HAROLD ERNEST HINKLE, SR.




MODESTO, CA–HAROLD ERNEST HINKLE, SR., 68, of Modesto died Tuesday (June 13, 1995) at Doctors Medical Center.
Mr. Hinkle was a native of Reynoldsville, Ill, (born Feb 4, 1927). He had lived in Modesto since 1963. He had retired as a truck driver; he last worked for Red Ball Trucking. He belonged to the Double Buddy, Golden State and Tube Testers citizens band radio clubs. He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1944 and in the Army from 1946 to 1949 and from 1952 to 1953. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Hinkle of Modesto; children, Harold E. Hinkle Jr. and Ellen Kay Wood, both of Modesto, Terry Lee Hinkle of Ceres, Mary Ann Sparks of Merced, Danny Eugene Hinkle of Redding, Debbie Lynn Hinkle and Michael Wayne Hinkle Sr., both of Toledo, Wash., and Gary Lee Hinkle of Springfield, Ill.; stepmother, Edna Hinkle of Redding; brothers, Rik Hinkle and Don Hodson, both of Redding, Robert Hodson of Colorado, Darrell Hinkle and Donnie Hinkle, both of Waynesville, Ga., and Ray E. Hinkle Jr. of Florida; a sister, Sherry Gann of Redding; and 27 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson.

Anna, IL--Logreta Hinkle, 88, of Anna died Monday, Jan 28, 2008 at Union County Nursing Home in Anna.
She was born Jan. 17, 1920 in Johnson County, Ill., daughter of Irvin and Bertha Anderson Merriman.
She and Harry Hinkle were married March 27, 1948.  He died March 5, 2006.
She was a member of Ware United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Hinkle of Murphysboro, Ill., Thomas Hinkle of Cape Girardeau, MO; a daughter, Patty Pinnon of Wolf Lake, Ill.; two brothers, Don Merriman and Robert Merriman, both of Anna; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro or from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Ware United Pentecost Church.  The funeral will be at 1 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Danny Jones officiating.
Burial will be at Ebenezer Hall Cemetery.



WOODROW W. HINKLE



TAVARES, FL--WOODROW W. HINKLE, 83, 52 Crescent Drive, Tavares, died Tuesday, April 30. Mr. Hinkle was an automotive parts manufacturer.
Born in Jonesboro, Ill., he moved to Central Florida in 1990. He was a member of Faith World Pentecostal Church of Leesburg.
Survivors: wife, Maxine; sons, the Rev. Richard Edward, Clare, Mich., the Rev. David ''Bruce,'' Winter Springs; daughter, Rebecca ''Joy'' Johnston, Mount Dora; sister, Bertha Mayberry, Jonesboro, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

BATON ROUGE, LA–EDWARD EUGENE HOBBS died Friday, July 14, 1995, at Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center, Independence. He was 36, a native of Anna, Ill., and a resident of Independence.
Visiting at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and 8 a.m. until religious services in the chapel at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Rick Le'Mons. Interment in Hillsdale Cemetery, Hillsdale.
Survived by wife, Dianne Robertson Hobbs, Independence; a daughter, Kimberly Renee Hobbs, Vicksburg, Miss.; a stepson, Jimmy Henson Singleton Jr., Roseland; and four sisters, Ann Marie Taylor, Joyce Elaine Palmer, Linda Sue Langston and Lisa Kay Johnson, all of Illinois.

WARREN E. HOFFNER

HOFFNER, WARREN E., 90, of St. Louis, formerly of Dongola, died at 12:25 a.m. Thurs., April 6, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. He was born June 26, 1909, in Dongola, IL, to Ezzard and Margaret (Earnhart) Hoffner. He married Beatrice Hill on June 2, 1928.
He was a member of Union Avenue Christian Church in St. Louis and had been attending Marvin Park United Methodist Church in St. Louis County. He was a retired supervisor with Monsanto Chemical Company for 4 decades. He was a graduate of Dongola High School where he was captain of the basketball team and class president. Following graduation from high school, the depression hit and Warren had to postpone furthering his education until 1947-48 and 1960-78, he completed 5 different technical courses of study at Ritnour Consolidated School District in Overland, MO; also courses in Human Relations Techniques at University of Wisconsin in 1960; training in Sales Analysis Institute at Monsanto Corp in 1961; Development of Leadership Skills at Washington University in 1963; study of Management Institute at University of Wisconsin 1967-68; and a law enforcement education course at St. Johns Citizens Police Academy in 1988. He was a 60-year member of Bridgeton Lodge #80 AF & AM, a 70-year member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a life member of St. Johns High 12 Club #58. He was active in all these organizations until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Beatrice Hoffner; son, Warren (Mary Ann) Hoffner of Daytona Beach, FL; grandchildren, Diane (Glenn Byron) Guenther, Warren 'Bud' (Luann) Hoffner and William Eric 'Bill' (Laura) Hoffner, all of St. Louis; great-grandchildren, Glenn Byron 'G.B.', Heidi Ann, Heather Leigh Guenther and William Eric Hoffner II, Andrew William 'Drew', Amanda Lynn and Kristen Nicole Hoffner; and a sister, Mimie Wilkenson of Canton, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Hoffner.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Sat., April 8, at CRAIN Funeral Home in Dongola, with Rev. Dare Aden officiating. Interment American Legion Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sat. at the funeral home.

HOWARD HOLCOMB



Howard Holcomb, 68, passed away Friday Aug 21, 1992 at 3:20 p.m. at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born June 7, 1924, in Ullin, the son of Russell and Edith Read Holcomb.
He was married Jan. 17, 1948 to Betty Karraker.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Anna, a Veteran of WWII, a member of the Anna Kiwanis Club, and of the Knights of Columbus Council 6968.  He was the retired owner and operator of Holcomb Machine Works in Anna.
He is survived by his wife Betty, of Anna; one daughter, Babette Holcomb of Anna; his son and daughter in-law Kevin and Dottie Holcomb of Cobden; one grandson, Derek, and one granddaughter Katrina, both of Cobden, his sister, Charlotte Kraatz of Anna; five nephews, Ronald Holcomb of Anna, Barry and James Holcomb, both of Dongola, John Kraatz of Anna, and Paul Kraatz of Jonesboro.
The funeral mass for Howard Holcomb will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church in Anna, with Father Tom Miller officiating. Interment wil be made in the Dongola American Legion Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of the VFW.  Friends may call at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna after 5 p.m. today. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Crain Funeral Home.

RONALD L. HOLCOMB



 Ronald L. Holcomb, age 57, of Anna died at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2002 at Marion Memorial Hosptal in Marion.
He was born on December 15,1944, in Waynesville, MO., to Leo and Maxine Holcomb. He married Elizabeth Ross on August 6, 1994.
He worked for the past 28 years as Operations Manager for Holcomb Welding. Prior to that he had worked at Catepillar in Aurora. He was a member of the American Welding Society. He served his country during peacetime and participated in activities at the VFW.
He is survived by his wife Betsy, of Anna; his mother, Maxine Holcomb Carstens of Anna; two brothers, Barry (Teresa) Holcomb and Jim (Debra) Holcomb, both of Dongola, and five cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services for Ronald L. Holcomb will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery with full military honors by the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 VFW. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday October 22 at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna. Crain Funeral Home in Anna are in charge of the arrangements.

MARY A. HOLDERFIELD

Cobden, IL--Mary Anita Holderfield, 81, of Cobden died Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Union County Hospital in Anna, IL.
She was born Oct. 25, 1925 in Cobden, daughter of Leonard H. and Sarah Peterman Brown.
Holderfield retired from the dietary department at Union County Hospital. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Cobden, and Ladies Auxiliary of Anna Moose Lodge 1346.
Survivors include two sons, John and Charles Dirden of Anna; two sisters, Kay Baggett of Centralia, IL, Helen Baxter of Kaiser, MO; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to service time Friday at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2007 at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Mixen officiating.  Burial will be in Anna City Cemetery.


F. M. HOLFHOUFER




F.M. Holfhoufer, 83, of Anna died Sunday night in the City Care Center at Anna.  He was born on Aug. 2, 1891, in Union County to Henry A. and Nancy Hess Holfhoufer.  He was married to Nellie Leyerle on Sept. 10, 1913. 
Mr. Holfhoufer was a member of the Anna Heights Baptist Church. 
Survivors include his wife of Anna; a son, Jack of Bloomington, Minn.; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Lois Billow of Dongola; and other relatives. 
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Magdalene Whiteside.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Crain Funeral Home in Anna.

CATHERINE J. HORNER



Mrs. Catherine J. Horner was born at Knoxville, Tenn., November 18, 1846 and died at her home in this city July 16, 1930, at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 28 days.
She came to Illinois with her parents from Knoxville when she was nine years of age, and in 1867 was married to Joseph Horner, who died 11 years ago.  After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Horner moved to a farm, four miles east of Anna, where they lived until the fall of 1900, when they moved to Anna where she resided until her death.
To this union five children were born, three of whom died in infancy.  the two surviving children are:  Mrs. J. J. Corzine and Mrs. J. C. Kelley of this city.  She is also survived by one forster daughter, Mrs. Josie cover of East St. Louis, Ill., and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church last Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. John Ferrill of Christopher, Ill., and interment was made in Anna Cemetery.
Mrs. Horner was a woman of the old time type, a real homemaker and a loving, devoted mother.  She was baptized into the fellowship of Big Creek Baptist church many years, and in 1908 transferred her membership to the Frist Baptist Church of Anna, and has always been a faithful member and regular attendant as long as her health permitted.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were:  Mrs. Josie Cover, Mr. and Mrs. V. H. Boyd and daughter, Louise of East St. Louis, Mr. Will Horner of Chester and Mrs. Hattie Horner of Mounds.

MARVIN B. HOWELL



Dongola, Ill.--Marvin B. Howell of Dongola, celebrated his 88th birthday with his Savior Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna, Ill.
Marvin was born Feb. 12, 1920 to William and Edna Howell in Goreville, Ill.
He attended school in Anna.  Marvin served his country from 1942 through 1945 in the 38th Calvary Reconnaissance Troop Mechanized and was awarded several medals including the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.  
He was known on the bluegrass festival circuit as the man who knew more songs than anyone else.
Marvin married Opal Owens on June 28, 1943 in Charleston, Mo., and she preceded him in death Feb. 25, 2006.
He is survived by a daughter, Carmen Brown and husband Michael of Cordova, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Mandy Pittman and husband Justin of Minneapolis; a grandson, Michael Donn Brown II of Cordova; a sister, Golda Brown of Anna; four nieces, seven nephews; and a loving church family at Landmark Pentecostal Church.
His parents, his wife, a son, Jack, a granddaughter, Hillary, a brother and four sisters preceded Marvin in death.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Landmark Pentecostal Church in Anna with Michael Brown and Derick Cummins officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ill.
Burial will be in Dongola American Legion Cemetery.  Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 Anna VFW will conduct military rites at the graveside.
Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.



PAUL F. HUDGENS



Funeral services for Paul F. Hudgens 90, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. The Revs. Michael Frantz and Robert Wisehart will officiate.
Born Oct. 18, 1908, in Union County, Ill., to William T. and Rocelia (nee Benedict) Hudgens, he died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
In 1936, Mr. Hudgens founded the Elgin Sheet Metal Company and he was a former member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union. Upon his retirement, he resided in southern Illinois for 23 years before returning to Elgin. Paul was active in community affairs, including serving on the Board of Education for Consolidated District 17. He was also a member of the Cobden Lions Club, an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Cobden, and a member of First Baptist Church of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Ethel Hudgens; daughter, Pamela (Gerald) Koch of St. Charles, Mo.; sons, Phillip (Patricia) Hudgens of Baja, Calif., Paul (Sarah) Hudgens of Elgin and Patrick (Deborah) Hudgens of Elgin; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne and Stanley Hudgens, both of Marion, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd, Harvey and Albert Hudgens; and sisters, Helen Hudgens, Nellie Lindsey, Maida Goddard, Minnie Popham and Orpha McAlpin.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Mount Hebron Cemetery, 1370 Mount Hebron Road, Makanda, IL 62958.

MRS. ALICE HUMES


Mrs. Alice Viola Humes was born February 22, 1865 at Dongola, Ill., and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Rader, of Jacksonville, Ill., January 27, 1938 at the age of 72 years, 11 months, 5 days.
She leaves one brother, the Rev. E. M. Barringer of Chatham, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Anarantha Thompson of Anna, Mrs. Blanch Franz, Kenilworth, Ill., Mrs. Roxie Peeler, Anna, and Mrs. Yula Rader, Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; and a host of friends and neighbors.
Two children, Edith and Walter, preceded her in death.
Under the ministry of Rev. C. R. Wade, Mrs. Humes united with the Anna M. E. Church, where she attended and brought up her children.  (This transfer of membership was on January 14, 1917.)
For the last four years Mrs. Humes made her home in Jacksonville with her daughter.  The active part of her life was spent in Anna.  She lived as she felt others ought to live and gave herself completely for her children.

MRS. JEWELL SMITHEY HUNTER

JONESBORO -- Mrs. Jewell Hunter, 100, died at 12:48 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, in Union County Hospital in Anna.
She was born Nov. 18, 1911, in Elco, the daughter of Henry and Drucilla Marshlee Baldwin Smithey.
She married Morris Hunter on April 8, 1931, in Pulaski County. He preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1989.
Jewell is survived by her two children, Donna Jean Hancock of Scottdale, Ga., and Karol (Deborah) Hunter of Stonefort; seven grandchildren, Kerry Don Hunter of Du Quoin, Lisa Hunter (Wayne) Downs of Salem, Kyle David (Laura) Hunter of Cape Girardeau, Tania Ann (John) Davis of Auburn, Ga., Sue Ellen (John) Green of Charleston, S.C., Michael Hunter of Jonesboro, and Dr. Pamela Hunter-Reach and Dr. Brian Reach of Anna; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morris; one son, Donald Hunter; thirteen brothers and sisters; two daughters-in-law, Elaine Hunter and Charlene Hunter Powles; one son-in -law, Lawrence Hancock; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Downs and Benjamin Reach.
Jewell was a member of First Baptist Church in Tamms for many years.
Services for Mrs. Jewell Hunter will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with Pastor David Eidson officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Feb.2, at the funeral home.

RANDLES T. HUSTON



Venice, FL–RANDLES T. HUSTON, 74, Venice, died Oct. 17, 1999.
He was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Wolf Lake, Ill., and came to Venice 44 years ago from Massillon, Ohio. He retired as a television repairman for Huston's Television. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Carmela Lambert; a sister, Emma Ulbright; four brothers, Robert, James, Masel and Fonzy; and a granddaughter.
The service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ewing Funeral Home. Burial will be in Jesse Knight Memorial Cemetery in Nokomis.

RUBY M. HUTCHISON

Anna, IL.--Ruby M. Hutchison, 90, of Anna died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at Jonesboro Rehab and Healthcare Center.
She was born Dec. 26, 1916 in Alto Pass, IL, daughter of Albert and Mary Smith Stone. She married Homer Leon Walrond Oct. 29, 1949; he died Feb 17, 1984.  She then married Charlie Hutchison on Sept. 20, 1986; he died on July 6, 1993.
Hutchison worked at the Florsheim Shoe Factory for 35 years.  She attended the First Baptist Church of Anna.
Survivors include a son, Richard Ring of Wolf Lake, IL; two sisters; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers and a great-grandson.
Visitation will be l p.m. Monday at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna.
Funeral is at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Miller officiating.  Interment will be in Big Creek Cemetery, near Anna.



MARGARET J. HUTSON



PORTLAND, IN--MARGARET J. HUTSON, 91, died Thursday at home. Born in Anna, Ill., she was co-owner of H&H Bakery in Portland and worked for Jay Garment for 18 years.
Her husband, Albert, died in 1956.
Surviving are a daughter, Pat Elick of Portland; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland. Calling from 3 to 8 p.m. today.
Burial in Center Cemetery, Portland.
