Culver-Maddox
The Henry Republican January 4, 1883
(From the Toulon Sentinel)
Married at 12 pm, Dec., 27, at the residence of M. Shallenberger, Lucian Culver to Miss Mary Maddox, both of Henry, Illinois, Rev. Walters of Wyoming officiating. The bride is a daughter of Samuel Maddox, once a resident of Toulon, later of Galva and now a seeker after health in the wilds of Colorado. The wife and mother passed to her rest years ago, leaving to his fatherly care a son and two daughters. But his enforced absence broke up the home, so his daughter took her marriage vows into the house of a friend as before stated. Her lovely sister graced the occasion by her presence, also her uncle, Matthews Maddox of Galva, with his daughters, Mrs. Kirby and Mrs. Thompson. With the groom came his brother and wife, and Mr. Walters and daughter Mary. These mingling with friends of the Shallenberger family made a merry company. After the ceremony and congratulations were duly disposed of lunch was served and all seemed to enjoy the visit together until the passing hour warned them that it was near "train time" when tearful adieux were spoken and they went their several ways, the best wishes of all following the happy couple, who returned to Henry by way of Peoria. They will go to housekeeping although Mrs. Culver will probably fulfill the contract made by Miss Maddox to teach in high school of that place to the end of the spring term. Mr. Culver is a prominent business man of Henry where his parents came as pioneers in 1836. After the arrival of the bride and groom they were serenaded at their rooms at the residence of Mr. H. Vogelsang, by the Henry Cornet band, of which formerly Mr. Culver was a valued member. On Thursday an enfare was held at Mr. Culver's mother's, which was enjoyable in every respect.
