Arlene Death of a Pioneer: John H. EYRSE died at the home of his daughter Mrs.E. C. Van Loon of Streator, at 1:30 O'clock Thursday afternoon . He had been sick for some time and his death had been expected for the past week. The deceased was born in Hampshire, Va. 22 Nov. 1832, and came to Tazewell County in 1847. With his brother he entered land on Delavan Prarie and resided their for several years, coming later to Pekin, where he has resided most of time since. He was married to Amanda RUPLE, of Cincinnati township, who preceeded him to the great beyond fifteen years ago. To them were born five children: Henry of Peoria, Charles of this city: Mrs. E.C. Van Loon, of Streator: Mrs. Julius Studyville and Mrs Cash Irish of Peoria--who with one sister, Mrs. Mary Gay, of this city are left to mourn his demise.In an early day Mr. Eyrse was prominently identified with the business interest of the city. He followed the business of contracting and building for years and was also engaged in the grocery business. At one time he conducted a grangers' store in a building that stood a little west of the residence of Charles Duisdicker, on Court Street. For severl years he had been living a retired life. Mr. Eyrse was a kind and noblehearted man, ever ready to lend a hand to those in trouble,amny many whom he had befriended cannot say too much in his praise. The deceased resided near San Jose over fifty years ago and was a brother of the late Samuel G. Eyrse, of this city. He has visited here quite often and was well known to many of our readers. The remains arrived at Pekin from Streator Saturday, at which place the funeral occured Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, from the home of his son Charles in that city, 904 Court St. This obit also on John H. Second street died at 4:20 p.m. Monday in Pekin public hospital. Her body was taken to the Noel Funeral home where friends may call. She was born Aug 15, 1890, in Mt. Pulaski, the daughter of Ottmar and Emma Maurer Fischer.She was married in Pekin May 4, 1913 to Arthur Berger. Mrs. Berger was a member of St. John's Luthern church and of the Equal Rights club. Surving are her husband; two sons Victor L. and Marvin A. Berger both of Pekin: one grandson , xxx of Chicago two brothers both of Pekin and one sister of Pekin. Funeral services will be at 2:30 Wesnesday afternoon at Noels with the Rev. George A. Ross pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in Glendale cemetery. Stephen Berger Lifetime Area Resident, Dies Stephen Arthur BERGER, 75 of 1114 S. Second Street died at 4:pm Thursday in Pekin hospital where he had been a patient for some time. Born July 18, 1886, in Dillon township, he was the son to Stephen and Martha Jane MAY BERGER. He married Bertha Fischer at Pekin May 4, 1913. She died June 28, 1954. He was married at Pekin July 18, 1957 to (living?) who survives. mr. Berger who lived in this state all his wife, was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. His great delight was fishing, hunting and outdoor life and he was a member of the Izaak Walton League.He was a welder at Murphy-Walsh for 40 years.Surving besides his wife are two sons, Victor L. and Marvin A. Berger,both of Pekin; two brothers, Albert and Harry Berger, also of Pekin; one grandchild and one great grandchild. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.Funeral services will be help at 2:30 p.m Saturday in the Noel Funeral Home, with Paul Lemons officiating. Born in Rural Tremont July 24, 1888 He was the son of Stemen M. and Martha Jane May Berger. His marriage to Lucinda Amelia Joesting occured in Pekin Nov. 13 1909 She died 22 july 1979. Mr. Berger was emplyed by the Murphy and Walsh Steel Tank Mfg. Firm for 44 years and was plant superintendent for 28 years before he retired in 1954. He was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman and had enjoyed fishing just last summer. Surv are two sons Walter E. and ... and one daughter all of Pekin; six grandchildren 12 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Stephen BERGER Stephen BERGER, 199 Jane St. , employed of the Pekin Municipal Street Railway for several years, died at 9:00 P.M. (Sat. 20 Sep 1924) . Mr. Berger had been ill for some time and recently underwent an operation. He was born in Ohio in 1858 and had been a resident of Pekin for many years. He is survived by his wife formerly Martha Jane May and the following children: Arthur Berger, Albert, Harry and Charles Berger all of Pekin and Mrs. James Thompson of Pekin and a son Martin who is in the United States Navy, stationed in Chaina. Four sisters, Mrs. Anna McClure, mrs. Minnie Miller and Mrs. Lizzy Haney all of Minier and Mrs.Sarah Cress of Delvavan also survive. Mr. Berger was a member of the Baptist church in Tremont. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at !:30 o'clock at Lohnes Funeral Parlors on Court St. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Long illness is fatal to Pekin woman Mrs. Martha BERGER succombs at home. Born at Mackinaw Mrs. Martha Berger, widow of Stephen Berger died last evening at 3:00o'clock at her home at 119 Jane Street after an illness which had extended over many months. She was a daughter of Auston and Malinda MAY and was born at Mackinaw, Sept 9, 1867. She had lived in the county the greater part of her life. Her marriage which was to Stephen Berger took place in Peoria Oct 7, 1885. Mr. Berger's death occured seven years ago. Five sons, Albert, Harry, Charles and Martin Berger, a daughter Mrs. James Thompson and 11 grandchildren survive. She also leaves three brothers James May of Louisanana, William May Chillicothe Mo. and Albert May, Geneva Illinois two sisters Mrs. walter Scott Mackinaw and Miss Nellie May Peoria. | MRS. BERGER THOMPSON Thursday 27 Feb 1924 MRS. BERGER THOMPSON was born in Tremont Sept 12, 1896 to Stephen and Martha Berger who are both deceased. She was reared in Tremont vicinity and has lived around or in Pekin. on Aug. 15, 1920 she was united in marriage to J. F. Thompson in Florence Kansas. She died at the Pekin Hospital about 5 Pm Thursday 27 Feb 1924. She is survived by her husband and the following children; Hary Thompson age 13, Harold Thompson 10, and Irene Meixsell 16 a senior in the comm. High School. The following brothers Arthur, Alber, Harry, Martin and charles all of Pekin. Funeral arrangements have not been completed but burial will probably by Friday in the Miars Cem. at Tremont. Walter Joesting, Cuba Tavern Operator Dies Cuba--Walter E. JOESTING, 63 of curba , died at 1:20 p. m. Saturday (10 May 1962) at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born at Green Valley Aprill 11 1898, the son of John P. and Elizabeth Groves Joesting. He was married in Kahoka, Mo. 19 Jul 1942 to Ina Mae ThARPE who survives... Mrs. Scamhorn Succumbs; Last Rites Saturday Mrs. Clara Matilda SCAMHORN, 69, died at 7:15 p. m. Wednesday in Peoria hospital following an illness of several years. Born in San Jose, Ill, Aug 5, 1886 she was a daughter of John P. and Vina Groves Joesting. She was married to Samuel DAVISON and he died in 1914. Later, she was married to Solomon Scamhorn who died in 1949. A member of the Green Valley Methodist church, she had been a lifelong resident of this state. For many years, she resided in the San Jose community. She had resided with her daughter of Pekin since the death of her husband in 1949, until she was hospitalized several months ago. Surviving are two daughters, one son and three brothers, Ernest Joesting of Pekin; George Joesting of Mapleton,

Services will be a 1:p.m. Wednesday in the Kuecks Funeral Home with rites by President Ellis Allred of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, of which Horton was a member. OBITUARY OF J. O. GILLESPIE Jacob Owen Gillespie was born April ll, l832, at Huntington, PA, and died January 20, l922, at the age of 89 years, 9 mo. and 9 days. He came to IL with his parents, Christian and Dorothy Gillespie, when l4 yrs. old. He was the second oldest of a family of 8 children, all of whom have preceded him in death. On Nov. 29, l855, he was joined in matrimony to Sarah Jane Munsell, at Twin Grove, IL. The following year, they moved to a farm on Broadway, one mile south of Minier. To this union were born 8 children: Mrs. Dora Ling; Mrs. Louisa Sully; Mrs. Mary Carr; Mrs. Hallie Catlin; and Albert Gillespie, who have preceded him in death. Those remaining to mourn his demise are Elmer Gillespie and Mrs. Carrie Ogden, of Minier; and Leslie Gillespie, of Alma, OK. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. Jacob Owen Gillespie united with the Methodist church when a young man and has consistently continued his connection with the same until his death. He was on the building committee of the church on Broadway. He has also been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for ___(25 or 45??) years. The funeral was held at the M.E. church last Monday in charge of Dr. A.A. White, of Normal. The interment was in the Minier cemetery. Those who attended the funeral from out of town were Carl Gillespie and Mrs. Ann Weedman, of Farmer City; George Gillespie and daughter, Luella, of Champaign; Park Gillespie of Normal; Mrs. Dave Hensell and son, Mr. and Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Louise Long of Mackinaw; Mr. and Mrs. Will Ficht and daughter, Dorothy, and F.
