Prophetstown Echo March 7, 1934
Fred Hintz & son, Emiel, and Dwight Dace drove to Peoria Monday.

Margaret Brown was a guest of Vera Meier from Friday until Monday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. George Baker were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Hilger.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Person were callers at the George Merrill home Sunday.

Fred Hintz & son, Emiel, Frieda Hintz and Irene Erdman spent Thursday evening at the Arthur Baker home.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stewart of Sterling were supper guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hintz.

Lloyd Poulter and George Watson and a friend from Dixon called on Mrs. Poulter Saturday at Ottawa. Her condition continues to improve.

Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Thompson of Rock Falls spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and mrs. carl Hintz and all sepnt the evening at the Fred Hintz home.

Mr. and Mrs. William Obendorf helped Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carlson move Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs. Max Lawrence helped Mrs. Majeski last Thursday with her moving.

Juanita Morphew and Blaine Hannabarger have received postcards from Miss Evelyn Chase of Sterling who is making a world tour. The cards were mailed on board the SS President Jackson.

The West Hume Club was entertained Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Lou Peterson, the hostess serving refreshments after the business meeting. Thirteen members and six visitors were present, the latter including Mr. and mrs. Harold Hansen, Clarence Oetzel, Henry Clark, Fred Sandrock and Earl Merrill. MRs. John WOlf of Sterling will be the next hostess and the club will meet with her in two weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Lou Peterson were given a pleasant surprise Friday night on the occassion of their 40th Wedding anniversary when a group of friends dropped in for an evening of cards. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. William Obendorf and son, Mr. and Mrs. John Wolf of Sterling, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sandrock and children, Mr. and mrs. Henry Bower and Clayton, Mr. and Mrs. George Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hannabarger and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Freick, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bollman, Mr. and Mrs. George Merrill and Earl, Earl Dobson, Philip Oetzel, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Oetzel and daughter. Lunch was served at a late hour.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hintz were Sunday visitors in Pekin at the home of Philip Beck.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bower were guests at the George Baker home Sunday evening.

Mrs. Gilbert Dave and son Junior were callers Monday afternoon at the George Merrill home. Emiel Hintz was a caller in the evening.

Mr. and Mrs. George Merrill and Lloyd Poulter and son Gene spent Sunday in Ottawa with Mrs. Poulter. Mrs. Poulter doesn't show much improvement.

Mr. and Mrs. Burton Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Baker were Monday evening callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George baker.

Mr. and Mrs. Emiel Roseling of Tomas, Mr. and mrs. Joe Stewart of Sterling, Mr. and mrs. Arthur Baker and Delmar Johnson spent Sunday at the Fred Hintz home.

Mrs. Henry Bower will be hostess to the West Hume Club Friday afternoon. Mrs. George Merrill and mrs. George Baker are the entertainment committee.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stewart of Sterling spent Wednesday evening with Mr. and mrs. Fred Hintz. Mrs. Hintz is not as well as her friend would like her to Be.

Mr. and Mrs. Louie Baker and family of Chicago were callers Friday night and Sunday at the George Merrill home. Thye also visited Friday at the Willard Baker home and Saturday at the Lester Baker home in Lyndon.

Mrs. C.D. Cleaveland will be hostell to the Jolly Neighbor Club Thursday afternoon.

Fred Hintz, William J. Hintz, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hintz spent Saturday in Amboy.

Philip Beck, Walter Beck and Mrs. Til Hild of Pekin were Sunday dinner guests in the Carl Hintz home.

C.D. Cleaveland, Clarence Gaulrapp and Nathan Hand spent Wednesday evening in Morrison.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wheelock and Fred Pierce were in Morrison Saturday calling at the Farm Bureau office.

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wheelock have been at the home of the latter's father, Mr. Buchwald, who is very seriously ill with pneumonia and is under the care of a trained nurse.

Miss Frieda Hintz accompanied by Mrs.J.M. Sewart of Sterling, spent Wednesday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Lawrence Boyunge and daughter in Sterling.

Hume residents who went to Morrison Friday to the demonstration of meat cutting and preparation for the locker were Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Cleaveland, Mrs. Meredith Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Hand, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Schutt, Mr. and Mrs. ralph Bollman and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gaulrapp and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wheelock.

Twenty-four members and two guests, Mrs. Peark Oroke of Sterling and Mrs. Theodore Robinson of Rock Falls were present at the meeting of the West Hume Club Friday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Earl Saunders. The club will donate five dollars to the fund to purchase an iron lung for Whiteside County. Mrs. William Ufkin and Mrs. Clarence Oetzel were in charge of the entertainment Friday and Mrs. Oroke sang two songs. Refreshments were served at the close of the afternoon and the group adjourned to meet again in two weeks with Mrs. Emil Hintz.

The Hume unit of the Home Bureau met at the home of Mrs. V.F. Washburne Wednesday afternoon with 11 members and seven visitors present. A report of the nominating committee of officers for the new year was read as follows; chairman, Mrs. N.H. Hand; vice chairman Mrs. V.F. Washburne; secretary Mrs. Louise Washburne. Plans were made and committees appointed for a frolic to be held at the West Hume school house Feb. 4. Plans wer ealso discussed for the annual Home Bureau dinner to be held in Prophetstown Feb.18 at the Methodist Church. The major lesson was given by Louise Cunniff on "Window Curtains and Draperies", explaining the various types of window treatment in relation to room size, exposure, wall finishines, furniture, etc. Mrs. Glenn Schutt gave the mnor lesson "Handicraft" and demonstrated a unique pattern of crocheted rug. The February meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Meredith Anderson and a picnic dinner will be served for members and their families.
