HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Hayward collegiate Institute owes its existence to the bounty of Robert Hayward and other citizens of Fairfield and Wayne County. A beautiful and convenient building was erected during the summer of 1886. On September 20th 1886, the school began its work with fifty one students and seven teachers. By the end of the first term 83 students were in attendance. At the end of the first year 250 students were enrolled.
