ELIZABETH (KAUFMAN) FINK
- On Wednesday morning at the home of her son, Charles, in Cedarville, Mrs. Elizabeth Fink passed away. About a month ago she was in this place visiting her daughter, Mrs. E.T. Moore, and was apparently in good health. She was loved and respected by all who knew her, and her demise is felt by all. She was born in Lehigh county, Pa., and was aged 81 years. The deceased was the mother of ten children, three of whom are dead, seven children, 2 daughters and 5 sons are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother. Her husband died, about 26 years ago and since that time she has been living with her children. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon, the interment taking place at Cedarville. Rev. Rohland, of the Evangelical church of Freeport, officiated.

WILLARD B. FINK
- formerly of Freeport, died Monday, February 10, 1969 in Long Beach. Mr. Fink, who resided here for more than 35 years, was employed by the Freeport Post Office for many years. He was born June 15, 1894 in Cedarville. Surviving are his widow, Neva; a son, Lowell of Cypress, Calif.; three daughters, Charlotte of Madera, Calif., Mrs. Ruth McAlpin of Long Beach, and Wilma of Thailand; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ralph Penticoff of Cedarville. A son preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Patterson-Snively Funeral Home in Long Beach. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cypress.

EMMA FOGEL
of Ridott, passed away this morning at 1:30 at a local hospital, following an illness of twelve weeks. (The date was April 20, 1940.) Mrs. Fogel’s maiden name was Emma Wohlford and she was born in Oneco Township about sixty-four years ago. Her marriage to Joseph W. Fogel took place in 1893. She is survived by her husband, two sons, and one daughter, Harold Fogel of Bemidji, Minn., Mrs. Mary Hall of Rockford, and George Fogel of Freeport. There are eight grandchildren. A brother, Daniel Wohlford, and a sister, Miss Lydia C. Wohlford, reside in Freeport and another sister, Mrs. Ada Wagner, in McConnell. A daughter, Mrs. Ione Cooley, of Rockford, preceded her mother in death two years ago and another daughter, Bertha, in infancy. Mrs. Fogel was a member of the Christian Science Church. Funeral arrangements have been completed.

GEORGE W. FOGEL
, 97, of Freeport died Monday, June 26, 2006 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born March 13, 1909 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, he was the son of Joseph and Emma (Wohlford) Fogel. He married Jennie Hawes on November 23, 1929 in Freeport. She died November 21, 1999. George worked for Barber-Coleman in Rockford as a precision inspector for 17 years. His memberships included Scottish Rite Bodies, Tebala Shrine, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and Alcoholics Anonymous for 52 years, and he was known as “The Mayor” of Liberty Village.
He is survived by one daughter, Susie (Fred) Bess of Franklin, Tennessee; one son, George Jr. (Yvonne) Fogel of Carlinville; daughter-in-law Rose Fogel of Brookfield, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife and one son, Don.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum.

HARRY E. FOGEL
- 52, a lifelong resident of Stephenson County, died suddenly at his home, 636 East Pleasant Street, about 9 o’clock last night. (The date of death was May 30, 1940.) His death resulted from a heart affliction. Funeral services will be conducted at the Walker Mortuary, West Main Street at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Dr. C. A. Bloomquist, pastor of Embury Methodist Church, will conduct the services and interment will be made at Oakland Cemetery.
Mr. Fogel was born near Lena November 28, 1887. He was united in marriage to Bethel Pepperman May 29, 1915.
For a number of years he had been employed by the Henney Motor Company as a mechanic. He was a member of Evergreen Lodge of Masons and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Besides his wife, he leaves the following children: Wayne, Lyle, Paul, Alice, and Richard Fogel, all of Freeport. The following sisters and brothers also survive: Mrs. Harry Manning, Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Earl Wilcox, Rockford; Mrs. Roger Wallace, Chicago; Mrs. Harry Strohacker, Freeport; Homer Fogel, Elmhurst; Russell Fogel, Freeport. His mother, Alice Fogel, resides in Freeport.

WAYNE E. FOGEL
, 93, of Freeport, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Freeport Rehabilitation & Care Center.
Born Nov. 23, 1915, in Freeport he was the son of Harry and Bethel (Pepperman) Fogel. He married Caroline Haight October 17, 1936. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II.
His memberships included First Church Of The Open Bible where he was a past board member, past president, and substitute teacher for the church’s MOVE Men’s Group, Evergreen Masonic Lodge, Tebala Shrine, and AMVETS where he was a past commander.
Wayne worked at the Henney Motor Company for many years and then Micro Switch until his retirement. In retirement he was a cook the Open Bible Day Care and owned and operated The Sharp Shop in his home.
Wayne built his own home which he lived for over 65 years.
Surviving are his wife, Caroline of Freeport; one daughter, Sherrill (John) Bruning of Winnebago; one son, Wayne M. (Teresa) Fogel of Pearl City; one sister, Alice Pickett of DeKalb; one brother, Richard Fogel of DeKalb; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lyle and Paul; his infant daughter, Caroline; and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2 p.m. at Walker Mortuary with the Rev. Burliss Parker of First Church Of The Open Bible officiating. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Tuesday 12:30 p.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established.

ISAAC J. FOLGATE
, 1428 South Chicago Avenue , a resident of this community for over three-quarters of a century, passed away this morning about 7 o’clock, death coming while he slept. Mr. Folgate was born in Buckeye township November 2, 1855. he was the son of James and Mary Folgate and his boyhood was spent on a farm. He was married January 9, 1881 to Elizabeth Maye, who passed away January 6, 1926.
He is survived by three children, Mrs. Hugo C. Lukerman, Clarence M. Folgate, who with his wife resided with his father, and Mrs. Louis F, Reinhold, all residents of Freeport ; one grandchild, Mrs. W. L. Kroeger, of Iowa City , Iowa , and a brother, William G. Folgate of Ridott.
For many years, Mr. Folgate was employed by the F. A. Read Co. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Church . Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, at 2 o’clock at the Walker Mortuary. Rev. J. G. Eller, of Sterling , officiating. Interment will be made at Oakland Cemetery .

URIAH T. FOLGATE
, 78 a life-long resident of Stephenson county, died suddenly at his home, 522 North Van Buren avenue, about 8:30 o'clock last night. His passing resulted from a heart affection. Mr. Folgate had been in ill health for the past several weeks, but his condition had been serious for only a few days. Funeral services will be conducted from the family home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment will be made in Cedarville cemetery. Friends are requested to omit flowers. Friends may view the body at the Wagner funeral home, South Chicago avenue, until noon tomorrow. Uriah T. Folgate was born in Buckeye Township, Aug 16, 1857, the son of James and Mary Folgate. He was united in marriage to Emma Reager. Two children were born to this union, one of whom, Clayton, passed away several years ago. Mr. Folgate is survived by his widow and one son, Raymond L . Folgate, an employee of the State bank. He also leaves two brothers, Isaac and William Folgate, both of Freeport. A granddaughter, Mrs. CLyde Kaiser resides at Cedarville, while there is also a great grandson, Dale Kaiser. Mr. Folgate resided on a farm in Buckeye township for many years, later moving to Red Oak where he received a government appointment as a rural mail carrier. He continued at this work of a period of 18 years and on retiring in 1921 moved to Freeport where he had since resided. For two years he served as janitor of the city hall. He was a member of the Mystic Workers.

EDNA (ROTHSTEIN) FREEMAN
, 91, of Sarasota , Florida , former Freeport businesswoman, died Wednesday August 2, 2000. She was born September 7, 1908 in Rockford . She and her husband, Maurice Rothstein, owned and operated Rothstein’s Women’s Apparel in Freeport for many years, and moved to Sarasota in 1980. Her husband preceded her in death. She was a member of Temple Beth Shalom and Hadassah in Sarasota . She is survived by her husband, Jacob Freeman. Services were held at Beth Shalom Cemetery . Memorial donations may be made to Hadassah.

IDA FRENCH
, 83, former resident of Freeport, passed away about 12 o'clock last night in a Rockford hospital according to a message received this morning by her cousin, George M. fugate, 1573 West Lincoln Blvd. Miss French incurred a hip fracture in a fall several weeks ago and later suffered a stroke. She was born in Freeport Sept. 27, 1857, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah French, pioneer settlers in Freeport, who operated the old French hotel, which was located on the site of the present Licondo hotel during Civil war days.
Miss French was educated in the public schools of Freeport and graduated from Freeport high school. She resided in Freeport until moving to Rockford two years ago. Besides Mr. Fugate she is survived by several other cousins, ELmer C. Fugate, Wisconson; Arthua A. Phelps of Rochelle and Mrs. J.H. Knight of Rockford. Services will be held at Rockford 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and burial will be made in City Cemetery,Freeport.

ALVIN C. FREY
, 520 E. Jefferson Street, died Saturday afternoon after becoming ill at Dean Dairy in Pecatonica, where he was employed. Mr. Frey was born September 6, 1913 in Ogle County, son of Simon and Tena (Kaltenbach) Frey. On September 4, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa Mr. Frey married the former Marie G. Buntjer. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.
She survives along with four daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Janis) O’Grady and Miss Donna Fey, both of Freeport, Mrs. Louis (Judith) Veach of Dakota, and Mrs. Kenneth (Darlene) Baldauf of Pearl City; his mother, MRs. Frey of German Valley; one brother, Samuel of Pecatonica; four sisters, Mrs. Carl (Irene) Kriens and Mrs. Jennie Freese, both of Freeport, Mrs. Mildred (Agnes) Knodle of Egan, and Mrs. James (Marian) Dieken of Pecatonica; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
Funeral service for Mr. Frey will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Zion United Church of Christ. Rev. Carl Grahl, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call in Walker Mortuary until 10 a.m. Tuesday, then at the church.

MARLENE K. (BUSKER) FREY
, age 64, of Pearl City, died Thursday morning, November 27, 2003 at her home. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pearl City, with Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery in Pearl City. Visitations were from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the church. The Offenheiser-Schwarz Funeral Home made arrangements. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Marlene was born July 12, 1939 in Freeport daughter of Claus and Margaret (Schisler) Busker. She was a graduate of Pearl City High School. Marlene married Warren Frey on September 28, 1957 at the Martintown Community Church. She was employed at the State Bank of Pearl City. Previously, she had worked at Sears for twenty-two years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and also was a member of the Mary Martha Circle of the church. She enjoyed snowmobiling and counted cross-stitching. She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, and her time spent in the north woods. Marlene's family includes her husband of Pearl City; one son, Mark (Ann) Frey of Pearl City; one daughter, Micki (Randy) Holland of Lena; four grandchildren, Jaimee Edler of Freeport, Adrienne Edler of Lena, Daphne Frey of Pearl City and Mya Holland of Lena; one sister, Debi (Lynn) Kempel of Pearl City; five nieces and nephews. Her parents and one sister, Janet Saladino precedes her in death.

KEARNEY FRITSCH
, 81, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
He was born on April 29, 1928, in Monroe, Wis., to William and Mabel (Benfer) Fritsch. He graduated from Winslow High School. Kearney married Reva Napier on Oct. 10, 1957, at Winslow United Methodist Church.
During World War II, he served from October 1946 to January 1948, and spent one year in occupied Japan. Mr. Fritsch farmed for 70 years in Winslow Township.
He worked for Newell Window Furnishings for 25 years in Freeport, and also worked for grocery stores for six years in Monroe, Wis., and Mesa, Ariz.
He was a member of Stephenson County Farm Bureau more than 60 years. He belonged to the Winslow American Legion Stewart-Schneider Post 592 for many years.
He was a past member of Winslow Fire Department and was past president of Winslow Cheese Factory. He spent many years collecting old coins.
Kearney spent 10 years wintering in Arizona. He most loved spending his time with the children and grandchildren
Kearney is survived by four children, Nanette (Jack) Crowe of Mesa, Ariz., Sherri (Roger) Beyer of Eldridge, Iowa, William Fritsch and friend Vicki Fogel of Brodhead, Wis., and Teresa (Robert) Meinert of Winnebago; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Aaron) Steffen, Lindsay Beyer and fiancé Justin Kellett, Adam and Stacy Crowe, Andrew and Emily Meinert and Brayden Fritsch; and one sister, Eileen Kent of Shannon.
He was preceded in death by his parents. His wife died Nov. 20, 1985. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Leamon Funeral Home in Winslow. Burial will be held at Rock Lily Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Leamon Funeral Home in Winslow. A memorial fund has been established for Winslow Fire Department, Winslow American Legion Post 592 and Winslow School.

MARIE H. (WILLEMSSEN) FULS
, 104, of German Valley, died Sunday morning, May 13, 2007, in Stephenson Nursing Center, Freeport. Born March 25, 1903, in George, Iowa., the daughter of Henry and Hannah (Greenfield) Willemssen. Marie married Albert Fuls on January 13, 1930, in George. They farmed together in rural German Valley for 30 years. A talented seamstress, she was employed as an alterations person at J. C. Penney, in Freeport for many years. Marie was an active member of Silver Creek Reformed Church and its women's guild. Her pastime activities included reading and writing journals and poetry. Marie crocheted and donated over 500 baby bonnets to Freeport Memorial Hospital. She also created quilts for each of her grandchildren.
Marie is lovingly survived by her daughters, Ruby (Lester) Wichman of Baileyville and Ruth (Ronald) Dwyer of Fremont, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Kay Fuls of Mosinee, Wis.; grandchildren, Kathy (Michael) Goers, Rodney (Melanie) Wichman, Bonnie (Tom) Bartow, Robert (Jane) Fuls, James (Brenda) Fuls, Jeffrey Fuls, Christina (Michael) Pascal, Todd Dwyer, Faith Abbott, and Matthew (Shelly) Dwyer; 18 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and sister, Eva Suess of Freeport.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Albert Fuls on October 11, 1987; son, Allen Fuls on October 17, 2001; brothers, Irvin and Thomas Willemssen and sisters, Ruth Harms, Carrie Geerdes, Esther Rust, Lillian Hendricks, Lucy Geerdes and Rhoda Koerselman.
Service is at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in Silver Creek Reformed Church 326 S. Bunker Hill Rd., German Valley with the Rev. Randall P. Knoll officiating. - Private funeral services for Clinton B. Furry, 85, native of Freeport who passed away at Rockford, were conducted at 1:15 o'clock this afternoon at Rockford. Rev. O. G. Beckstrand, associate pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, Rockford, conducted the services and interment was made in Cedar Bluff cemetery. Mr. Furry was born May 4, 1855, in Freeport. He resided here until about ten years ago, when he moved to Rockford to make his home with a son. His wife, Anna, passed away several years ago. Surviving are two sons Ray and Guy B. Furry, Rockford.
