St. Charles Cemetery

      A plot of ground for the St. Cahrles Cemetery was obtained by the St. Cahrles Parish in 1898.

      It is located in Washington County on a high hill about three-fourths mile east of Du Bois.

      According to parish records, the first burial was that of Joseph Grabowski, Sr. on December 11, 1888. Prior to this, deceased members of St. Charles were buried at St. Michaels Cemetery at Radom, Illinois.

      Others buried at St. Charles Cemetery include Rt. Reverend Monsignor Joseph Ceranski, August 9, 1962, who served as pastor of for sixty-four years and native son, Reverend Stanley Ksycki, January 23, 1976.

      Some of the other names on the stones from 1861-1896 are : Kuhn, Molter, Hoffman, Kujawska, Doberstein, Gajewski, Bochantin, Bendrick and Majewski.

      Near the south east corner and along the fence at theeast side, there are graves without stones and some stones have sunk into the ground and the names are unreadable.

      The present cemetery sexton is Oley Bochantin and the caretaker is Henry Setzekorn.
