Founder of Freeport
In 1827 Baker claimed the land and in 1835 erected the first cabin-home and later a public house within Freeport Township area. Mrs. Baker suggested the town Freeport because of Tuttys generosity. Originally buried in an IIndian Cemetery, the remains of Wm. & Phoebe were moved to this site in the late 1880's. This stone erected in June 1980 by the citizens of Freeport.
