Robert Baggs was a Private in Co. I, 49th Illinois Volunteer Infantry.
He was 27 when he enlisted. He joined 1 October 1861 at Ashley,
Illinois, and was mustered in at Camp Butler, Illinois. He enlisted in
Co. I, 49th Illinois, 31 December 1861.
He reenlisted as a Veteran Volunteer 15 January 1864.
He mustered out 9 September 1865 at Paducah, Kentucky.
I don't know his place of death and burial. As of 1865, he was in
Washington County, Illinois (state census of 1865),
but I couldn't find him or his wife, Frances A. Logan Baggs.
Note: Even though his name is Baggs in both his muster roll and
marriage record (Washington County, IL), I believe this name is
actually Beggs. Beggs would have been pronounced Baggs
because of the Scotch-Irish.
