Genealogy Trails is growing in leaps and bounds!
Where we used to have just the one main Illinois mailing list, we now find that we need to have different mailing lists for different areas of the country to keep things organized. These are the mailing lists that our county and state hosts use to announce their website updates.

If you're looking for query and/or individual surname mailing lists, rootsweb.com is the place to go for those. They have a big corporation to foot their bills for them, while we're just a group of volunteers paying our own way :-)

If you want to keep advised of our website updates, the groups below will help you to determine which mailing list to subscribe to

**PLEASE NOTE:  Before you subscribe to any of our lists, please make sure your virus protection software is up to date.**

If you are only interested in receiving messages that pertain to your family or your county/state, these lists aren't what you're looking for. The lists are meant to be a place where the hosts can announce the website updates and where you can exchange queries with each other. You do not need to belong to this list to visit our county pages, and there is NO CHARGE to subscribe to a mailing list.

If you are not familiar with using a mailing list, here's what you can expect:

All email lists basically work the same way, no matter where they are housed. The messages go to a central computer and therefore, you need to be sure you use the correct email address. The message has to get to that computer and, by using the proper commands, you tell it what it is you want it to do. A computer cannot think for itself. This is why you need to follow the directions given below carefully. You won't be dealing with a human being who can try to guess at what you're attempting to do.
A mailing list is simply a single email address that points to a list of email addresses (subscribers). When a member of the list sends a message to the email list, every subscriber will receive a copy. The number of messages per day can vary. Some days you might receive a large amount of mail, other days you might receive none.

Follow "netiquette". There are simple points of suggestion to follow when you're exchanging email messages with a group or with an individual. The running of this list requires the cooperation of all who join in order to run smoothly and accomplish what's it's been set up to do. Be polite, don't "flame" anyone and we'll be ok.


DO NOT send unsubscribe messages to the mailing list. This interupts the flow of the list topic, which is historical and genealogical help and research. If you need help with the instructions, email Kim.
