![]() The body of Mrs. Edith Kelley
Runquist, who was killed near Nisqually, Washington in an auto
accident, reached Jonesboro Sunday at noon. The funeral services
were conducted at the Methodist church Monday morning by Rev. Carlton
R. Wade. Burial in St. John's cemetery.
Mrs. Runquist was Miss Edith Kelley of this city and was married to Charles Runquist of Tacoma, whom she met while employed in an insane asylum at Fort Stellacoon. Concerning the accident a Tacoma newspaper says: "Two persons were killed and the third probably fatally injured when the automobile in which they were riding crashed through the bridge railing and plunged 25 feet below onto the Northern Pacific railroad tracks near Nisqually Station yesterday morning about 4 o'clock. The dead are frank Pridmore, driver of the car, and Mrs. Chas Runquist of Stellacoon. Mrs. Nellie Pridmore is badly injured and death is expected. The fourth occupant, chas Runquist, escaped with slight bruises. The party were returning from a fishing trip and a heavy rain was falling. The accident was caused by the skidding of the front wheels. The dead and injured were brought to Tacoma on the Northern Pacific." Rev. Mr. Wade paid a sincere tribute to the character of the young woman in his remarks. She had many friends at the hospital here where she had worked before going west and they, with the bereft mother, Mrs. Alice Hume, and sister, Miss Roxie, who are not employed at the Anna State Hospital, are deeply grieved over the untimely death. Mr. Runquist, who was also injured in the accident, was unable to accompany the body to Anna. --Transcribed and contributed by Robert O. Grondin, taken from obituaries and newspaper clippings found in the family Bible of Daniel M. Kelley and Sarah A. Ferguson. No dates given, but believed to be in the 1920s. |
