About twenty-three years ago three gentlemen, tow of whom still reside among us, took it upon themselves to call a few German families together and see what their opinion was regarding organization to proclaim the way of salvation to them, in harmony with the Bible. Rev. C. Senel, then of Lyons, IA was solicited. He came on a Sunday agreed upon and thereafter for a year, when he left Lyons. His successor was rev. Father Lussky here and in Hopkins township. This was about 1874, the exact time not being known.
The church now numbers about 270 members, counting children. Connected with the church is a parochial school. This society does not wish to be looked upon as opposed ot the public schools. On the contrary, they believe it their duty to pay their assessed tax and at an extra expense uphold their schools, in which their children may be taught their religion. In addition to religious teachings, much attention is given to all elementary studies. At present there are thirty-nine scholars in the school. Rev. Louis Gresens is the present pastor and also has charge of the school.
