Again has the Death Angel entered our community and while not totally surprised; yet we were not quite ready for his coming, for when he departs some hearthstone is made desolate for out from that home into which he came accompanied him a loved one who will never return. This time he called at the home of John W. Leathers and the wife answered the summons. Mariah Louisa Weaver, daughter of George and Elizabeth Weaver was born May 12, 1835, near Malaga, Monroe County, Ohio, and with her parents came to Illinois in the Autumn of 1856. She was married to John Leathers Jan. 19, 1882. No children were born to this union, but she won a place in the hearts of her stepchildren as only mothers can win, loving them and giving them a mother’s love. While Aunt Mariah never affiliated herself with any religious denomination, she often expressed her willingness to go home to heaven. The last years of her life was a life of suffering, but she was patient through it all, and while surrounded by loved ones that did all that frail humanity could do to aid her she acknowledged death the victor and last Friday evening, April 4, ceased to live here, while out yonder in the eternities she still lives. She leaves a husband, three step-children, one brother, and one sister to mourn her demise. Funeral services were held Sunday April 6 at Oak Grove by E.P. Rogers after which the remains were laid to rest in Hail Cemetery, there to wait the coming of our Lord.   E.P. Rogers.
