The old farm house where the Smith family lived until they moved to the Bungalow on the right which was the last house on the road heading east out of Dakota. It was built by John W. Smith, his son Herbert, and Jerry Twitonier. John W. Smith lived next door to Jennie Pollock, her mom Sarah Morton Pollock, and Jennie's 2 sisters, Ann (who never married), and Mary. Jennie and Mary had both been married, but I'm unclear if they actually divorced or were widows (my grandmother's notes say divorced, but I haven't been able to find a divorce record for either). After John and Jennie married (25 July 1897 in Orangeville), they sold the 2 homes and pooled their money together to by the farmhouse. Jennie was born 2/29/1860 in Brushcreek, Stephenson County, IL. This was apparently a note of local amusement, since there were several articles in the local paper about her "Leap Day" birthdays which are in attachment/picture 2. She died at the age of 95 on 6/23/1955.

Mrs. John (Jennie Pollock) Smith (in her later years) Though 80 years old, has had but 20 birthdays. A resident of Parkview Home for the past 3 years, she observed heer eightieth birthday today. Birthdays are more or less of a novelty to Mrs. Smith, as, falling on the 29th of February, she has only had twenty anniversaries. The other residents planned on afternoon of special entertainment in Mrs. Smith's honor. Mrs. Smith was a former resident of Dakota IL and her only disappointment of the day is not to see her son, Herbert Smith and wife and her new grandson, who reside in Phoenix Ariz. Her 23rd Birthday But She's 92 It's Mrs. Jennie Smith's 23rd birthday today. She was born Feb. 29, 1860, the year Lincoln was elected president, and has lived 92 years. Residents at Parkview home, where she has lived the past 15 years, celebrated at dinner at noon today, with a birthday cake. Mrs. Smith, who is originally from Dakota, has one son in Phoenix, Ariz., and a grandson. To Be 93 Sunday Mrs. Jennie Smith, who lives at Parkview Home, will observe her 93rd birthday quietly Sunday. She was born on February 29, but will observe her birthday on March 1 this year, since February has only 28 days. In October she marked her 16th year at Parkview Home. She had lived in Dakota before that time. She has one son, who is living in Arizona.
