At its meeting January 12, the Henney Welfare Club installed new officers. William C. Woods was
elected President; Sam Bolender, Vice-President; and H. Reid Horner Secretary-Treasurer. The past year was a very
successful one for the association. A corn game furnished entertainment after the meeting, Friday night, January
19th.

We are glad to have Blondy Ditzler, our paint foreman, and Frank Carmody, body builder, with us again. Both were
victims of pneumonia but are now in fine shape.

George Fitchner, body equipment department, says he has been “shooting the duck” when he ice skates. Better be
careful George; duck shooting is out of season.

Bill Fahey, our putty glazer, has rented a garage and is building his own trailer. This cold weather has hampered
operations lately. Bill says he’ll be back at it again tho, when April rolls around.

All the out of town workmen were absent Monday, January 15th, because of the snowdrifts. Some of them straggled
in along about 4 P. M., and decided to stay in town so they’d be on hand for work Tuesday morning. All were in
town Tuesday.

Coonie Bittner got to worrying about heating in the plant, just ahead of the big snow, so he came down Sunday night
and fired up the boilers himself.

The Welfare Association’s Christmas Party made a big hit with everyone who attended. The committee deserves a lot
of credit for the way they planned for and handled the big crowd -- even if the Santa Claus member did have to
go back for his pants -- or something’.

We were glad to see all the salesmen again -- during their annual convention. We think they did a mighty good job
selling those 1200 cars last year. We hope they feel the same way about our getting them built before the end of
year.

A New Display Room Opened In Chicago
The first of the year, a new Henney display room was opened at 2900 South Michigan Avenue, in Chicago. These new
and more attractive quarters are rearer the center of Chicago, more handy for visiting funeral directors. It is
planned to maintain a display of representative Henney-Packard models at all time so that funeral directors may
see and examine them conveniently.
Giant Christmas Tree Attracts Attention
During the holidays, Freeport residents saw a Christmas tree, 25 feet high, atop the Henney factory building. Four
spot lights and 125 strings of light bulbs illuminated the tree, making a bright, cheery decoration in an area
which ordinarily is considered dark, when compared with brilliantly lighted thoroughfares. Amplifying units, such
as used in the Henney-Packard Singing Chapel, broadcase appropriate Christmas carols over the still night air.
Wm. “Ginger” Moiselle
Pres. Henney New England Co.
|
“Ginger” Moiselle was born in Dublin, Ireland. His mother and sisters still live there. Running away from home
at the age of 14 to go to sea, he became a seaman, remaining on sailing ships for several years. He worked himself
up to first mate of a ship, before he was persuaded to leave the sea.
He settled in the United States before the war. When war was declared, he enlisted in the United States army as
a private and was discharged as a Lieutenant-Colonel. He built his first railroad -- and made it run -- for the
army.
|
 |
He has been in the funeral transportation business ever since, and has sold hearses all over the United States.
Ginger first started to work for Henney Motor Company in the Fall of 1930. He was assigned to the New England territory
in June, 1931 and helped organize Henney New England Company shortly thereafter.
Author of a book on the evolution of funeral transportation, Ginger brings to funeral directors a wealth of valuable
information concerning that part of funeral services which centers around the funeral car.
Out in the territory calling on funeral directors almost every day, Ginger can be reached through Henney New England
Company headquarters at 1265 Boylston Street, Boston (Phone Kenmore 1811) or 123 West 64th Street, New York City,
(Phone Trafalgar 4-1677).
