
Anouncement is made of the marriage of Mark Christine, USNR., son of Ralph Christine,1315 South Walnut avenue, Freeport, to Miss Emma Ruth Kendall, of Maryville, Mo., which took place Tuesday morning April 17, at 9 o'clock in the Star of the Sea chapel, at the U. S. Naval training and distribution center, Shoemaker, Calif., Commander Collins officiating at double ring ceremony. The altar was decorated with pink roses. The groom was graduated from Aquin high school, attended Loras college at Dubuque, before being sent to State Teachers college in Maryville as a member of V-12 unit there. He received further training at Great Lakes and in Bainbridge, Md., where he received his rating as specialist, A 3/c. He is now on his way overseas. His bride will remain on the coast until her husband's return. She has visited in Freeport on several occasions.

The marriage of Robert Paul Swingley, AS/S-V-12, son of Dr. and Mrs. Clarence W. Swingley, South Maple avenue, and Miss Edythe Temple, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin Temple in Prophetstown, Ill., was solemnized Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock in First Methodist church in Dixon, the minister, Rev. Mr. Biewfield officiating. An organ recital was given by the bridegoom's aunt, Mrs. Mentor Wheat of this city. Miss Lois France cousin of the bride, was soloist. The bride entered the church in a gown of white slipper satin, fashioned on princess lines, with sweetheart neck and long train. Her fingertip veil was held with a Julie cap and wore a single strand of pearls and carried an arm bouquet of red roses and white snapdragons. Miss Helen Shaver, of Dixon, wearing an aquamarine net gown and carrying pink and white carnations, was bridesmaid and Dr. Raymond Patterson, of Monroe, Wis. a classmate of the groom's at Texas A. & M. was best man. Ushers were Harold France, Dixon and Dr. Wilford Luries, of Forreston. The bride attended Tampico high school and Pasadena Junior college and was graduated in 1944 from the school of nursing in the Dixon hospital. The bridegroom was graduated from the Freeport high school and later from Texas A. & M. and is a medical student under V-12 in Chicago. He and his bride will reside in Chicago. Dr. and Mrs. CLarence W. Swingley, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Burrell and Mr. and Mrs. Mentor Wheat of Freeport attended the wedding.

A very sad case of physical suffering is that of Mr. Jacob Winters, of this town. He was stricken down in October last by a paralytic stroke, and from that time to the present, has had no use of his body, and been obliged to keep his bed, all the time enduring the severest of pain. For several days at a time he has been so bad that he could not swallow or take food of any kind. Father Winters is nearly eighty years of age, and for over twenty-five years has been a resident of Florence.
Mrs. Wm. R. Van Brocklin, a former resident of this town, but now of Waterloo, Iowa, is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Bolton, who has been dangerously ill for the past few weeks.
A serious accident happened to Clinton Bucher, son of Mr. O. P. Bucher, who had the misfortune of having his shoulder broken. He was attended by Dr. Stoskopf, and is doing well.
Henry Aspinwall has tendered his resignation to the Board of Town Auditors as Commissioner of Highways. No successor has as yet been appointed.
The Sunday-School at Yellow Creek was organized last Sunday by the election of officers. The school will open every Sunday morning at half past nine o'clock. All are earnestly requested to come and join, and assist in getting the school again in active operation.

Mr. J. Q. Adams, of Florence, accompanied by his wife and mother-in-law, Mrs. Conrad Van Brocklin, left Tuesday night for the Eastern States to make a visit to his parents and other relatives and friends. Mr. Adams has lived in Stephenson county twenty-eight years, and it is twenty one years since he last saw his parents. They live in Vermont. He will be absent about four weeks.

Mrs. William Otto and Carol Jean spent Sunday in Milwaukee Wisc. with Mrs. Otto's daughter Mrs. J.B. Crane.
Louis Otto celebrated his 84th birthday today and was remembered with a card shower from his relatives and friends.
Mrs. Mary Smith and Bonnie Kay spent Friday at the Armogast home.
Rev. and Mrs. W.G. LaConte and family were visitors in Florence on Monday. He was the former pastor of the Florence Evangelical church.
Elmer Armogast and daughter Judith Ann were visitors at the home of Roy Armogast Tuesday evening.
Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Beuscher called at the home of Rev. H.D. Gable Monday afternoon.
