"Uncle Mat" Bever, of Hopedale, Tazewell County, sold some geese the
other day, and among them was a gander thirty-one years old.

Mrs. PORTMAN is having a new house built on the corner of Trench and
????? streets.
The propeller Empire and two canal boats, heavily laden with grain,
passed up the river yesterday.
The O.I. & W. piler-driver will have completed its work at the
river bank in a day or two.
John WEYRICH, the hardware merchant is having water connections placed
at his residence on Ann Eliza street.
A.E. REANEY, general salesman for A.H. Andrews & co. of
Chicago, is in the city on business.
The tow boat, Jack Robertson, with a barge loaded with wood, passed up
the river for Peoria yesterday afternoon.
The steamer Lotus with a barge, went north loaded with freight taking
the place of Isabel. The Lotus hails from Havana.
The toe boat, Jim Watson, yesterday passed south with two large barges
laden with ice for Southern markets.
The river is falling at the rate of three inches every 24hours.
