HENRY SCHRADERMEYER

Henry Schradermeyer of Florence village, Stephenson county, Illinois, is the son of Christian and Amelia (Heinrichsmeier) Schradermeyer, both of Lippedetmold, Germany, who emigrated to America in the year 1847, coming direct from New York City to Milwaukee, Wis., and thence by ox team to Rock Run township, where they made their home until 1864, engaged in farming. They then moved to Shannon, Carroll county, for two years, and finally settled on a farm in Florence, Stephenson county, where they remained until death. Mr. Schradermeyer died August 3, 1878, and Mrs. Schradermeyer passed away on Good Friday, April 16, 1897.
Their family consisted of seven children: Christ., died in infancy; Louisa, widow of Fred Kampmeier resides in Carroll county, on the old homestead; Wilhelmina, widow of Henry Brockmeier, lives in Ogle county, Illinois, Emma, died young; Henry, subject of sketch; Amelia, wife of Simon Petermeier, a farmer, residing in Silver Creek township; Mary, wife of Rev. J. J. Lintner, Minister of the Evangelical church at Oswego, Illinois. They were all educated in the common schools.
Henry Schradermeyer, subject of this sketch, was born in Rock Run township, Stephenson county, Illinois, August 30, 1851. After completing his education he commenced farming in his native place, when he remained until 1890, when he removed to the village of Florence and took charge as general manager of the Mann & Thompson Lumber & Coal Co., still retaining, and working his farm of 161 acres in the township. He also owns valuable property in the village.
April 4, 1874, he was married to Magdalena VanDeese, who was born in Germany. Her father, William VanDeese, a farmer of Ogle county, and her mother are both deceased.
Mr. and Mrs. Schradermeyer have adopted two children; Cena, born January 3, 1869, is wife of Benjamin Leopold, and lives on her foster father's farm; they have one child Dorothy, born February 25, 1896. Henry, born October 14, 1876, is still at home.
Mr. Schradermeyer is well known throughout the county as an honest, upright man, and has held numerous offices. He is now supervisor of his township, which office he has held for two terms of two years each; was Justice of the Peace two terms; School Director twelve years; Commissioner of Highways one term; served as Constable some time, and has held all other township offices. He is a member of Modern Woodmen of Florence, and of the Royal Neighbors of Bolton, Ill.
Mr. Schradermeyer and his estimable wife are members of the Evangelical church of Florence, for which he has been trustee and S.S. Superintendent for a number of years, and an active, earnest worker. Mr. Schradermeyer has always been a republican.
