H. R. ALLEN, was born in Jefferson county, Jan. 18, 1834, and died Feb 1, 1917. He was the oldest child of Rev. John Wesley Allen. He was married to Nancy C. Tate, April 14, 1854 at Richview, Ill., and to this union five children were born, three of which are still living. His wife died Feb. 15, 1874. On Nov. 26, 1874, he was again married, this time to Mrs. Sarah Hancock of Jefferson county. To this union four children were born, of which three still survive. In 1875 he moved into Jefferson county, where he lived until his death. He was 83 and 14 days old. To mourn his death are: His widow, Mrs. Sallie Allen, daughters, Mrs. Perry Ford of Victorville, Cal., Mrs. Thomas Ford of Kinsley, Kan., Mrs. Anna Holt of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Minnie Popp of Overland, Mo., and sons, Don C. Allen of Mt. Vernon, Lon C. Allen of Mt. Vernon, a sister Mrs. Mary Taylor of Boyd, a brother, Harvey of Harvel, Ill., and a number of nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of friends.
