COL. James Arthur McGINN, A 18 year resident of the Tidewater area, Col. James Arthur McGinn, USMC (Ret), 69, of Norfolk, VA, passed away July 21, 2004, in his home following a long battle with cancer. A native of Rock Falls, IL, Col. McGinn retired to the Tidewater area after 30 years of service in the United States Marine Corps. A 1957 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy and naval aviator, his service included two combat tours in Vietnam flying helicopter gunships, command of two helicopter squadrons and a wing support group and Director of English and History at the Academy. After retirement he continued a second career in education as a high school counselor for the Norfolk public school system. Col. McGinn was an active participant in the community, a member of Talbot Park Baptist Church, Kiwanis, and the Marine Corps Aviation Association to name but a few.
