There was some excitement in Ed Delhauer’s store at Freeport (Stephenson county) a few days ago. Mr. Delhauer is a son-in-law of Mrs. I. Antill. The Delhauer dog – a Scotch collie, got mixed up with a bull dog in the store and the fight was terrific. The two animals were both full of spirit and each refused to let go his hold. Water was thrown upon the dogs, but this had no effect. A police officer arrived upon the scene and he was going to shoot both dogs, but as neither one of the dogs’ owners’ would consent so this the project was abandoned. The dogs were then beaten with clubs and finally separated. The collie dog is a great pet of the Delhauer family and when the battle was at its height, Mrs. Delhauer who was in the store at the time, was taken seriously ill with an attack of heart trouble. The condition of Mrs. Delhauer was such that it was necessary to call a physician and she is confined to her bed as a result of the shock. Mrs. I. Antill was also made ill by the fight.
