29 June 1876

Stark County has had its county convention and has placed its county ticket in the field. The following are the nominations: Circuit Clerk, J. M. Brown of Toulon; States Attorney, B. F. Thompson of Bradford; Sheriff, S. M. Adams of Toulon; Coroner, Wilson Trickle. Representatives to legislature: J. D. Hurd. Congressional delegation are in favor of Hon. Julius R. Starr of Peoria.

Bradford Items from the Correspondent of the Post:

  • Captain J. Doyle lost his youngest child Brace in Colorado which is a severeaffliction to them.
  • Herbert Foster was thrown from a horse on Monday week and considerably injured.
  • The city hotel has been leased to Captain Armstrong of Wyoming. Mr. Schofield retires.
  • A. J. Storm and J. E. Noyes are shipping cattle and hogs to Chicago. They are good judges of livestock and seem to be doing a good business.

  • Mrs. Root paid a week-end visit to her mother in Sparland, returning Sunday with her family.
  • Mrs. Grant Burdick attended the O. E. S. school of instruction at Peoria Friday and Saturday.
  • Ot Hurd had the misfortune to lose one of his work horses last week by it falling in a well near his barn.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brimmer are the parents of an eight-pound boy who arrived at their home last Tuesday morning.
  • The roads are about the worst they have been this winter. O. W. Hurd made a trip to Stark and back in his car Tuesday.
  • The men at Speer have been busy spreading cinders around the depot and other places about town where needed.
  • Columbia school had a vacation Thursday and Friday of last week. Miss Sweetland and Helen Even spent theirs at Wyoming.
  • Mr. and Mrs. O. W. McCraw spent Sunday at Peoria, at the home of their daughter Edith who accompanied them home for a few days.
  • Miss Violet Burnett went to assist her brother John Bernett and wife, who will move Wednesday, exchanging places with Hugh King, who has been living upon the old Crawford farm.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stowell returned home Saturday evening after spending the week in Peoria and attending the auto show.
  • Mrs. Ed Phillips has been very ill with the mumps and little Jane also is getting better. Little Lyle Merril took sick Monday with tonsillitis. Wednesday Ed Phillips took sick with tonsillitis since last Friday but has them.
