Whiteside County Marriages

On Wednesday evening, August 7, 1895 at 8:30 o’clock, at the home of the bride’s parents, Miss Ada M. Luse to Mr. William T. Thomas, Rev. Cass Davis officiating.

The wedding was a private one, only a few being present. After the marriage ceremony was performed congratulations were offered, and delicious refreshments were served. There were present at the wedding:

Messrs. and Mesdames-
Eli Rohrer
Cruse
Stewart Kuhn
Rev. Cass Davis
Bert Thomas
Frank Thomas
Norman Thomas
Mrs. Luse
Miss Anna Mott

Messrs.-
Harry Thomas
Ralph Thomas
George Thomas

On the way home from the wedding the party passed the First Methodist church. Here they found a large number of their friends had gathered together to give them a surprise reception. They were called in and congratulated. The evening was spent enjoying a social time and the affair, tho’ unexpected, was greatly appreciated by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas.

The bride and groom are both well known in Sterling and have a host of friends who tender them from their heartfelt congratulations. Mr. Thomas will remain in this city and pursue his trade, that of a carpenter, as heretofore.

The couple began housekeeping at their home on Broadway between Fifth and Sixth streets. Here they will live for some time when it is expected that Mr. Thomas will build a home of his own. The STANDARD joins the friends of the happy couple in extending them congratulations, together with wishes of a long and prosperous journey through this life.

From the Sterling Standard, August, 1895. Submitted by Jerry Thomas, great-grandson.
