In 1950, Mrs. Christine Salter began having prayer meetings in her home. In 1951, a building was rented at 220 South Sheridan Avenue and services were held there. The Reverend Smith Davis was pastor. Later he left for college and was succeeded by the Reverend Robert Green.
In February 1954, with the aid of the Illinois State Ministerial Assembly of the Church of God, a building at 103 North Adelbert Avenue was purchased, and a few months later the congregation of the Church of God began using this building for worship services.
While at the present time the church has no permanent pastor, good progress is being made under volunteer leadership and supply pastors. Preaching services, Sunday school and Youth Fellowship meetings are held each Sunday.
