HENRIETTA (KLOEPPING) PLOEGER , was born in Lippe-Detmold, Germany on August 21, 1850 and went to her eternal home early Saturday morning, November 4, 1922, at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 17 days. When the departed was four years of age the family left the fatherland and came to America, and located in Freeport, Illinois, where they remained for a number of years. They then moved to Freedom Township, Carroll County, Illinois, where the parents remained until their deaths.

Henrietta was the oldest of twelve children who were equally divided as to sex; and this circle remained unbroken until a year ago when a sister’s death caused a break in that happy circle. On April 24, 1874 the departed was united in marriage to William H. Ploeger, the Rev. Kurtz officiating. The happy couple at once located on a farm in Jefferson Township, Stephenson County, Illinois. Five children were born unto them, two of whom died in infancy, and one son, Daniel, died in 1912. In 1882 Mrs. Ploeger was bereft of her husband and the children of their father; and the responsibility of providing for the family devolved upon the widowed mother. For 40 long years she traveiled the path of widowhood. It was a lonely path, a trying path; but she was ever sustained by the unseen presence of her Lord.

In her early life she was confirmed in the St. John’s Evangelical Church at Freeport, Illinois, and united with that church. Afer her marriage she transferred her membership to the Ebenezer Evangelical Church, near Loran, and remained a devoted and faithful member of the church up to the time of her departure when she joined the church triumphant. Mother Ploeger delighted in the services of the sanctuary; and when she could not attend her own church, she worshipped at other churches. She could say:
“I love thy kingdom, Lord,
The house of thine abode,
The church our blest Redeemer saved
With his own precious blood.”
Mother Ploeger enjoyed the usual degree of physical hhealth up to ten weeks ago. Since that time she was confined to the home and the greater time to her bed. The suffering during these weeks was often intense; but she “endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” In the home of her son Edward, she received the best of care and attention. Other relatives and neighbors did what they could to make Mother Ploeger’s last days on earth comfortable and at three o’clock on Saturday morning the peaceful end came. She died as she lived. There remain to mourn her departure two sons, Edward F. Ploeger of Shannon, Illinois and William H. Ploeger of Loran, Illinois; and also three grandchildren; six brothers and four sisters, and many other relatives and friends. For her to live was Christ and to die was gain. The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, and were conducted by Rev. K. Klelhorn and Rev. J. G. Finkebeiner, Miss Helen Geiseman and Mrs. Walter Byers rendered appropriate selections with Miss Maud Cheeseman as accompanist. Burial in the Ebenenzer Cemetery.
