Freeport Plant

In 1942, Fairbanks, Morse & Co. leased from the United States Government (and subsequently purchased) a plant in Freeport, Illinois which had previously been the Stover Manufacturing Company. The immediate use of this plant was to supplement production of opposed-piston diesel engines manufactured at nearby Beloit, Wisconsin, and under great demand by the military services. Since the war, the Freeport plant has been extensively retooled to specialize in the manufacture of electrical equipment. Here is built the axial air gap motor, and the complete Fairbanks-Morse line of conventional motors in the smaller ratings. Here is located the Company's largest research facility for development engineering on new electrical machinery. "Fairbanks-Morse A Name Worth Remembering" undated booklet, about 1950?
