Legal description; Directions : Best driving directions I can give... From State Hwy. 51, between Ashley and the Dubois-Oakdale crossroads, look for the DuBois Center and Camp Lions signs. Turn East onto this road, 2000N Youth Center Rd.. Follow it a few miles; you'll come to Quarry Rd., 26250 E. It continues East, but it also turns back South. Continue on this South road for 2-3 miles, it will curve to the left. Right after this curve, you'll see a black mailbox with the number 1654 on it. The house directly across the road belongs to this mailbox. These folks will point the way for you and if asked nicely, will allow you to park in their parking area. (They do watch over it.) There's an opening in the fence showing a path that's used by 4-wheelers and such. Don't panic, there's no damage to the cemetery whatsoever. The paths go all thru this woods; you just have to work your way North to the bluff that overlooks the creek. It's a pretty site, covered in periwinkle vine. Darlene Miller & Elizabeth Spurgeon did the original, partial transcription in 1973. I finally made the trip in March 2004. Yes, the snakes where out enjoying the warm weather too! I took digital pictures of the visible stones and started on the west end and worked my way east. The cemetery is shaped in a long rectangle. Things in ( ) are notes taken from the earlier transcriptions. Karla S. Skabialka |
