MAG TOLER MANNING



    Mrs. Mag Manning, 93, of Dongola, died Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 1991 at her home in Dongola.
    She was born on Aug. 28, 1898, near Dongola, the daughter of Samuel and Lelian Smiddy Toler.
    She married Arnie Manning on Jan. 20, 1917, and he preceded her in death on May 17, 1976.
    She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dongola.
    She is survived by a daughter, Carmen Henderson of Dongola; two sons, William H. Manning of St. Louis and Jack Manning of Dongola; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Doc Toler of Dongola.
    Funeral services were Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola with the Rev. Dare Aden officiating.  Interment was in the Dongola American Legion Cemetery.
    Crain Funeral Home in Dongola was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Manus

 Elizabeth "Betty" Manus, 89, of Buncombe died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, at the Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis, Ill.
She was born Sept. 4, 1917, at Cobden, Ill., daughter of John and Lydia Treece Haire. She and Raymond E. Manus were married May 23, 1937, at Buncombe. He died May 25, 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Elkins of Buncombe; four sisters, Vera Colboth of Anna, Ill., Maye Stout and Vaye Eaves of Lick Creek, Ill., Erma Blankenship of Huntington, W.Va.; three brothers, Dick Haire of Porter, Ind., Charlie Haire of Anna, Lowell Haire of St. Charles, Ill.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a a grandson and two brothers.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna today after 6 p.m. and on Sunday until the funeral hour.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with pastor Dee Armes officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery at Lick Creek.

Wayne Manus

 Wayne "Doc" Manus, 84, of Anna died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
He was born July 24, 1921, at Lick Creek, Ill., son of George Henry and Mary Etta Gurley Manus. He and Elva Mae Davis were married July 5, 1940, in Jackson.
He was a livestock dealer most of his life. He worked at Goddard's Feed Store many years, and later with Texas Eastern Corp. He served on the Union County Board of Commissioners from 1986 to 1994, and was a former member of Lick Creek School Board.
He was a member of Union Masonic Lodge 627 AF&AM at Lick Creek, Anna Masonic Lodge 520 AF&AM and Order of Eastern Star in Anna.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Stearns of Lick Creek, Jo Cunningham of Buncombe, Ill.; four sisters, Virginia Lence of Lick Creek, Mellie Karraker of Anna, Nellie Childers of Goreville, Ill., Emma Williams of Grand Chain, Ill.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 5 p.m. Saturday. A Masonic service will be held at 7.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Mixen officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery at Lick Creek.

Virgil M. Marks

Virgil M. Marks, 105, of Murphysboro, and formerly of Union County, died at 10:30p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at his home.
He was born on March 17, 1894, in Alto Pass, the son of Thomas & Jane (Randolph) Marks.
He married Gussie Messamore in July 1922 in Murphysboro. She preceded him in death in November 1982.
Mr. Marks was retired from the water works department with the Illinois Central Railroad. He was a member of Murdale Baptist Church and VFW Post 7190 in Murphysboro.
Mr. Marks was a veteran of World War I and served in the infantry. He was the oldest living veteran in the State of Illinois. In 1999, he received France's highest honor, the Medal of Valor, and was knighted for fighting for the freedom of France during World War I.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Hand of Murphysboro; two grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dewey; a stepson; a stepdaughter; three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were at 11a.m. Saturday at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Burial was in the Alto Pass Cemetery.
Military honors were conducted at the grave by Murphysboro American Legion Post 127, Murphysboro VFW Post 7190, VFW Post 2605 of Carbondale and Jackson County DAV Chapter 26.


Alice L. Martin

Alice L. Martin, 98, of Anna died Friday, May 5, 2006, at City Care Center in Anna.
She was born May 11, 1907, at Saratoga, Ill., daughter of George and Nancy Russell Lence. She and Mack Martin were married Nov. 2, 1927. He died June 24, 1960.
She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and was retired from Florsheim Shoe Co. in Anna.
Survivors include a son, Donald Martin of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; a daughter, Linda Darling of Oak Ridge, N.C.; two sisters, Sibyl Miller and Kathleen Winn, both of Anna; a brother, Frank Lence of Anna; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Doug Bridgeman officiating. Interment will be in Anna Cemetery.



DONALD DEAN MARTIN



Anna, Ill.--Donald Dean Martin, 73, of Anna died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born Dec 24, 1934 in Anna, son of Mack and Alice Lence Martin.  He and Imogene Rogers Kelley were married Dec. 20, 2003 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, a veteran of the U. S. Army and was an office manager with Ameren CIPS for more than 38 years.
Martin is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kim Martin of Lexington, Ky, and Melanie White of Louisville, Ky; a son, Jeff Martin of Georgetown, Ky; two step children, Steve Kelley of St. Louis and Terri Kelley Isom of Anna; a sister, Linda Darling of Anna; four grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and three great-step-granddaughters.'
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Doug Bridgeman officiating.  Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery.

BESSIE MATHIS



    Bessie Ann Mathis, 85, of Herrin and formerly of Anna, died at 9:27 a.m. Dec. 14, 1990, at Herrin Hospital.
    She was born on Jan 25, 1905, in Union County, the daughter of Ben and Beulah Clark Toler.
    She married Herbert Mathis in July 1944.  Mr. Mathis preceded her in death in 1984.
    Survivors include three daughters, Sue Procell of Herrin, Iola Baker of Texas and Pat Smith of Sparta; a son, Ralph Martin of Vienna; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; five sisters, Ada Boie of Anna, Opal Quigley, Lucille Toler, Helen Toler and Martha Calloway, all of Kankakee; other relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, by three brothers, one sister, and one son.
    Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Sunday at VanNatta Funeral Home in Herrin.  Burial was in the Anna Cemetery.

HAROLD C. MAY

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO--HAROLD C. MAY, 78, died Nov. 1, 1998, at a local care center. He was a retired postal worker. Mr. May was born June 4, 1920, in Dongola, Ill.
He is survived by a sister, Marie Blunt.

BEVERLY MAYBERRY



Jonesboro, Ill.--Beverly Mayberry, 50, of Jonesboro died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at her home.
She was born March 4, 1958 in Anna, Ill., daughter of Holly E. and Ruby Garrett Treece.  She and Wayne E. Mayberry were married Sept. 12, 1975 near Jonesboro.
Mayberry attended Cornerstone Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Cody Mayberry of Jonesboro; a daughter, Patricia Prater of Reno, Nev; and two brothers, Jack and Danny Treece of Jonesboro.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Revs. Stephen Clardy and Roger Moore officiating.  Burial will be in Valley Mission Cemetery.

LOREN MAYBERRY

Pontotoc, MS--Loren Mayberry was born 1924 in Reynoldsville, IL and passed away March 15, 2005 at the Pontotoc Extended Care Unit.
Loren was a corporal in the 380th Engineering Battalion of the United States Army during World War II. He served two tours from 1943 to 1947. He was in the International Union of Operating Engineers in Illinois and Arizona. He retired from Apec Blacktopping in Pontotoc in 1986. Loren's greatest passion in life was to travel. Even though he lived exclusively in Pontotoc from 1982-93, he spent his last years mostly traveling between Illinois, Alabama and Mississippi, where he had many friends and loved ones.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Loren Mayberry Sr. and Esther Smith Mayberry both of Jonesboro, IL.
He is survived by a sister, Lorene Benefield of Jonesboro, IL and family; three daughters, Doris (Dave) White of Eugene, OR, Cheryl Rae (Tom) Tinkes of Antioch, IL and Lori (Ted) McKnight of Pontotoc, MS; he had three step-sons from his marriage to Linda Mayberry; Barry Boone of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Garry Boone of Pontotoc, MS and Terry (Joan) Boone of Winthrop Harbor, IL; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He will be buried at Mission Valley Cemetery in Jonesboro, IL on March 24, 2005.

CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH MEDLIN

FUNERAL HELD FOR MRS. J.W. MEDLIN

Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Medlin were held at 2:00 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, September 22, 1937, at the Buncombe M. E. Church, Rev H. L. McGill, pastor of the Mt. Moriah Lutheran church of Anna, was in charge of the services. Pall bearers were the three sons, John, George, and Charles Medlin, two grandsons, Joe and Mignon Medlin, and a grandson-in-law, Kermit Archibald. Interment followed in the Anna Cemetery.
The many friends and relatives assembled for the funeral and the numerous floral offerings were some measure of the high esteem in which Mrs. Medlin was held, both in this community and among her former neighbors in Union county. She had lived at Buncombe since 1903.
Charlotte Elizabeth Medlin was born November 1, 1856, departed this life at her home in Buncombe, on September 19, 1937, at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 19 days. She was a daughter of John W. and Marguerite Bostian, both deceased, of Anna, and a sister of the late Julius Bostian of the Davis community in Union county.
She was united in marriage with J. W. Medlin on February 27, 1879, their companionship extending over a period of more than 58 years. Five children were born to them; Paul, who preceeded his mother in death; Ada, wife of Harvey Grinnell of Portland, Oregon; John W. Medlin of Tamms; George A. Medlin of West Frankfort; and Charles E. Medlin of West Vienna. Also surviving are the aged husband, eight grand-children and one great-grandchild.
She united with the Mt. Moriah church of Anna in the year 1884, a church in which the pastor, Rev. H. L. McGill, who so reverently officiated at her funeral, has served continuously for 42 years.

ELIZABETH MEDLIN



Mrs. Elizabeth Medlin, aged 80 years, died at her home in this city (Anna) Sunday (September 15, 1912). She was born at Carrollton, Ky. She was first married to Marion Millis, who died in the army in 1861. In 1871 she married John Medlin, long since deceased. Four children, Mrs. W.W. Williams, Frank Millis, and Wade and Thomas Medlin survive her. The funeral was conducted Monday at Trinity church by Rev. H.C. Stephan. Mrs Medlin was a good christian woman, devoted to her children and kind to her neighbors.

JOHN  W. MEDLIN



John W. Medlin, 77 years old, died at his home in this city (Anna) Sunday, October 11, (1908). He was blind and had been in feeble health for about three years. He is survived by his wife and four children. He lived a good and useful life. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Trinity church, followed by interment in Trinity cemetery.

JOHN WILLIAM MEDLIN

J. W. Medlin Called at 84

    The death of "Uncle Bill" Medlin, long a respected resident of Buncombe, occurred Sept. 28, 1938, at West Frankfort. For many years before his retirement he was employed in the hardware and lumber business of the late J. B. Suit at Buncombe and thus became quite widely known.
    Mr. Medlin was a man worthy of the deepest trust and it is probable that throughout all the years of his active life about Buncombe he was at peace and on the best of terms with everyone in the community. The following brief obituary was furnished.
    John William Medlin was born November 29, 1853, near Anna, Ill. He passed away at the home of his son, George A. Medlin, at West Frankfort, Ill, on September 28, 1938, at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 29 days.
    On February 27, 1879, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Bostian, who on September 19, 1937, preceded him in death. To this union 5 children were born: Paul, who passed away when ten years old; John W. Medlin of Tamms; Ada Grinnel of Portland, Ore.; George A. Medlin of West Frankfort; and Charles E. Medlin of Arthur. Six grandchildren and one great grandson also survive him.
    His early life and into middle age were spent near Anna. He moved to near Buncombe in 1903 and lived in that community until one year ago when he came to make his home with his son, George at West Frankfort.
    Funeral services were held from the residence by Rev. Miles of the First Baptist church of West Frankfort and interment followed in the Anna (Illinois) Cemetery.

PATSY F. MEDLIN



Patsy F. (Pat) Medlin, age 63, of Dongola, died at 6:42AM, Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Union County Long Term Care Facility in Anna.
She was born on September 2, 1945 to Delmas C. and Fern I. (Schluter) McIntosh. She married Ronnie J. Medlin on June 15, 1963 in the First Lutheran Church in Dongola. He survives her.
She was a life member of the First Lutheran Church of Dongola. She worked for many years as a medical secretary for Doctor William H. Whiting of Anna. After Dr. Whiting’s retirement, Pat was employed for a short time at Shawnee Community College and also the First State Bank of Dongola until her illness forced her to retire.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie of Dongola; 3 daughters, Rhonna C. Medlin of Dongola, Amie K. Ury of Anna and Amanda J. (James T) Barnes of Benton, KY; 1 granddaughter, Aniston J. Barnes of Benton, KY;
1 sister, Judy (Don) Riggin of Herrin;
1 brother, Mike (Debbie) McIntosh of Harrisburg; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Patsy F. Medlin will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the First Lutheran Church of Dongola with Rev. Timothy Heinecke officiating. Interment will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 5:00 PM, Friday, December 12, 2008 at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola and after 10:00AM, Saturday, December 13, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Dongola.

BOBBY DEAN MENEES



Anna, Ill.--Bobby Dean Menees, 69, of Houma, La., formerly of Anna, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 at Chabert Medical Center in Houma.
Menees was born June 5, 1938 in Union County, Ill., son of Verdus and Clara Mae Menees.
He worked as a housekeeper on an ocean liner.
Survivors include his mother of Anna; and a sister, Imogene Cooley of Mount Vernon, Ill.  
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Anna/Jonesboro.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Hertenstein officiating.
Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.

ROGER KENT MENEES



LEESBURG, FL--ROGER KENT MENEES, 46, licensed practical nurse --MR. MENEES, 213 N. Oakland St., Leesburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 24. He was a nurse. Born in Anna, Ill., he moved to Central Florida in 1951. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors: daughters, Lisa Locher, Leesburg, Anna Jackson, Tavares; parents, Malcolm and Agnes Menees, Leesburg; sister, Jeannie Smith, Mount Dora; two grandchildren.

Survivors include her granddaughter and husband, Lorrie and Bruce Erusha, three great-grandchildren, Merideth Ann, John Carl and Thomas Richard Andrew Erusha, and daughter-in-law, Margaret "Bettie" Merideth, all of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Helen Hamilton of Anna, Ill., and Alma Medlen and husband Charles of Carterville, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary Basler; her husband; two sons, John and Richard Merideth; a grandson, Thomas; four brothers, Raymond, Herbert, Alfred and Roy Basler; and a sister, Margaret Brumleve.
Born July 9, 1906, in Cobden, Ill., she received her registered nursing degree from St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, Ill. Frances married Dr. John A. Merideth on June 16, 1931, in East St. Louis. He died Sept. 27, 1956.

MADGE MILLER



    DONGOLA, IL – Madge Miller, 99, of Ullin, formerly of Dongola, died at midnight Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, in Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
    Madge was born April 23, 1904, in Dongola, the daughter of William and Melissa (Hill) Toler.  She married Russell Calvin in 1921, and he died in an automobile accident when their son was 10 years old.
    She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dongola and taught Sunday school for 50 years.  She was also very active in mission work.  She was a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years.  She had worked eight years for the shoe factory.  She also worked as a telephone operator at Scott Air Force Base.  She moved to Ullin in 1998 to live at Cache Valley Apartments.
    She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ernestine Vincent Calvin of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Michael Calvin of Atlanta, Ga., Odette Calvin and Suzette Parsons, both of Scottsdale and Stanley Calvin of Tempe, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, son, Lee “Shrimp” Calvin, in 1994, and her parents.
    Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, with the Rev. Lucien Bozarth officiating.  Interment will be in the American Legion cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
    Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church for Lottie Moon Mission Offering.

Renia Miller

 The funeral for Renia Miller, formerly of Olmsted, Ill., will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin. The Rev. Carl H. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery.
Friends may call at the chapel from 2 to 6 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Tuesday.
Renia, 92, of Rochester Hills, Mich., died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at the Crittenton Medical Center in Rochester Hills, Mich.
She was born Oct. 9, 1910, daughter of Henry and Lilly Kissman Richards. She married Roy E. Miller, who died Oct. 27, 1972.
Survivors include three daughters, Rosalie Filed of Fwortz Creek, Mich., Alice Miller and Gloria Miller, both of Rochester Hills, Mich.; one son, Delbert Miller of Oakdale, Calif.; two sisters, Elizabeth Stortz of Aurora, Ill., and Merida Temke of Ullin; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM L. MILLER



ANNA - William F. "Bill" Miller, 77, died at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, in St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Anna; three children, Mike Miller and wife, Dale, of Buncombe, Vicki Curry and husband, Butch, of Cookeville, Tenn., and Mitch Miller and wife, Doris, of Anna; eight grandchildren, Tina, Missy, J.R., Kim, Dusty, Ellie, Tracy and Chris; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, in United Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Paul Tirey officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery near Lick Creek. Robert J. Minton

 Robert J. "Bob" Minton, 79, of Marion, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
He was born in Alto Pass on Dec. 16, 1926, the son of Lewis B. Sr. and Pearl May (Johns) Minton.
He attended the Alto Pass school system and was a graduate of Alto Pass High School. Bob, as he was known by many, answered the call of the nation by serving during World War II in the United States Army aboard a hospital ship traveling between the United States and France. After his tour of duty was fulfilled, he was honorably discharged in November 1946.
He was united in marriage to June Smith on Dec. 2, 1967, in Marion. Together they shared nearly 39 years of marriage.
Bob worked as a journeyman lineman mainly in highline construction field. During his career he had worked for several of the highline companies in the area.
His church membership was with Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna. His other memberships include being life member of Marion Elks BPOE 800, where he was honored as Elk of the Year, life member of Cairo Masonic Lodge 237 for 54 years, 58-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 702, life member of the Southern Illinois Bass Busters Association and life member of Heyde-Pillow VFW Post 1301 in Marion.
He is survived by his wife, June Minton of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa M. and Jim Whitehead of Jonesboro; grandsons, Brian J. Whitehead and Alan M. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Whiteside and her husband, George; brother, Lewis B. Minton Jr. and his wife, Mary; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements for Robert J. 'Bob' Minton have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, located at 900 N. Court Street in Marion. Visitation will be between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the funeral home. Following the time of visitation, family and friends will leave Marion for the graveside committal service at 2 p.m. in Alto Pass Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Hertenstein presiding. Those wishing to attend the graveside committal service only should gather at the cemetery prior to the time of the service at 2 p.m.

KENNETH H. MORRIS



St. Charles, IL--KENNETH H. MORRIS, 83, of St. Charles, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Delnor-Community Hospital, Geneva. IL.
He was born March 16, 1914, in Anna, Ill.
Mr. Morris was a lifetime member of the St. Charles Sportsman Club and a member of the Shabbona Lake Sportsman Club.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cornelia "Connie" Morris; a daughter Paula (Matt) Marzuki of Hinckley, IL; a son Randall (Barbara) Morris of Elgin, IL; two grandchildren, Angela Marzuki of Hinckley and Sherry Marzuki of Naperville, IL; a sister Jean Henderson of Anna; and a half-brother Wade Morris of Monticello, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Stella Morris and a brother Andrew.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Crain Funeral Home, 135 W. Vienna St., Anna. Burial will be at the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery in Lick Creek, Ill.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles, and Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna.

EDITH MOSELEY



Alto Pass--EDITH TUFF MOSELEY, 91, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 in Tampa, Fla., after a short illness.  She was born Nov. 20, 1918 outside of Rugby, N. D., to William Hamilton and Eileen (Carl) Tuff.  She was one of 12 children.
She graduated from St. Luke Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, N. D.  She was active in the Red Cross and when World War II began she was called up to serve in the Army Nurse Corps.  She was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, and toward the end of World War II was sent overseas to France.  After completing her service as an Army nurse, she attended University of Colorado, where she met and married Odell Moseley from Alto Pass, Ill.  She received a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1949.
They settled in Champaign where Edie taught in one of the first LPN programs in the state.  They raised two daughters in Champaign and moved to Jonesboro in 1971.  Mrs. Moseley was employed as a nursing supervisor at the VA Medical Center in Marion until her retirement from nursing in 1981.
She remained active in the community and participated in Red Cross blood drives in the area.  She and Odell moved to Alto Pass in 1978 where they were active members of First Baptist Church of Alto Pass.
She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Smith (Nick) of Tampa, Fla., and Jennifer Sims of Louisville, Ky.; her four grandchildren, Nicholas Smith of Las Vegas, Brian Smith of Tampa, Patrick Sims and Danielle Sims of Louisville; brothers, Robbie and Davie; and sisters, Gert, Dorie and Kay.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church of Alto Pass, with Sam White officiating.  Burial will be at Alto Pass Cemetery.  Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at the church.
Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HENRIETTA MOSES


NEW PORT RICHEY, FL--HENRIETTA MOSES, 60, of New Port Richey, died Sunday (Aug. 30, 1987) at the National Health Care Center, Hudson. Born in Jonesboro, Ill., she came here 22 years ago from East St. Louis, Ill.
Survivors include three sons, Michael and Ronald Wheatley and Paul Schlenker, all of Illinois; a daughter, Debbie Walter, Holiday; a sister, Margaret Johnson, Merritt Island, and a grandchild. Padgett Funeral Home, Holiday.

BEULAH MAE MOWERY



ANNA, IL - BEULAH MAE MOWERY, 100, departed this life at 1 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, in City Care Center in Anna.
She was born May 21, 1908, in Balcom, the daughter of Charles and Ora Brown Lingle. She married Glenn A. Mowery on July 23, 1927. He preceded her in death May 22, 1987.
Beulah is survived by a son, Wayman and wife, Betty Mowery, of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Glenna Watkins and Pauline Musgrave, both of Anna; daughter-in-law, Elois Mowery; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 27 great great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn A. Mowery; her beloved son, Leroy; a grandson, Shawn Watkins; a great-grandson, Kyle Mowery; a great-great-grandson, Dakota Harris; a son-in-law, Vernon Watkins; and stepgreat-grandson, Jorden Horner.
Beulah was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nachusa. She was a homemaker all her life.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, in St. John Lutheran Church in Dongola, with the Rev. Tim Heinecke officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm. today at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Melba Mowery

 Melba F. Mowery, 77, of Memphis, Tenn., died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven, Miss.
She was born Jan. 31, 1924, in Fulton, Ky., daughter of Tony and Myrtle Corbett. She and Laddie Mowery were married Sept. 16, 1941. He died May 28, 1996.
Melba retired as a manager at Little Pigs Barbeque Restaurant and TOPS in Memphis. She was formerly of Dongola and Cairo, Ill.
Survivors include three sons, David Mowery of Dallas, Texas, James Mowery of Horn Lake, Miss., Judd Mowery of Troy, Ind.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola from 6-9 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Judd Mowery officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.



GENE MULL


ANNA, IL–GENE MULL, 84, of Anna, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born on January 15, 1928 in Anna the son of Jack and Reba (Clutts) Mull. 
He served our country honorably during World War II in the Navy. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Anna Moose Lodge. He worked as an over the road truck driver. Gene was a father and saint to everyone he met.
He is survived by his daughter, Geniene Mull  (Stanley Hanson) Anastasi of Anna; 4 sons, Jeff (Lisa) Mull, Cliff Mull all of Anna, Danny Mull of Muncie, Indiana and Mike Mull of St. Louis, Missouri;1 step-son, Ralph Wagner of Anna; 1 step-daughter, Brenda Bradshaw of Anna; 8 grandchildren, Nathaniel Fox, Eian Mull, Anthony Mull, Trista Mull, Trevyn Davis, Christina Davis, Stephanie King and Brianna Mull; 2 great-grandchildren, Angel Fox and Cooper Mull; 1 aunt, Dorothy (Bell) Hubbs of Anna; best friend, Sheila May Hoyle of Cobden; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Nancy Mull, grandson, Scotty King, sister, Donna King and companion Phyllis Webb.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 12-3PM at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be at 3PM on March 7, 2012 at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro with Pastor Glen Aulgur officiating.  Interment will follow in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery with full military honors.

Clairus Mullins

Clairus Mullins, 88, of Anna died at 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Carbondale, Ill.

She was born Dec. 27, 1915, in Simpson, Ill., daughter of Charlie and Grace Menees Williams. She and Sidney Mullins were married Nov. 20, 1941. He died July 8, 1984.
She had been a secretary in the Union County area, retiring from Anna Mental Health Center. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anna and its Be Square Sunday school class.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Mullins of Anna; three stepdaughters, Sue Tomme, Jane Guilbeau and Pat Martin; and nine step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and beginning at noon Saturday at the United Methodist Church.

Lacon, IL --VIVIAN R. MURPHY, 82, of Lacon died Thursday, May 28, 1992, at Parkhill Medical Complex in Chillicothe.
Born March 17, 1910, near Mounds to Ira Monroe and Eva Catherine Scurlock Robinson, she married William Paul Murphy. He survives in Lacon. One sister preceded her in death.
She was a member of Lacon Congregational United Church of Christ.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at American Legion Cemetery, near Dongola. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at her church. The Rev. Katherine L. Harding will officiate.

Larry L. Musgraves

 Larry L. Musgraves, 55, of Wolf Lake died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Union County Hospital.
He was born Feb. 12, 1948, in Anna, Ill., son of Dennis and Beulah Johns Musgraves.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda; a son; a daughter and one sister, Betty Ann.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Kelley Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455, Anna VFW.

Alto Pass, IL--Kay Myers, 66, of Alto Pass died Monday, Jan 7, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 2, 1942 at Mill Creek, IL, daughter of Carl "Doc" and Fay Vick Cruse.  She and Paul Ray Myers were married May 14, 1967 in Anna, IL.  He died July 3, 1996.
Formerly of Anna, she was a 1959 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro High School.  She attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
Myers had been a medical indexer with Mosby Publishing Co., and retired as a clerk and receptionist from Union County Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Michael Myers of Alto Pass; a daughter, Vicki Myers of Alto Pass; two sisters, Carolyn Cruse-Swope and Carlene Baumheuter of Cahokia, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Thursday at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Alto Pass.
The funeral will be at noon Thursday, (Jan. 10, 2008) at the funeral home, with the Rev. Davy Miller officiating.  Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery.
