Sterling Park District announced today that the old Community High School Athletic Field located at W. 7th St. and Woodburn Ave. has been named the Harry E. Kidd Field in honor of the former veteran sports writer of the "Daily Gazette." The sterling Park District Board of Commissioners unanimously named on March 15, the facility in honor of Harry e. Kidd, who for many years covered the Community High School and now Newman High School and Sterling High School athletics as well as park district sponsored aports and recreation events.

The old community high school athletic field, purchased by the Sterling Park District, under Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, administered by the State of Illinois Department of Conservation under their 50 per cent matching fund program. The field is currently being used for Junior Tackle Football, softball and other park district programming. A concession stand is currently being erected by he Junior Tackle Football organization and is scheduled to open this fall.

Park district officials feel the naming of this athletic field a fitting gesture to the memory of Harry E. Kidd, who for so many years devoted his life to sports and athletics here in Sterling. A permanent sign will be erected on the site in the near future with dedication ceremonies being established at a later date. The family of Kidd as well as friends and relatives will be invited by the park district to these dedication ceremonies.
