"R M Kennedy reports that his first vote was cast for Henry Clay in 1844, in
Dearborn County, Indiana, in Manchester Township, and has voted the straight
Republican and Whig ticket ever since except in 1856, when he supported Bell
and Evert, AND THAT HIS GRANDFATHER, JOHN KENNEDY, was a Revolutionary soldier under General Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, and died at Germantown, Perry County, Pennsylvania. The Johnsons and McKees of that county are relations.
“In our own times, I have personally known seven Revolutionary soldiers in
Pennsylvania and Indiana." 17 Nov 1908.
(Note: RM Kennedy wrote a weekly newsletter for the Whiteside Sentinel for some 26 years under the nom de plum: Hans.)
Also, the Kennedy’s trace their lineage, via Martha P Roberts, to John Howland, a Mayflower passenger.
