CREVE  COEUR ~ John Clifton Frederick, 84, of 711 Pekin Ave., died at 5 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2008 at Washington Christian Village. Born February 3, 1916 in Mackinaw to Harry C. and Carrie L. (Nutty) Frederick, he married Esther Emma Tanner in 1939.  He later married Gertrude Margaret "Trudy" Warner on September 30, 1961 in Chillicothe.  She died on July 26, 2006 in Pekin.  He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Edwin Lee Frederick in 2007; one daughter, Judy Fincham in 1973 and two sisters.  Surviving are one daughter, Harriette M. Spaw of Belleville; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and one sister, Frances Brooks of Macedonia.  A 1935 graduate of Farmington High School, Cliff worked for Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for 42 years, retiring in 1980 as a wire cleaner in the wire mill.  He was a faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria since 1940.  He enjoyed helping with vacation Bible school and following retirement, Cliff enjoyed volunteering with the Wednesday work group at the church.  He was a member of the Pekin Moose Lodge 916.  Cliff loved horses and was a member of the former Tazewell County Sheriff's Posse in earlier years.  He enjoyed traveling in the summer.  His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria.  The Rev. Douglas A. Lightly will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour before the funeral Tuesday at the church.  Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.

FREDERICK, GERTRUDE (TRUDY)

CREVE  COEUR ~ Gertrude Margaret "Trudy" Frederick, 84, of 711 Pekin Ave., died at 12:35 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Timbercreek Rehab and Health Care in Pekin. Born December 3, 1921 in Allentown to William and Grace Weber Warner, she married John Clifton Frederick on September 30, 1961 in Chillicothe.  Surviving are her husband; 1 step-daughter, Harriette Spaw of Belleville; 1 step-son, Edwin Frederick of Peoria; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Grace (Wilbur) Moore of Morton.  She was preceded in death by 2 brothers.  A 1940 graduate of Brown's School of Business in Peoria, she last worked as a secretary at Commercial Solvents Corporation in Peoria.  <>She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria where she had taught a children's Sunday school class.  She was a member of the Tazewell County Historical Society and had served as the Allentown historian for 50 years.  She enjoyed writing poetry and, during the polio epidemic of the 1950s, she was well known as "Trudy the Story Lady" for reading stories and poetry to the children at St. Francis Hospital.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2006 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria.  The Rev. Robert Donaldson will officiate.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church.  Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.

HAYES, ERNEST
PEKIN~ Ernest A. Hayes, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Pekin, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2008, at the Heritage Manor in Springfield, Illinois.  He was born Oct 21, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Frank and Stella Ibershoff Hayes.  He married Virginia, who proceded him in death.  He lived in Pekin from 1970 to 2003 and was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Pekin.  He loved people and loved to fish.  He is survived by his brother, Bill Hayes (Mabel) of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.  A memorial service will be held at the Second Reformed Church in Pekin on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date in the Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield.  Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of the arrangements.

note: Ernie was my Sunday School teacher in the 70's and early 80's.  He was a very friendly happy man.  His wife Virginia was nice also.  Both were choir members in the church, and loved by all.

MORRIS, FREDERICK

PEKIN ~ Frederick Robert Morris, 85, of 700 Grandview Avenue, passed away at 6:06 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Pekin Hospital.  Born February 25, 1923 in Pekin to Fred Ryer and Gertrude Louise (Schaumleffle) Morris, he married Lois June Leitner on August 12, 1950 in Pekin.  She died November 20, 2002 in Pekin.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Ronald Frederick "Butchie" Morris in January 1956.  Surviving are one daughter, G. Sue (Steve) Redmon of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one son, David W. (Deneen Bowman) Morris of Pekin; two grandsons, Timothy W. Redmon and Thomas R. Redmon, both of Pekin; one great-granddaughter, Brittany L. Redmon of Manito.  He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. 
Fred began working for the City of Pekin on October 1, 1955 as a firefighter and was later promoted to assistant chief on June 30, 1983, retiring November 30, 1987.  He had also worked part-time for Kriegsman's in Pekin from 1966 to 1996.  In earlier years, he worked at Pekin Autobody.  He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 524 in Pekin, Ducks Unlimited, Pekin RC Club, Spring Lake Sportsman's Club, and Chautauqua Sportsman's Club.  Fred enjoyed bird watching, especially Eagles.  In past years, he enjoyed fishing and camping.  His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.  The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.  The Pekin Fire Department Honor Guard will provide honors at both the funeral home and cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Pekin Firefighters Local 524 Charity Fund, Post Office Box 93, Pekin, IL 61555.

Carol Joan Vittori, 68, of 191 E. Queenwood Rd. Morton, IL, formerly of Farmington, passed away Monday, February 18, 2008 at 7:50 am at Morton Terrace Care Center. She was born October 4, 1938 in Peoria to Louis and Elsie (Dieckman) LandiVittori. She is survived by two brothers, David (Amy) LandiVittori of Pekin and Randy (Karen) LandiVittori of Honolulu, Hawaii; and two sisters, Valerie LandiVittori of Peoria and Cheri (Ed) Burrell of Pekin. Carol was of the Lutheran faith and was active with PARC in Peoria. Cremation rites have been accorded. Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington is in charge of arrangements. WOLFER, LORRAINE
PEKIN ~ Lorraine Wolfer, 94, of 975 North Fifth Avenue, Saint Charles, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva.  She was formerly of Pekin. Born February 14, 1914 in Pekin to August and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Conrad, she married Norman E. Wolfer on June 1, 1935 in Minier.  He died June 11, 1993 in Pekin.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters (Dorothy Conrad and Ruby Myers). 
Surviving are two daughters, Norma S. (Dan) Jurgens of Rhinelander, Wisconsin and Wilma L. (Jay) Gillan of Eatonton, Georgia; one son, Robert C. (Julia) Wolfer of Lockport; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.  Lorraine was a member of Saint Paul United Church of Christ, Celestial City Chapter #333 of the Order of Eastern Star, and Victoria Shrine #83 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, all in Pekin.  Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral.  The Rev. Dwight E. KETTERING, ZELMA (BOYER)
PEKIN- Zelma Esther Kettering, 86, of 1406 State St., passed away at 9:56a.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  Born November 2 1921, in Green Valley to Walter and Opal McMullen Boyer, she married Roy W Kettering on October 11, 1942, in Missouri.  He died February 7, 1992.  She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Kettering; one granddaughter, Taunya Schreiber; three brothers (including Paul Boyer) and one sister.  Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl (Don) Knauss in Idaho; two grandchildren; six great-gandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn (Max) Krukewitt of Pekin.   Zelma was a homemaker who also was a very active babysitter.  There are scores of Pekin people who consider Zelma their adopted grandma.  She enjoyed cooking, baking and bird watching.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, with the Rev. SEVIER, LARRY ALBERT
PEKIN- Larry Albert Sevier, 61, of 1408 South 7th street, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.  Born July 26, 1943 in Baltimore MD, to Albert Earl and Bessie May Roof Sevier, he married G. Marie Henderson on january 17, 1969 in Pekin.  She survives.  Also
surviving are three daughters, Debi L. (Ron) Morris of Pekin, Cami L. (Luis) Sanabria of Odessa, Florida, and Kittra R. (Mick) Zantout of Manito; one son, Douglas L. (Andria) Lord of Morris; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sandra K. (Roy) Johnson of Pekin.  His parents preceded him in death.  A United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he served from January 21, 1969 to January 20, 1971.  Mr. Sevier worked for the City of Pekin in the Inspections Department for 7 years as the Plumbing and Sewer Inspector, last working May 31, 2005. He previously worked for Associated Mechanical Inc. (AMI) in East Peoria and at the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant in Clinton.  He was a 30 year member and past vice-president of Plumbers Local #63 in East Peoria and also had served as past president of its PAC. He also was a member of the South Pekin Congregational Church, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #916 in Pekin, and the Peoria Sportsman Club in rural Manito, where he was a former board member.  He enjoyed woodworking, watching NASCAR, and collecting ducks.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Thomas R. Cone will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the funeral home. LYNCH, EDWARD OSCAR
PEKIN- Edward Oscar Lynch, 84, of of 409 Manor Street, died at 9:54 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.  Born December 27, 1920 in Pocahontas County, Iowa to James R. and Emma Biittner Lynch, he married Ivanell M. “Ike” Schriver Lynch on February 2, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa. She survives.  Also surviving are one daughter, Debra Marie Lynch of Potosi, Missouri; one brother, Francis R. (Shannon) Lynch of Varina, Iowa; and two sisters, Carmen (Marlin) Null and Betty (Hank) Sego, both of Pekin.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.  A heavy equipment operator for over 41 years, he last worked for N.E. Finch Construction Company in Peoria for 10 years, retiring January 9, 1986. Previously, he had worked in strip mines. He was a 53 year member of Operating Engineers Local #649 in Peoria.  He had volunteered as a dog trainer at the Pottstown Obedience Training School and also for Tazewell County 4-H Clubs. He had written many articles in the 4-H newsletter.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.  Mr. Lynch has donated his body to science. A memorial service will be held at a later date. MOTT, DOROTHY "DOT"
PEKIN ~ Dorothy “Dot” Mott, 73, of 5612 Williams in Omaha, Nebraska since 2003, died at 6:38 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2005 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha. She was formerly of 1906 St. Clair Drive in Pekin.  Born July 28, 1931 in Chicago to Arthur and Helen Snyder McCullough, she married Ernest T. Mott on June 24, 1950 in Pekin. He survives.  Also surviving are three sons, Steven A. (Gale) Mott and David E. (Lisa) Mott, both of Pekin and Thad W. (Teresa) Mott of Omaha and six grandchildren, Joe Mott, Nick Mott and Gina Mott, all of Pekin, Emma Mott, Elijah Mott and Esther Mott, all of Omaha.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Arthur “Bud” McCullough.  A graduate of Pekin Community High School, Mrs. Mott worked as a legal secretary for an attorney at the Tazewell County Court House in Pekin until she received her real estate license. She then worked as a real estate agent in the Pekin area for the next 10 years.  In 1990, she and her husband moved to Ontario, Canada until his retirement in 1995. They then moved to the Lake of the Ozarks until 2000 when they moved back to Pekin.  Throughout her life, Dorothy was always active whether through walking, playing tennis or bowling. She loved to work, she loved her family and she will be greatly missed.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pekin.  A celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. following services. Cremation has been accorded.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois at OSF Saint Frances Medical Center, 530 Northeast Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, Illinois 61603.

PEKIN – James Howard Scamp, 70, of Danville, Illinois died at 3:10 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Covenant Medical Center of Champaign-Urbana in Urbana. He was formerly of Pekin.  He was born October 29, 1934 in South Pekin to Howard H. and Bernadine I. McCoy Scamp.  Surviving are his mother and step-father, Bernadine and Thaddeus Just of Pekin; 3 daughters, Brenda (Michael) Young and Melissa (Jon) Little, both of Pekin, and Julia Greiner of Bourbonnais, Illinois; 1 son, Mark (Margo) Scamp  of Pekin; and 8 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his father.  Mr. Scamp last worked as a courier for Smith-Kline Pharmaceutical Company. Previously, he had managed several area restaurants for many years.  He formerly attended First United Methodist Church in Pekin.  He enjoyed cooking, reading, was a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and animal lover.  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. VICK, JAMES EUGENE
PEKIN – James Eugene Vick, 58, of 18442 Red Shale Hill Rd., died at 2:10 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2005 at his home.  Born December 24, 1946 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Willard Jackson and Carrie Russell Perkins Vick, he married Pat Freas on July 2, 1967 in Pekin.  Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Jim (P.J.) Vick and Scott (Amy) Vick, both of Delavan; 1 daughter, Tricia (Scott) Springer of Roanoke; 9 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dale (Aloma) Vick of North Pekin, Kelly (Jill) Vick of Pekin; and 2 sisters, Brenda Vick and Annette Vick, both of Pekin.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Mr. Vick worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 37 years, retiring April 1, 2002 as a technical program coordinator.  He was a member of Pekin Moose Lodge #916 and a former member of the Marquette Heights Lions Club.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and his grandchildren.  He attended Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin.  Funeral services will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be two hours prior to services at the funeral home. McMILLIAN, JAMES J
PEKIN ~ James J. McMillian, 80, of 500 Centennial Drive in East Peoria, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 2005 at ManorCare at Riverview in East Peoria. He was formerly of 1324 South 2nd Street in Pekin.  Born February 22, 1925 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Horace J. and Bethel Higgins McMillian, he married M. Eileen Myers on January 30, 1947 in Peoria. She survives.  Also surviving are three daughters, Linda L. (Scott) Crawford of Indianapolis, Indiana, Michele D. Wiegand of East Peoria and Gail L. (David) Burrows of Peoria; seven grandchildren, Marla (Zak) Shockley of Greenfield, Indiana, Daniel Crawford of Indianapolis, Scott (Melissa) Wiegand, Missy Wiegand, both of East Peoria, Kelly Burrows, Kori Burrows and Eric Burrows, all of Peoria and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.  He was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 3rd Airborne in New Guinea.  He was a retired member of Teamsters & Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria, working for N.E. Finch in East Peoria as a truck driver for many years until retiring.   He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916 in Pekin and Creve Coeur American Legion Post 1234.  A great musician who loved country music, Mr. McMillian was a life member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 301. He played the guitar since he was 9 years old and played for more than 20 years with the Glenn Reader Band.  He bowled in leagues at Sunset Lanes in Pekin for many years and was a member of the American Bowling Congress.  He enjoyed traveling and loved his family.  He attended First United Methodist Church in East Peoria.  His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Alan L. Newhall will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in Pekin or to First United Methodist Church in East Peoria.

PEKIN – Leora Ellen Ufheil, 92, of 279 N. Lecanto Highway in Lecanto, Florida died at 5:30 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2005 at Woodland Terrace Nursing Home in Hernando, Florida. She was formerly of 1471 Valle Vista Blvd. in Pekin.  Born December 13, 1912 in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Clinton and Ida Keena Flathers, she married Albert Ufheil in December 1937 in Peoria.  She was preceded in death by her husband on June 11, 1979 in Dunedin, Florida; 7 brothers; and 1 sister.  Surviving are 2 sons, John (Rosemary) Ufheil of Lecanto and James (Catherine) Ufheil of Medford, New Jersey; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert (Phyllis) Fabry of Wyoming, Illinois; and 1 sister, Mary (Ralph) Hanes of Maroa, Illinois. A homemaker, she was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin and the King’s Daughters.  She collected ceramic birds and bird photos and enjoyed reading.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2005 at First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin. Rev. Robert A. Scott will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. TOOLEY, BRETTON CURTIS "BRET"
PEKIN ~ Bretton Curtis “Bret” Tooley, 30, of 1513 Sara Lane, Apartment 3, died at 3:35 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2005 at his home. He was born October 5, 1974 in Peoria to Curtis Walter and Susan Ann Canopy Tooley.  Surviving are his mother and step-father, Susan and Scott Bickly of West Covina, California; father and step-mother, Curtis and Sandra Tooley of Morton; one brother, Bradley Joseph (Heather) Long of Wisconsin; and his grandfather, Robert Null of Manito.  He was preceded in death by his grandmothers and one grandfather.  Bret was a certified basic emergency medical technician.  He was a member of the Self Realization Fellowship.  A talented artist, he enjoyed his computer and was a cat lover.  Private services will be Thursday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes

WOODLEY, ROBERT MARL
PEKIN ~ Robert Marl Woodley, 81, of 1306 Meyers Court, died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005 in Pekin.  Born July 1, 1923 in Pekin to Horace Hal and Verna M. Young Woodley, he married Theresa Bea Hume. He later married Kathleen Eileen McCray on October 23, 1948 in Peoria. She survives.  Also surviving are two sons, Robert J. (Melva) Woodley of Rangely, Colorado and Danny J. Swift of Pekin; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister (Norma Jean Barker), two half-sisters, and one half-brother.  Mr. Woodley worked for Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for 40 years, retiring in 1982 as a wire drawer.  An avid bowler, he was a member of the Hall of Fame of the Pekin Bowling Association. He was a former board member and past assistant secretary of the Pekin Bowling Association. He also was a past league secretary.   He was a Chicago Cubs fan.   He attended First United Methodist Church in Pekin.  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. PEORIA ~ Gary Dean Huffman, Sr., 61, of 915 South Helen Street, Apartment 101, died at 2:16 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.  He was born July 10, 1943 in Peoria to Louis Franklin Sr. and Evelyn Margaret Brown Huffman.  Surviving are two sons, Gary D. Jr. (Brandy) Huffman and Billy Joe (Christie) Huffman, both of Marquette Heights; three daughters, Lynn Sue (Eddie) Garcia of Roanoke, Deana L. (Glenn) Theinert of Hanna City, and Sherri J. Huffman of Peoria Heights; twenty grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Ervin W. Huffman, Sr. of Peoria; and one sister, Sharon L. Test of Peoria.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Louis F. Huffman, Jr.), and one nephew.  Mr. Huffman was a well known painter at area autobody shops for 30 years. He later was a bartender at several taverns in Peoria. In the early 1970’s, he was a truck driving instructor at Illinois Central Illinois in East Peoria.  He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Peoria.  He enjoyed watching TT motorcycle racing and cooking.  Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. PEKIN ~ Bernice Lorraine Vetter, 90, of 1416 North Capitol Street, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Pekin Manor.  Born January 14, 1915 in Pekin to John and Mary Smith Farrow, she married Emil Albert Fornoff on August 3, 1931 in Valparaiso, Indiana. He died May 16, 1949. She later married Philip G. Vetter on October 27, 1950. He died March 3, 1986 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son (Robert D. Fornoff on May 9, 2004 in Pekin), four sisters, and five brothers.  Surviving are one son, Bill E. (Patricia) Fornoff of Charlotte, North Carolina; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Fornoff of Pekin, who helped care for her; four grandchildren, Stephen L. (Debra) Fornoff of Washington and Diane L. Fornoff of Pekin, both who helped care for her, Tracy (Kevin) Grove of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Kristen (Shawn) Brodof of Charlotte, North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Merle (Betty) Farrow of Pekin; and one sister, Juanita Hall of Pekin.  She was a bookkeeper for Drs. Wherry, Werner, Helden, and Colson in Pekin for many years.  She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin, where she was a member of the Concordia Society.  She formerly enjoyed to knit, bowl and camping.  Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. NORTH PEKIN ~ James Russell Boyd, Sr., 84, of 140 Sunset Boulevard, died at 9:29 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005 in the emergency room of Pekin Hospital.  Born January 3, 1921 in Paragould, Arkansas to Jay Hugh and Inez Louise Hensley Boyd, he married Ruth Irene Funk on July 26, 1941 in Palmyra, Missouri. She survives.  Also surviving are one son, James R., Jr. (Bonnie) Boyd of Pekin; one daughter, Rozanna A. (Jerry) Gniadek of Pekin; three grandchildren, Stacey L. (Brian) Nannen and Christine K. (Rusty) Dunn, both of Pekin, and Chaney A. (Joanna) Gniadek of Tremont; and five great-grandchildren.  His parents and one sister (Sylvia L. Prince) preceded him in death.  Mr. Boyd worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1979 as a scribe mill operator in building LL in East Peoria. He previously worked at Koch Brothers Distributing in Peoria as a bottler and later at Corn Products Company in Pekin.  He was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club and the United Auto Workers Local 974 Retirees Club.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. She survives.  Also surviving are two sons, Edward V. Watson of Pekin and Jeffrey A. Watson of South Pekin; two daughters, Kathleen R. “Kitten” Watson of Montoursville, Pennsylvania and Tricia G. Watson of Woodson; three step-daughters, Connie L. (Jesse) Jackson, Joyce A. (Rogelio) Sanchez, and Kimberly D. (“Mo”) Ball, all of Pekin; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Earnest “Bud” Watson and Randy (Cheryle) Watson, both of Pekin, Charles “Chuck” (Sandy) Watson of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, John “Wes” Watson of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Rodger (Donna) Watson of Emden; and five sisters, Stella (Tori) Bowen of Virginia, Illinois, Ruth (Gerald) Campbell of Green Valley, Joann Miller of Pekin, Sally (Ty) Harbourn of Delavan, and Katie (Bill) Rawlings of Herod.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson (Larry D. “Little Larry” Dillon, Jr.), and one sister (Fran Cantrell).  Mr. Watson worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 31 ½ years, retiring in 2001 as an assembler at Mossville.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching NASCAR. MACKINAW ~ Susanne Hoecker, 59, of 539 Heritage Drive, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at her residence.   Born June 17, 1946 in Jacksonville to John William and Ruth Evelyn Roach Brown, she married Martin L. Hoecker on September 23, 1967 in Jacksonville. He survives.  Also surviving are three sons, Mark E. (Anouk) Hoecker of Mackinaw, Scott M. (Jennifer) Hoecker of rural Pekin and Jeff M. Hoecker of Springfield; two granddaughters, Baylee P. Hoecker and Brooke A. Hoecker, both of rural Pekin; two brothers, James A. Brown and John M. (Joyce) Brown, both of Ashland and six sisters, Sara E. (Rick) Alloway of Jacksonville, Patricia (Steve) Tribble of Bloomington, Rita R. Stuewe of Sherman, Jane M. Lair of Jacksonville, Jean M. (Mike) Murphy of Hettick and Phyllis A. (Chris “R.J.”) Graue of Lincoln.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant twin sister.  She received her associate’s degree in nursing from Illinois Central College in 1988. She then worked as a registered nurse in the mother-baby unit at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, last working in 2003.  A family oriented person, she was especially fond of her granddaughters.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton. She was formerly of Newton.  She was born January 17, 1973 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Lester and Virginia Leona Birch Tackett.  Surviving are her aunts, Alta M. (Jerry) Pullen of Clayton, Indiana and Donna F. Huddleston of Pekin, with whom she formerly resided and special friends who helped raise her, Rev. Norman and Debbie Jaegar of St. Louis and Peggy Smith of Clayton.  Her parents and grandparents preceded her in death.  She was a 1993 graduate of Pekin Community High School.  She formerly attended several area churches including Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.  Miss Tackett had formerly worked at Tazewell County Resource Centers, Inc. (TCRC) in both Peoria and Tremont.  Her funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Paul D. Myers will officiate. PEKIN ~ Margy Ann Schieberl, 78, of 7050 Madison Street, Willowbrook, died at 1:25 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2005 at the Chateau Village Nursing Home in Willowbrook. She was formerly of Pekin.  Born December 23, 1926 in Pekin to John Edgar and Wilhelmina Annetta “Minnie” Koobs Wolfer, she married William Schieberl. He died in March of 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, nine brothers, and two sisters.  Surviving are two sisters, Muriel S. Buchanan of Pekin and Minnie E. (George) Wilson of Inverness, Florida; one brother, Dr. George K. (Natalie) Wolfer of Edmore, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.  She worked as a nurse anesthetist at the Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale for many years.  She was a member of the Hinsdale Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hinsdale.  Cremation will be accorded. PEKIN ~ Gayle Sue Gardiner, 51, of 1421 Matilda Street, died at 6:37 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.  Born June 17, 1954 in Pekin to Alvin Leo “Al” and Edith Ellnora Stewart Harding, she married William Spencer “Bill” Gardiner. He survives.  Also surviving are her parents of Pekin; one son, Damon L. (Katie) Gardiner of Pekin; one daughter, Chana D. (Brian) Thousand of Creve Coeur; and four grandchildren, Zackery D. Gardiner and Victoria C. Gardiner, both of Elwood, Indiana, and Devin C. Thousand and Jaden M. Thousand, both of Creve Coeur.  Her grandparents preceded her in death.  Gayle had worked as the manager for the Atkins Apartments in Peoria for many years. She later worked as a caregiver for the Department of Rehabilitation Services in Pekin, last working in September of 2004. Previously, she worked at Wal-Mart, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Subway on North 8th Street, all in Pekin, and Professional Maintenance of Illinois in Peoria.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Pekin.  She enjoyed collecting knives and swords.  A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. He survives.  Also surviving are her mother of Pekin; two daughters, Hilarie E. (Rodney) Nehmelman of San Jose and Nicole M. Sutton of Manito; five grandchildren, Brody M. Sutton, Tyler J. Sutton, and Dakota M. Sutton, all of Manito, Austin G. Nehmelman of San Jose, and Wesley W. Holliger of Manito; one brother, Brad D. (Karen) McCain of Pekin; and one sister, Penny L. McCain of Pekin.  She was preceded in death by her father on April 23, 1976 in Pekin, one sister (Lorrie A. McCain on September 4, 2003 in rural Manito), and one brother (Mark L. McCain on June 1, 1975 in Peoria).  A homemaker, she worked in the cafeteria at Spring Lake School in rural Manito for several years, last working in 2002.  She was a member of the Peoria Sportsman Club in rural Manito.  She enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, and her animals.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. (Mary) Whitehurst of Liverpool and Douglas K. Whitehurst of Chicago; four sisters, Robin R. Flier of Washington, Rosalie A. Brokaw of Rich Hill, Missouri, Barbie L. CREVE COEUR ~ Ruth Clark, 93, of 401 9th Street in Lacon passed away at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Lacon. She was formerly of 413 North Highland Avenue in Creve Coeur.  Born May 27, 1912 in Hartford, Connecticut to Alfred and Josephina Albertina Vidholm Stenwall, she married Leroy Thomas Clark on March 31, 1940 in Kewanee. He died March 18, 1997 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one grandson.  Surviving are one daughter, Janice A. “Jan” (Tony) Bonnette of Creve Coeur; one son, David G. Clark of Georgetown, South Carolina; five grandsons, Fred Clark of Peoria, Christopher (Kim) Clark of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Richard Bonnette, Robert Bonnette, both of Dallas, Texas and David Clark, Jr. of Georgetown, South Carolina and one great-granddaughter, Madison Nicole Clark.  She was a homemaker. She also was a former den mother and Girl Scout leader.  She was a former member of the Creve Coeur Library Board for more than 20 years. She was also a former member of the Creve Coeur Women’s Club and the Creve Coeur Home Extension.   She was a member of the Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur and its Altar and Rosary Society.  Her funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005  at Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur. The Rev. Timothy Nolan and Rev. Lawrence P. Morrissey will officiate. He was formerly of East Alton.  Born August 29, 1930 in Elsberry, Missouri to William and Clara Baird Berkley, he married Erma Jean Merideth on October 10, 1952 in Arkansas. He later married Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Davenport on February 1, 1969 in Decatur. She survives.  Also surviving are three daughters, Lynn L. (Jack) Peters, Donna L. (Scott) Books and Patricia A. (Wes) Jockisch, all of Pekin; one son, Tony D. (Connie) Berkley of Pekin; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and one sister, Bonnie B. Colbert of Elsberry, Missouri.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Albert Berkley.  He served with the United States Air Force and retired from the Owens Illinois Glass Works in Alton.  He was Southern Baptist. He also was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and camping. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.  His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. He died February 16, 1948. She then married Rev. Baskell Vernon Monroe on October 31, 1958 in London. He died in August 1982 in Pekin. He was formerly of Mackinaw and Minier.  He was born November 24, 1928 in Danvers Township, McLean County to Thomas and Anna Winkler Wells. His parents; one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.  Surviving are one sister, Cleora Sigler of Pekin; his caregivers, Omer L. and Norma J. Noel of Manito and several nieces and nephews.  He was a graduate of Illinois State University at Normal. He also was a United States Air Force veteran.  Mr. Wells was a retiree of the Peoria Journal Star, where he worked from April of 1967 to June of 1979 as a copy editor. He previously was a high school teacher.  He was a former member of the Christian Church in Mackinaw and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916 in Pekin.  His graveside funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2005 at Mackinaw Township Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

SUTTON, LEILA
PEORIA – Leila Sutton, 89, of 3 Vicksburg Station, St. Charles, Missouri, died at 12:15 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2005 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles. She was formerly of Peoria.  Born February 16, 1916 in Farmington to Nathaniel and Minnie Ashton Wake, she married Walter C. Sutton, Sr. on May 19, 1934 in Peoria. He died January 11, 1994 in Peoria.  Also preceding her in death were 1 granddaughter and 2 brothers.  Surviving are 1 son, Walter C. (Ellen) Sutton, Jr. of St. Charles; 1 daughter, Geraldine (Ray) Erwin of Detroit, Michigan; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and 3 sisters, Lillian Stamper of Pekin, Alice (Lee) Jacobian of Oceanside, California, and Marjorie Hausam of San Diego, California.  A homemaker, she had been a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Peoria.  She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2005 at Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin. Rev. Michael McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.  Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church organ fund.

HEDRICK, CHRISTOPHER ALAN
PEKIN ~ Christopher Alan “Chris” Hedrick, 45, of 4076 Craig Place, Gainesville, Georgia, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2005 at his home following a lengthy physical illness. He was formerly of Pekin and Reno, Nevada.  Born October 1, 1959 in Pekin to Darrell Roy and Donna Jean Dilworth Hedrick, he married Susan Kay Pankey on July 8, 1984 in rural Pekin. She survives.  Also surviving are his father of Reno, Nevada; one son, Ryan Christopher Hedrick of Gainesville, Georgia; one daughter, Tara Danielle Hedrick of Gainesville, Georgia; one brother, Darrell Ray (Carol) Hedrick of Reno, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and one grandson (Kamren Zane Hedrick).  A 1977 graduate of Wooster High School in Reno, Nevada, he was a member of the wrestling and football teams.  Mr. Hedrick had worked for Ditler Brothers in Oakwood, Georgia for over 7 years, last working in 1995.  He was a member of Chestnut Mountain Church in Chestnut Mountain, Georgia.  He was an avid Oakland Raiders football fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Carman Foster will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a fund for the Hedrick children in care of Bank of America, 3637 Munday Mill Road, Oakwood, Georgia 30566.

WATSON, ELEANOR (HAMILTON)
CREVE COEUR – Eleanor Marie Watson, 82, formerly of Creve Coeur, died at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Snyder Village in Metamora.  Born March 17, 1923 in Peoria to Edward and Marie Mohr Hamilton, she married James Clifford Shinall on August 30, 1941 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He died June 26, 1981 in Peoria. She later married William Vincent Watson on September 1, 1984 in Creve Coeur.  She was preceded in death by her husband on March 8, 2001 in Morton; and 1 brother.  Surviving are 2 daughters, Rebecca (Pat) Booth of East Peoria and Sandra Quinn of Metamora; 2 step-daughters, Nancy (Alan) Hersemann of East Peoria and Judy L’Heureux of Friendswood, Texas; 4 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.  A homemaker, she had also worked at Nyman’s Market in Creve Coeur for 5 years during the late 1970s. She had previously worked as a bookkeeper at Ed’s Radiator and Welding Shop in Creve Coeur and at the Bonanza Steak House in Peoria.  She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Creve Coeur.  She had been an assistant Girl Scout leader in Creve Coeur during the early 1950s. She enjoyed crocheting.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur chapel. Rev. Don Zumwalt will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the funeral home. ORRICK, DARLENE (CHANEY)
PEKIN- Darlene L Orrick, 60, of 1009 South Capitol Street, died at 2:37 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2005 in the emergency room of Pekin Hospital.  Born November 1, 1944 in Robinson to Otto Kenneth and G. Corinne Talbott Chaney, she married Thomas James Orrick, II on October 26, 1963 in Forest City. He survives.  Also surviving are her mother, G. Corinne DeSutter of Manito; one daughter, Brenda L. (Edward) Schwinn of Pekin; one son, Douglas D. (Kelly) Orrick of Pekin; three grandchildren, Karson A. Orrick, Thomas J. Orrick, III, and Connor E. Schwinn, all of Pekin; one brother, Duane (Karen) Chaney of Manito; and one step-sister, Becky (Rob) Laumeier of Niota.  She was preceded in death by her father and step-father (Frank DeSutter).  A homemaker, Mrs. Orrick was a co-founder and past president for several years of the former Central Illinois Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in Pekin.  She was a member of the Forest City Community Church in Forest City and attended Crossroads Full Gospel Church in rural Pekin.  She enjoyed sewing and photography.  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. James Hawkins will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. HOEHN, RICHARD "DICK"
PEKIN – Richard F. “Dick” Hoehn, 75, of 302 Sheridan Rd. died at 12:09 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.  Born May 31, 1930 in Princeton to Randall F. and Anna M. Broers Hoehn, he married Donna F. Gardiner on February 25, 1951 in Pekin.  Surviving are his wife; 1 son, Dennis G. (Debby) Hoehn of South Pekin; 1 daughter, Randa L. Hoehn of Bartonville; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Randall J. Hoehn of Washington.  He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son; and 1 grandson.  He worked at Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 43 years retiring as a transmission hydraulic controls senior design engineer in 1992.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Green Valley where he was involved in the dartball league and the Christian Service Organization.  He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Caterpillar Retirees Club.   He held 3 U.S. patents in his name and was a co-holder on many more patents through Caterpillar.  He was a member of the Handyman’s Club and enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking, wood carving, and intartia.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Green Valley. Rev. Thomas R. Wenndt and William Krueger, D.C.E. will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel and 1 hour prior to services at the church. EWING, GUY N
PEKIN ~ Guy N. Ewing, 74, of 2206 Scenic View Court, died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.  Born May 23, 1931 in Danville to Guy and Marie Watson Ewing, he married F. Janet Tobin on July 1, 1950 in Danville. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Norman Fred (Cindy) Ewing of Peoria and R. Scott Ewing of Pekin; one daughter, Kathleen L. (Dick) Bouris of El Paso; and three grandsons, Keith N. Ewing and Joshua R. Ewing, both of Pekin, and Bradley A. Bouris of El Paso. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.  He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War.  Mr. Ewing worked as a train master for 40 years, last working for Indiana Harbor Belt in Chicago where he retired in June of 1991. Following retirement, he worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, last working July 6, 2005.  He was active in area youth sports for many years and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.  Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Pastor Joe Magner will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded   Memorial contributions may be made to the Shade Memorial Youth Camp, Post Office Box 1027, Pekin, Illinois 61555-1027.

ENOS, CELESTINE "SALLY" ZIEGLER
PEKIN – Celestine Margaret “Sally” Enos, 93, of 1904 Willow St. died at 11:18 p.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at her home.  Born June 16, 1912 in Henry, Illinois to John and Anna Staab Ziegler, she married Melvin M. “Dan” Enos on June 23, 1932 in Henry.  She was preceded in death by her husband on September 24, 1980 in Peoria; and 2 brothers.  Surviving are 2 sons, Jerry Enos and Robert Enos, both of Peoria; 3 daughters, Jackie Workman of Chillicothe, and Janice (Don) Oates and Jean Christy, both of Pekin; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.  A homemaker, she was of the Catholic faith.  She was formerly a member of the Ladies of the Moose and the Eagles auxiliary, both in Pekin. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and traveling.  Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday at Calvary Cemetery in Henry. There will be no visitation.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4234 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, IL 61614.  Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel.

MUTH, KEVIN F
PEKIN ~ Kevin F. Muth, 43, of 1408 Hazel Street, died at 2:33 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005 at his residence. He was formerly of Chicago.  Born August 2, 1962 in DeKalb to Frank and Donna Matheny Muth, he married Shawn L. Hoehn on July 27, 2001 in Pekin. She survives.  Also surviving are one son, Derek S. Muth; one step-son, Dustin M. Hoehn and one brother, Brian S. (Kim) Muth, all of Pekin.  Also surviving are one son, Derek S. Muth; one step-son, Dustin M. Hoehn and one brother, Brian S. (Kim) Muth, all of Pekin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, Paula Muth.  A graduate of the Cooking Academy of Chicago in 1998, Kevin was the kitchen manager at Kelleher’s Irish Pub on Southwest Water Street in Peoria since it’s opening in 2001, last working Tuesday. He previously worked as a foreman for Richardson Seating in Chicago for 10 years.  He loved to cook and was an active member of the American Culinary Federation, Inc. since 1999. He also was an avid fan of Chicago professional sports.  His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be held two hours before services. The Rev. Thomas R. Wenndt will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following services.  Memorial contributions may be made to a fund for his son, Derek, in care of Heartland Bank.
