PAUL M. LAPP
, 84, of 516 W. Addison Street, Freeport, Illinois died this morning at Freeport Memorial Hospital. (The date was April 5, 1983.) He was a retired machinist from Micro Switch, a veteran of World War I, and a member of the American Legion. Born November 24, 1896 in Mount Carroll, he was the son of Joseph and Emma (Weiler) Lapp. He married Ida Ammerman April 19, 1938 in Freeport.
Surviving are his widow; two brothers, Alman of Rockford and Galen of Byron; and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel (Edward) Belttner) and Mrs. Esther (Frank) Inman, both of Arlinger, Texas. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Arrangements are pending at Walker Mortuary.
GEORGE M. LaSHELLE
, an old resident of Stephenson county, passed away last Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock. Death was due to heart trouble, from which he was suffering for only a short time. Mr. LaShelle was a resident of this county for the past sixty-two years, during which he was very active. His life was one of usefulness and his many interesting stories of early life in this county will be remembered by all who had any talks with him. He was a man of strict integrity.
Forty-five years ago Mr. LaShelle ran a general store on Galena street and enjoyed a profitable trade. His demise ends a useful career. Although he had not been in any business for some time past he was always active. He has been ailing only a few days. For the past year and a half he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Anna Chitty, 127 Benton street.
George M. LaShelle was born in Danville, Pa, January 11, 1839. He came to Freeport with his parents [Martha (Kipp) and Jacob Lashells] in February, 1855. His father opened a general store in Loran the same year and his son followed him in a short time. When a few months past sixteen years of age, in June, he was called to a clerkship at Waverly, Iowa. His voyage to Waverly was a tiresome one. Railroads had been established between here and Dubuque and he went there by that route. From Dubuque he went to Cedar Falls by way of a stage coach. From Cedar Falls he was compelled to go to Waverly on foot. After two years of service in the west he returned to Illinois and established a general store in Kent, in this county. He was united in marriage to Miss Maria Mishler of near Pearl City on October 24, 1864. To this union were born seven children, six of whom survive, as follows: Malcom of Missouri Valley, Iowa; George S. of Chicago; Mrs. Anna Chitty and Mrs. Margaret Kreamer of Freeport; Miss Marie LaShelle of Atlanta, Georgia; and Mrs. Edith Ritchie of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Two sisters, Mrs. Anna Martin of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Mary C. Irvin of Olathe, Kansas, also survive him. His wife preceded him to the grave eight years ago, having passed away June 8, 1910.
Mr. LaShelle became connected with the First Presbyterian church at Shannon when he was twenty-one years of age and has been a follower of the Presbyterian faith ever since that time. He was a veteran of the Civil war, having been a member of Company D, 93rd Illinois Infantry, under Captain Taggart. Most of Mr. LaShelle's life was spent in merchandising. He has been a resident of Freeport for the past twelve years, having moved to this city in January, 1906, the last time after he had spent several years at Kent and Shannon. The family resided at Shannon for forty-six years in all.

JOHN LEBKICHER
, 66, a native of Freeport, passed away yesterday at his home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (Alice Horner’s note: This would indicate he died April 30, 1939. However, the Minnesota Death Certificate Index at mnhs.org gives his date of death as May 1, 1939 in Hennepin County, and it gives his whole name as John Easter Lebkicher.) Mr. Lebkicher spent the greater part of his life in Freeport, having been employed by the John Schwarz & Sons firm as a painter and paper hanger. He was an accomplished musician, having been a member of the old Henney band and other musical organizations here.
Funeral services will be conducted at Minneapolis Wednesday morning. Mrs. John A. Johnson, 828 West Homer Street, a sister-in-law, will attend the funeral.
Mr. Lebkicher was born in Freeport April 14, 1873, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lebkicher. He is survived by his wife and his step-mother, Mrs. Ida Lebkicher, South Walnut Avenue. One brother, Colin Lebkicher, resides in California.

Burial will be made in Oakland Cemetery.
Mrs. Lebkicher, formerly Miss Ida K. Rowell, was born in Ridott Township, Stephenson County, Illinois, the daughter of John and Mariah Rowell. (Alice Horner’s note: Incredibly, neither this obituary nor the Illinois, Deaths And Stillbirths Index, 1916-1947 provides her date of birth. Oakland Cemetery records only provide date of burial; I don’t know what date is on her tombstone.) On May 29, 1876 she was united in marriage with Samuel Trumbaur Lebkicher, who died June 7, 1907. To this union were born three sons, who survive: Frank R. Lebkicher, residing in Wisconsin, Louis L. Lebkicher and William H. LOUIS L. LEBKICHER
, 55, was found dead in a bedroom in the Lebkicher family home at 418 South Walnut Avenue at 12:15 noon today from the effects of fumes which were pouring out of a gas jet on a wall near his bed in the room where he had been ill. Hobart Lebkicher, a brother, returning from work found the body. He told authorities that when leaving the house at 5 o’clock this morning he had talked to Louis and had no cause to believe that he contemplated what authorities believe was suicide. Patrolman Charles Hageman responded to the police call and was joined by Capt. Fred Manthei and Patrolman Robbins after Patrolman Edward Yde, a neighbor, had been called to the Lebkicher home. Authorities said that it would have been necessary for the victim to leave his bed in order to turn on the jet. He had apparently been dead several hours, police said.
Mr. Lebkicher was born in Freeport March 7, 1887, the son of the late Samuel and Ida Lebkicher. He attended Freeport schools and graduated from Freeport High School. For the past eighteen months he had been employed by the Fairbanks-Morse Company and worked there until last Tuesday. He was united in marriage to Miss Maude Chilcott, Rockford, October 14, 1911. The wife was found dead in their home November 3, 1943. His parents also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two brothers, Frank R. Lebkicher of Haugen, Wisconsin and Hobart Lebkicher of Freeport. There is also one niece, Mrs. Edward Liston of Rockford.
