ALFRED EULER
, the three months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Euler, residing at 124 Blackhawk street, died suddenly about 4 o'clock this morning. Dr. E.A. Diestlemeter conducted an inquest at 11 o'clock this morning and the corner's jury found the child came to his death by choking, possibly caused by the administration of patent cough syrup given late last evening to relieve coughing. The baby had been ill for several weeks, but appeared no worse last evening than at any time previous. Yesterday the father purchased a bottle of cough syrup and last night the child was given a small dose, about two or three drops, the mother testified this morning. Dr. Harlan, who was called early in the morning stated that when he arrived the child was dead. An examination showed it had vomited and as the medicine which had been given contained a drug which would cause vomiting, he believed the syrup was indirectly the cause of the little one's death. The parents are prostrated with grief. The father left the house early in the morning to go to work, and it was not till after he left that his wife discovered the child was dear. She called the neighbors and afterwards the father was notified. The baby would have been three months old had it lived until next Sunday. [Freeport Journal Standard, Tues. 27 Feb 1917]
