Anti-Liquor Petition 1913-14

line

This is a petition that was filed by George A. Round, great-grandfather of Dan Hand who contributed this article. George Round had very strong feelings about the way people were drinking during his lifetime. He felt that it was "wrong" for people to spend all the money they made and sit in "saloons", leaving their families at home with no money for food or necessities. Dan also has in his possession an unsigned letter that Mr. Round received, stating how wrong "he" was in being involved with the petition drive.

To the Town Clerk of the Town of Lyndon, in the County of Whiteside and the State of Illinois:

The undersigned, residents and legal voters of the Town of Lyndon in the County and State aforesaid, respectfully petition that you cause to be submitted, in the manner provided by law, to the voters thereof, at the next election, the proposition: "SHALL THIS TOWN BECOME ANTI-SALOON TERRITORY?"
