Irvington Township, Washington County Illinois

I found this cemetery in November of 2001;
Many of the stones are no longer readable or
are missing entirely. I did, however, find two M. E. C.
infant markers with the Clements.

Directions:
Take the Irvington Road (Western Ave. - the oil road that
lies on the west side of the train tracks in Irvington)
north towards Centralia. After you pass the intersection
of 1800N, there is a cable and padlock across a ditch on
the west side of the road in a wooded area. The path is
visible from the hard road. The cemetery is directly west
of this up on the hill.

This compilation was accomplished with
the aid of the original transcriptions
by the late Mrs. B. F. (Elizabeth) Hartline,
of Anna, Illinois.
Elizabeth Hartline's original introduction :

This cemetery is located three miles north of Irvington on the Irvington Road
It can't be seen from the blacktop road, which seperates the cemetery from
Elijah Jolliff's former log cabin home. To reach this family cemetery, it is
necessary to descend a steep hill, cross a small stream in the ravine and ascend
another hill on the summit of which the cemetery is located.

Since copying the inscriptions of all the visible stones in 1970, I have learned
of four additional burials. Mrs. Ben (Sandy) Jolliff, whose husband is a descendant
of Elijah and Sarah E. (Forbes) Joliff; copied the stones of William N. and Julia A.
Jolliff, but these stones since apparently sunken below the ground. Mrs Orville (Ruth)
RIGGS of Shattuc, IL. located the stones of Mary E. and her daughter Mary E. Clement,
by probing near the stone marked "M. E. & M. Clement" in the fall of 1979

Miles Hewitt was a Justice of the Peace. He married H. D. Clement and Mary E. Reno.
His signature is on the marriage license at Washington County.
