James Mathis married to Phyllis Schmucker

Sunday afternoon in Fourth Street Methodist Church bridal vows were exchanged by Miss Phyllis Schmucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Schmucker, 1815 Locust St. , Sterling and James Mathis of Rock Falls , [ Illinois ]. Mr. Mathis is the son of Mr. And Mrs. James Mathis of 505 W. 6th St. , Rock Falls . A double ring ceremony was read by the Rev. Lawrence Axelson and the bride’s father gave her hand in marriage. White gladioli were arranged in the altar vases and also in two tall baskets. The nuptial setting was completed with potted palms. Miss Linda McCoy was the wedding organist and Miss Shirley Lindsey sang three selections. They were, “I love You Truly”, and “Because” before the ceremony, and “The Wedding Prayer” while the couple knelt at the altar.

Attendants to the bride were Miss Lois Vlad, bridesmaid and Mrs. Robert Schultz, matron of honor. Mary Joanne Lathrop was flower girl and Mickey Moore was ring bearer. Chuck Bucy was best man and Robert Schultz was groomsman. The ushers were Jim Edeus and Bernell McKee. The bride chose a powder blue taffeta dress with lace tiers on the skirt edged in permanent pleated nylon. She wore a Juliet cap of net and a short veil. Her flowers were white carnations and tiny pompons tied with blue ribbon. White net over white taffeta dresses worn by the bridesmaid and matron of honor were trimmed with blue bows. They had flower headbands and carried blue colonial bouquets with blue ribbons.

The mother of hr bride was attired in a light blue organdy dress with an eyelet embroidery bodice. Mrs. Mathis chose a navy blue nylon dress. Both mothers had white accessories and white carnation corsages. A reception for 125 guests took place in the church parlors. The refreshment table was adorned with a four tier wedding cake topped with a bridal pair ornament. Ladies of the church attended to the serving. Registration for the bride’s book was in charge of Mrs. Joe Vlad and the gift table was taken care of by Mrs. Clifford Musselman and Mrs. Henry Brill. Mr. Mathis was graduated from Rock Falls Township High School in 1954. After a short wedding trip he and his bride will reside in a trailer house at 1815 Locust Street , Sterling . Out of town wedding guests at the wedding were Mrs. Bessie Shade and Mr. and Mrs. George DeVorskey of Iowa City , Ia. , Mr. and Mrs. Alva Potter and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Shade and son of Tiffin , Ia. , Mrs. Lizzie Schmucker of Kalona , Ia. , Pvt. Carson Potter of Camp Chaffee, Ark., Mr. and Mrs. Dale Musselman of Springfield , Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Short of Chicago, Mrs. Mattie Goodspeed and Mrs. Fred Howard and daughter Carol of Grand Detour and others from Princeton, Polo and Coleta.
