Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church

Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized June 17, 1877. Its first building was dedicated in the fall of 1877. The congregation ordinarily had its own pastor, but from 1882 to 1886 it was served by the pastor from the Lutheran Church in Ashton.
The church was renovated in 1891 and two lots adjoining the church were purchased. In 1892 the church was raised and basement put under it for school purposes. The first parsonage was built in 1894 by Dr. Reu. Additional church improvements were made in 1898. About 1900 additions and improvements were made to the parsonage; and the parsonage as purchased by the congregation.
For a period of time preceding 1900 the pastor in Rock Falls also served the congregation in Yorktown. Additional improvements were made in 1914 and the church was rebuilt extensively in 1926. Electricity and other improvements were made on the parsonage in 1916.
In 1952 a portion of the parish hall was built, and an additional part was built in 1957. Additional land for parking wa spurchased in 1965 and 1967. During these 90 years there has been continued growth and as of 1967 the church has 1399 baptized and 1028 confirmed members.
