Frances Elizabeth Johnson

Frances Elizabeth Johnson was born in Virginia July 15th, 1844, daughter of John and Martha (Yancey) Elam.  She departed this life January 12, 1910 (at her home in Goreville, IL).
She was married to Burton Socratese Johnson July 25th, 1859.  To this union was born eleven children, six sons and five daughters.
She professed faith in Christ at an early age and remained a loyal follower of Christ, always trusting in his blessed promise for an heirship in his glorious kingdom.  Her life, though not without its sorrows, was as the shining day, that reflects its fullest light at evening tide. The patience with which she bore the cares of this life will long shine as a beacon light in guiding others over the stony path of duty.  Her health had been giving away for the past four years, and her last illness was of only two weeks duration.  The end was quiet and peaceful, and when the summons came, it found her ready to join that inumerable throng that moves to the pale realms of shade.  She was a devoted wife, a good neighbor, and a loving and sacrificing mother.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Larken Toler.  Her remains were laid to rest in the Ebenezer Cemetery near Lick Creek.
A husband and seven children still survive to mourn her departure.  (Surviving children include:  Curtis Johnson, Nancy Roberts, Sarah Roberts, Martha Bottom, William Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, and Jennie Jones.)
For mother has gone to that far off land,
From which no traveler returns,
To that land of the happy Angelic pure,
In the which, we long to sojourn.
