I found the attached undated photo among photos saved by my grand aunt Hattie (Edwards) McDonald, a former resident of Richview. It is
undoubtedly a photo of the members of Richview's GAR post. Hattie's father (my great grandfather), William Henry Edwards, is fourth from the left. I noticed above, that there was some question whether the name of the post was "Simon" Walker or "Simeon" Walker. A 1910 article in the Richview News, about the 50th wedding anniversary of William and his wife Mary, says that William was a member of the "Simeon" Walker post. Also, the 1879 "History of Washington County, Illinois," page 37, (now online via Google Books) lists a Simeon Walker as an early (ca 1855-56) Methodist preacher in the county. Larry House |
