  She owned and operated a restaurant in Astoria and later worked for West Grocery Store in Astoria.
  She was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren and Pythian Sisters Lodge.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at her church. The Rev. Ron Burtz will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

  ASTORIA - Phillip E. "Bud" McCormick, age 76, of 114 E. Broadway, Astoria, Ill., passed away at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Ill.
  He was born on Nov. 10, 1929, in Astoria, a son of Virgil "Red" and Nelda (Bollinger) McCormick. He married Virginia Brockley on Feb. 12, 1949, in Canton. She survives.
  Also surviving are three sons, Rick of Springfield, Ill., Scott and Chris (and Roberta), both of Astoria; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Marilyn Walton of Macomb, Ill. He was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Conner.
  Bud was a lifelong farmer. He also worked for McCormick Stockyard and Bucher Fence Builders, both of Astoria. He was a seed dealer for Super Crost Seed Company. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Astoria United Methodist Church. In the early 1950s, he belonged to the KP Lodge of Astoria. He was a member of the Lamoine Saddle Club.
  Services will be Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Pastor Larry Reinke will officiate.
  Memorials can be made to his church or Culbertson Memorial Hospital.
  Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery of Astoria.

  Born July 1, 1930, in Galesburg to Harley O. and Virginia Kellar King, she married Elmer Lee Voorhees in 1950. She married David Lyell in 1969, in Union City, Tenn. She married John McCulloch on June 17, 1993, in Knoxville. He survives.
  Also surviving are her mother of Gilson; four daughters, Angela Parke, Mrs. Terry (Patricia) Wilson and Mrs. David (Sharon) Kummer, all of Gilson, and Mrs. James (Dana) Lamb of Galesburg; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
  She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
  Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville. The Rev. Harold E. Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in McCallister Cemetery in rural Gilson.

  She was born July 22, 1914, in Schuyler County to Brice and Gertrude Coakley Harry. She married Irwin McGaughey Feb. 4, 1934, in Macomb. He survives.
  Also surviving are two sisters, Freda Barrett of Colchester and Buna Elam of Peoria; one daughter, Cindy (Jim) Moon of Macomb; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
  She was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Harry; one sister, Reva-Belle Harry; two sons, Randall and Robert; and one daughter, Sandra Ellis.
  Mrs. McGaughey was employed by Montgomery Ward’s Service Department until the store’s closing, and was a member of the First Christian Church of Macomb.
  Services were Wednesday, March 1, at the First Christian Church and burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by one sister.
  He was a truck driver for L.L.R. Trucking in Indianapolis.
  He was a member of Calvary Christian Church in Edinburgh, Ind.

  Alma (King) Justus McManus, 85, of 2146 N. Highway 96, Nauvoo, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999, at Keokuk Area Hospital.
  She was born Jan. 4, 1914, in Colchester to Moses and Effie Butterfield King. She married Arthur Justus in February 1937. She married Niel McManus in July 1965. He died in 1981.
  She is survived by her daughters, Janet George of Keokuk, Iowa and Judy O’Chel of Mobile, Ala.; a step-son, Craig McManus of Davenport, Iowa; a step-daughter, Carol Davis of Long Grove, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
  Mrs. McManus graduated from Western Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb in 1936. She had lived most of her life in the Colchester, Macomb and Nauvoo areas. She taught school at Macomb Senior High from 1948 until 1962 and was also the school librarian. She was a member of the Illinois Teachers Association.
  Clugston-Tibbits Funeral Home of Macomb was in charge of arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Rev. Lori Harvey officiated at graveside services held Monday at Oakwood Cemetery.

  He was a World War II Army veteran.
  He was a coal miner for 18 years. He also operated McWhorter Saw Mill, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Camden United Methodist Church in Camden.

  He was born May 3, 1921, in Canton, the son of Perry Brian and Lyda Henderson McWhorter. He married Clova O. Sorrells in 1941 in Palmyra, Mo.; she preceded him in death in 1996. A son, Larry, also preceded him in death.
  Mr. McWhorter was a coal miner for 18 years and operated McWhorter Saw Mill, retiring in 1986. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a former member of Camden United Methodist Church.

  Joe V. Mercer of Oklahoma City, Okla., a native of Macomb, died July 12, 1999, in a nursing home at Oklahoma City.
  He was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Macomb, to G. Robert and Mae (Van Antwerp) Mercer.
  Survivors include brothers John of Oklahoma City and Bill of Arlington Heights; sister Gladys Lucas of Macomb; numerous nephews and nieces.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; three sisters.
  Mr. Mercer attended Macomb schools. He was a professional musician, having traveled many years with dance bands as a piano player.
  He served in the South Pacific during World War II, with the Army. He later attended Houston (Texas) University and worked for FAA as an electrical engineer.
  Cremation rites have been accorded.
  Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 21 in the Church of God Abrahamic Faith, on the corner of Clay and Chase streets at Macomb, with the Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Burial of ashes in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens will follow the services.

  Born Sept. 14, 1902, in Schuyler County to David Wesley and Florence Viola Phillips Shaver, she married Lewis C. Milby on March 28, 1925, in Rushville. He died in 1946.
  She also was preceded in death by one son, Morris Wesley Milby, and three grandchildren.
  Surviving are three sons, Merle Emery of Vermont, Ill., Harold Eugene of Beardstown and Leslie Leroy of Macomb; six daughters, Faye Virginia Avery of Rushville, Mary Christine Blair of Ashland, Florence May Edwards of Springfield, Marjorie Rosalea Fahnders and Joyce Darlene Goodwin, both of Pekin, and Ramona Eloise Henderson of Macomb; 23 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
  She was a resident of Schuyler County until she moved to Macomb in 1964. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Macomb and in her younger years taught elementary school.

  ABINGDON - Vivian F. Ruhl Millard, 83, of 307 W. Bernard St., died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at her residence.
  Born July 6, 1917, in Schuyler County to John and Amy Dugger Sorrells, she married Elmer C. Ruhl on Feb. 15, 1938, in Palmyra, Mo. He died Dec. 7, 1968. She married George F. Millard on Sept. 1, 1973, in Fiatt. He died Sept. 15, 2000.
  She also was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Sally Ruhl, five brothers and two sisters.
  Surviving are one son, Doug (and Mary Jo) Ruhl of rural Abingdon; one sister, Lena Larson of rural Berwick; five grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.
  She had worked for Abingdon Nursing Home and later was a janitor at Briggs Manufacturing Co. in Abingdon.
  Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Abingdon Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Myers will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.

  Born Aug. 14, 1913, in Newark, Mo., to Fred and Bessie Plunkett Voorhees, she married James Noble Mitchell on April 11, 1937, in Shelbyville, Mo. He survives.
  Also surviving are one son, James F. of Canton; two daughters, Marilyn Hinderliter of Canton and Marjorie Ball of Green Valley; one sister, Freeda Luker of LaBelle, Mo.; seven grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. One son, Noble, preceded her in death.
  She taught in the Missouri schools for seven years. She attended Monterey United Methodist Church in rural Canton.
  Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home. The Rev. Jim Jenkins will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery in rural Banner.

  She was a registered nurse at Elgin State Hospital and was chairwoman of the Schuyler County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was a Girl Scout leader.

  Lewis S. "Pete" Moore 83 of 250 S. Main St. Apt. 104 died at 2:12 pm Sunday March 19, 2006 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born July 12, 1922 in Rushville, IL to Frank and Daisy (Phillips) Moore. He married Pauline L. Walker on February 22, 1947 in Rushville, IL. She survives.
  Survivors include two sons Michael Hicks of Austin, TX, Dennis Moore of Oakville, WA, one daughter Paula Simmons of Cuba, one sister Violet Hosford of Salinas, CA., seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
  He was a WWII Army Airforce veteran. He worked for the United Mine Workers in the Buckheart and Solar Mines for 50 years retiring in July 1984. He was an assistant boyscout leader, member of the bowling league, and past treasurer of the United Mine workers local 7110.

  Teddy L. (Ted) Moose, 64, Astoria, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Veterans Administration Hospital, Danville.
  He was born Dec. 3, 1940 in Kerton Township, Fulton Co., the son of Glenn D. and Mildred B. (Baldry) Moose.
  He is survived by three brothers, John (Linda) Moose, Astoria, Gary (Judy) Moose, Urbana, Ohio, James (Janet) Moose, Colona, and several nieces and nephews.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Don, David, and Carl.
  He was a veteran of the Army-PFC E-3 (P) and served with the 565th Transportation Co. during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge. He was a lifelong farmer, also worked at Peabody Coal Co. and was the current Woodland Township Road Commissioner.
  Funeral Services will be held Saturday April 23, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria with Robert Spencer officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday April 22 at the Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery, Astoria, with full military honors conducted by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.

  She was born June 19, 1917, in Chandlerville, the daughter of Howard and Nora (Logue) Wilkey. She married Wilson T. Morgan April 1, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1994.
  She is survived by two sons, Dan (Pat) Morgan, Macomb and David (Lucille) Morgan, Rushville; two granddaughters, Lori and Kathy Morgan; and two step granddaughters, JoAnn (Dennis) Billingsley and Marsha (Kerry) Azbell.
  In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Harold Wilkey; and one sister, Deane Corbat.
  She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Burlington, Iowa, then she and her husband owned Morgan Grocery in Brooklyn from 1945 to 1969. She later worked in the Food Services Department at Western Illinois University. She was a member of the Brooklyn United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
  Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at the Brooklyn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dixie Croxton officiating.
  Burial was at the Brooklyn Cemetery.

  Born Nov. 10, 1912, in Brooklyn Township, Schuyler County, to Fredrick and Moneta Busby Morgan, he married Helen Chapman, who died in 1948. He later married Reba Welty in July 1960 in Macomb. She survives.
  Also surviving are four sons, Edward E. of Rushville, James F. of Carpentersville, John M. of Garden Grove, Calif., and Roswell A. of LaGrange, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Walter (Maxine) Lang of Warrensville Heights, Ohio; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Morgan.
  He was a self-employed painter in the Rushville area before retiring.
  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rushville and its Booster Sunday School Class.

  Ellis H. Mummert, 85, of 29 E. Hickory St., Canton, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, in Graham Hospital, after an illness of several months.
  An area resident since 1917, Mr. Mummert was employed by International Harvester Co., retiring May 28, 1951.  Born in Woodland Township, Sept. 10, 1880, he was a son of George and Elizabeth (Bricker) Mummert.  On Nov. 17, 1911, he was married at Havana to Helen Carter, who survives.
  Surviving are six children, Mrs. Margaret Smith and Russell Mummert, both of Canton; Mrs. Melba Barkley and Mrs. Barbara DeFord, both of Peoria; Mrs. Wilmadene McLaren, Knoxville, and George Mummer, Indianapolis, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
  Preceding him in death were a son, Guy, two brothers and four sisters.

Helen Mummert Dies of Burns From Trash Fire
  Mrs. Helen Mummert, 79, of 29 E. Hickory St., Canton, died at 3:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24, in Graham Hospital, following burns received Saturday, Nov. 20.
  Mrs. Mummert suffered burns over about 80 per cent of her body when her clothing ignited as she was burning waste paper in her yard.  Her death was ruled “accidentally sustained by burns” by a coroner’s jury at an inquest Friday evening.
  Mrs. Mummert had resided in Canton community since 1917.  She was born in Pleasant Township, Oct. 19, 1886, a daughter of Milton and Rachel (Smith) Carter.  On Oct. 17, 1911, she was married at Havana to Ellis H. Mummer, who died Sept. 29, 1965.
  Six children surviving are Mrs. Margaret Smith and Russell Mummert, both of Canton; Mrs. Melba Barkley and Mrs. Barbara DeFord, both of Peoria; Mrs. Wilmadene McLaren, Mossville, and George Mummert, Indianapolis, Ind.
  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Mildred McMullen, East Moline.
  A son, Guy, two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
  Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Murphy Memorial Home in Canton with Rev. Dale Wellbaum officiating.  Burial was in Greenwood cemetery in Canton.

  He was born Oct. 25, 1929, in Rushville, the son of George Ben and Eleanor LaMaster Murfin. He married Joan Bollinger in 1949 in Rushville. He later married Eleanor Olson in 1990.
  Mr. Murfin retired from J.C. Penney Co. Inc. in 1990 after 41 years.
  Survivors: wife, Eleanor; two sons, Jack and Martin Murfin, both of Dallas; two daughters, Judy Harlan of Kansas City, Kan., and Janet Gilbert of St. Louis; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wilson Murfin of Rushville and Lyle Murfin of Danville.
  Remains have been cremated.

  Chatham - Corey Allen Nail, 19, of Chatham died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at St. John's Hospital.
  He was born July 25, 1979, in Springfield, the son of Elvis and Pamela Aten Nail Jr.
  Mr. Nail was a Chatham resident most of his life. He was a 1998 graduate of Glenwood High School, where he played football, was an all-conference player and served as co-captain his senior year. He was currently attending Lincoln Land Community College.
  Survivors: father, Elvis Nail of Florida; mother and stepfather, Pamela and Philip Cravens of Chatham; grandmother, Bessie Nail of Riverton; a brother, Ryan Nail; a sister, Keelie Cravens of Chatham; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
  Arrangements are pending at Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel.

  Clella Rose Nelson, 62, Macomb, formerly of Rushville, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, March 13, 2005, at the McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.
  She was born Saturday, May 2, 1942 in Rushville, the daughter of the late Lyle C. and Lucille (Blurton) Nelson.
  She is survived by two brothers, Vernon Nelson and wife Carolyn, Springfield; Charles "Chuck" Nelson, Canton; one niece, Natalie Ruth Nelson and one nephew, Bryan Nathaniel Nelson, both of Springfield; one uncle, Carl (Betty) Nelson, San Rafael, Calif.; two aunts, Alice Cokenour, Alexandria, Va., and Margaret Blurton, Bailey, Mich.
  She was a client at Bridgeway, Macomb. 
  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at the Worthington Funeral Home, Rushville with the Rev. Paul Arnold officiating. Internment was in the Rushville City Cemetery.
