ELNORA ELIZABETH (GIBSON) ACKEBERG , 88, passed away Sunday afternoon in the Whiteside County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran Church, Prophetstown, Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. , the Rev. L. S. Anderson, officiating, with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Elnora Elizabeth Ackeberg was born Feb. 17, 1879 in Fairfield Township, the daughter of Nels and Mary (Peterson) Gibson. She was educated in the Center Schools. She married Frank Ackeberg of Prophetstown in Chicago, Feb. 17, 1908. She lived in the Prophetstown area all her life and was a member of the First Luthern Church. She is survived by three brothers, Anton Gibson of Prophetstown; Glenn Gibson of Tremont; Arthur Gibson of Lyndon; two sisters, Mrs. Josie Ackeberg and Mrs. Amanda Pierson, both of Prophetstown. She was preceded by her parents, husband, two brothers and twos sisters.
(Funeral)Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Ackeberg, age 88, who passed away Sunday, were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Chruch. The Rev. L. S. Anderson officiated for the services. Miss Beverly Allen and Miss Mary Anderson were the soloists with Mrs. Harld Anderson at the church organ. Serving as pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Paul Ackeberg and Walter Don Kent, LeRoy, and Allen Gibson. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery with the Hill Crest Greenhouse and Mr. and Mrs. Burr Merrill and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Gibson in charge of the floral tributes. (Sterling Gazette 4 March 1967)

JOSEPHINE (GIBSON) ACKEBERG , 81, died Tuesday (30 June 1974) at Oak Glen Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gardner Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Sunday. A memorial has been established for the First Lutheran Church. Mrs. Ackeberg was born Feb. 8, 1893 in Fairfield Township, the daughter of Nels and Mary Peterson Gibson. She was educated in Pleasant Ridge School. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, Gold Star Mothers and the First Lutheran Church. She married Amandus Ackeberg of Prophetstown on Jan. 3, 1914 in Morrison and they farmed in the Prophetstown area for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jacob Froelinger, Moline; and Mrs. Albert Castrey, Coyne Ceneter; one son, Harry W., East Moline; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three brothers, Anton, Prophetstown; Glen, Freemont; and Arthur, Lyndon. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Paul and Lester and four sisters and two brothers.

PAUL A. ACKEBERG , Funeral services for Paul A. Ackeberg, 57, who died Monday morning at his home in Prophetstown, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. L. S. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, and friends may visit at the First Lutheran Church Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory. Paul Ackeberg was born May 27, 1915, at Prophetstown, the son of Amandus and Josephine Gibson Ackeberg. He was educated in Prophetstown schools and entered the United States Air Force. He married Jeanett Hamilton of Morrison, on March 12, 1945 in Morrison. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He had lived in various places while in the USAF and came to Prophetstown when he retired in 1967. Lt. Col. Ackeberg was a veteran of World War II where he first served as bomber pilot and later flew refueling missions at Strategic Air Command. He was promoted to captain and became commander of an Air Police Squadron based at Grand Forks, N.D., where he served until his retirement in 1967, with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Survivors include his widow, his mother; three daughters, Mrs. Bob (Janice) Harshbarger, Danville; Mrs. John (Rita) Gray, East Moline; Marcia, at home; one son, Douglas attending SIU, at Carbondale; one grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob (Luella) Froeliger, Moline; Mrs. Albert (Vera) Sastrey, Milan, and one brother, Harry, E. Moline. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

MINA M. (EKHAHL) ACKERBERG , 78, Prophetstown, died Monday morning at Community General Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Daniel Boxwell will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established to the church. Mina Ackerberg was born Dec. 30, 1902 in Tampico, the daughter of Victor and Daisy (Carter) Ekdahl. She was educated in Tampico schools. She married Arthur Ackerberg of Prophetstown, April 17, 1923, in Morrison. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, First Congregational Church, Women's Fellowship of the church and the Country Club. They lived in the Prophetstown community until her husbands death in 1971. Survivors include one son, Robert, Prophetstown; one grandson; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson and a twin sister.

SUE (MICHEL) ACKLEY - A Sterling area woman met sudden and violent death shortly before midnight Friday (08 Jan 1965) on Rt. 30, two miles west of the intersection of Rts. 2 and 30 when her car and a semi-truck collided head on. Killed instantly was Mrs. Richard H. (Sue) Ackley, Woodlawn Road, Sterling. The driver of the truck, Jerry Stanton, 30, Montour, Iowa, was not injured. Troopers said Mrs. Ackley was eastbound and Stanton westbound at the time of the collision. Her car ran off the right side of the road and as she attempted to bring it back on the pavement it crossed the centerline and crashed head on into the westbound semi. Mrs. Ackley was thrown from her car, and although there are no conclusive reports, it is believed by state police the semi passed over her body. Following the collision the semi slid off the left side of the highway and into a deep ditch. Damage to the Ackley car was estimated at $1,200 and $9,000 to the semi.

Coroner John Ardapple of Morrison, selected a jury at the Melvin Funeral Home at 11 a.m. today and the inquest will be conducted later. Mrs. Richard H. Ackley, whose husband is co-owner of Forest Inn Restaurant and Lounge was born Nov. 30, 1937 in Dixon, the daughter of Leonard and Jane Hofmann Michel. She resided in Sterling her entire life and attended the local public schools, graduated from Sterling Township High School in 1955. She was a member of Ladies of Elks of Sterling and of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary. Sue Ann Michel was united in marriage to Richard H. Ackley Nov. 3, 1956 in Sterling. Surviving besides her husband are two sons, R. Michael and Peter P. Ackley, both at home; one daughter, Karen Ackley at home; three brothers: John Michel of Chicago, Ronald Michel of Denver, Colo. and Roger Michel of Sterling; her mother, Mrs. Jane Michel of Sterling; her father, Leonard W. Michel of Rock Falls; her grandmother, Mrs. Maude Hofmann of Dixon and grandfather, Frank Michel of Sterling. The body was moved to the Melvin Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, Rev. Lloyd O. Coleman, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery.

JOHN CORNELIUS AGGEN , 80, rural Morrison, died this morning (3 December 1970) at 9 in Community Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Reynolds Funeral home. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery. Mr. Aggen was born May 5, 1890, in Evergreen Park, Chicago, the son of Cornelius and Jennie Smith Aggen. He was educated and reared in Chicago and attended the Lincoln School in Union Grove. He had farmed in the Morrison area since 1909. He was a member of Spring Valley Reformed Church and a charter member of Whiteside County Farm Bureau. Survivors incluide two sisters, Mrs. Anthon (Mae) Remmers, and Mrs. Peter (Alice) Wiersema, Morrison; two brothers, Neil Aggen, Morrison; and Henry Aggen, Fulton; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, one brother Peter; a brother in infancy and one sister, Ann.

RALPH AHLGREEN - Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home for Ralph Ahlgreen of 210 E. 6th St., Rock Falls, who died Wednesday (3 January 1968) . The Rev. Donald War, pastor of the Rock Falls Christian Church, officiating with burial in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Mrs. Roscoe Eades was a the organ with Lyle Dirks singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Pallbearers were Fred Dodd, Walter Hoerle, Rokbert Murphy, David Truckenmiller, Danny Truckenmiller and Jesse Stanfield.

ROXANNE ALBERT , 31, of RR 1, Sterling, died Thursday at St. Luke's hospital, St. Louis, Mo. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:3i0 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home with Rev. R. H. Sharp, Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll. Visitation is Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in her memory to Self Help Enterprises. She was born July 13, 1947 in Sterling, the daughter of Kenneth D. and Phyllis I. Gary Albert Sr. She had been employed at Self Help Enterprises at the time of her death. Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth D. Albert Sr. of Sterling; two brothers, Kenneth D. Jr. of Chanahan, Ill., and Douglas of Dixon; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Irene Gary of Rock Falls.

H. MAE (HARTMAN) ALEXANDER , 92, a resident of Freeport Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Kent and Chadwick, died Friday, June 4, 1993 at Freeport Memorial Hospital . She lived at Freeport Manor the past five years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Kent and its women’s club. She was a past member of the Berean Circle of First Lutheran Church of Chadwick. Born April 4, 1901, in Fair Haven Township , she was a daughter of William and Emma (Adolph) Hartman. On August 14, 1921 she married Orion Alexander in Chadwick. He died June 17, 1981. Surviving are two daughters, Chrystal Tomman of Rockford and Margaret (Ernest) Brown of Winslow; one sister, Florence Turney of Rockford; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers died previously. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll . The Rev. Milton L. Whitney of St. Paul Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery , Sterling . Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church .

VICTOR D. ALEXANDER , 70, of 1403 11th Ave., Rock Falls, died Wednesday at KSB Hospital in Dixon. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Rock Falls United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation is Thursday (tonight) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home. The body will be moved to the church Friday at 1:30 p.m. where friends may call until hour of services. A memorial has been established. He was born May 2, 1908 in Raritan, Ill., the son of Samuel and Elsie Alexander. He married Marietta Bonicamp on Sept. 1-, 1935 in St. Joseph, Mo. He moved to Rock Falls in 1936 and was a member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church. Survivors include his widow; one son, Lauren of Sterling; one daughter, Mrs. Robin Hummel of Rock Falls; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Diane Gibson of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Betty Gibson of Rockford; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Leon and Alva of Atchison, Ka., three sisters, Mrs. Cleo Wilson of Sterling, Mrs. Marie Jeffries of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. Louella Hartley of Garden Grove, Calif.

TERRY LEE ALGOOD , the two-months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Algood, 605 Coloma Court, Rock Falls, died at 1 p.m. Sunday in Community General Hospital, following a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, with Rev. A. L. Dittman, pastor of Calvary Full Gospel Tabernacle, in charge. Funeral arrangements were made by the Trouth Funeral Home. The child was born Aug. 8, 1952 in Sterling. She is survived by her parents, three brothers and five sisters; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Algood of Rock Falls and Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Baldwin of Parkin, Ark. MRS. ALFRED J. ALLEN - Funeral rites for Mrs. Alfred J. Allen of Prophetstown, who died Tuesday, (30 August 1938) were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Prophetstown Congregational Church. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends. Rev. I. C. Campbell conducted the rites. The many beautiful floral offerings were silent tokens of love and esteem from the many relatives and friends. Those who assisted with the flowers were Mrs. Floyd Emmons and Mrs. Wilbur Miley of Lyndon, member of the Teachers Club, of which Miss Irene Allen, daughter of the deceased, is a member. Burial was in the Lyndon Cemetery. The pallbearers were Clayton Hill of Clinton, Ia., Claude Olinger of Lyndon and Earl Darnell, William Buchwal, Frank Angell and Clarence Olinger. ALICE (COLFORD) ALLEN - The funeral of Mrs. William Allen, who died , will be held from the home of her son, 506 Wallace Street, Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock and a requiem high Mass will be said by Father A. J. Burns at St. Mary’s Church at 10 o’clock. Alice Bolford (Colford) was born at Bana (Bannow), County Wexford, Ireland, Nov. 1, 1827, and came to America, landing at Quebec, in 1848. She was united in marriage to William Allen in Lockport, N.Y. in 1855 and came to Sterling the same year the Northwestern road reached here. To them six children were born, Mary J. Knowles and Jennie A. McCarthy, of Chicago; and William H., of this city, surviving. John R. another son, met death in a railway accident at Rochelle last march and two daughters, Alice and Anna, died in infancy. Mr. Allen died in the year of 1890. Mrs. Allen was a very faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and in the early years of her life in Sterling was very closely identified with the affairs of the parish. The Allen family has always been identified with the history of the Northwestern since the road first reached this far west and the two sons William and John held responsible positions, William still being the engineer on the Sterling passenger.

ANN (CARTER) ALLEN , 77 years old, died suddenly at her home in this city Saturday evening at 6:30 o/clock. She has been ailing for several years. Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 at the late residence, Rev. I.C. Campbell pastor of the Congregational church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Miss Ann Carter was born March 20, 1856 in Lacyville PA, her parents were Mr. and Mrs. James Carter. She came to IL with her parents in 1865, where they settled on a farm south of Morrison. She was married to John ALlen of Morrison vicinity on March 25, 1873. They resided on a farm in that locality until they moved to Prophetstown 23 years ago. Mr. Allen passed away eleven years ago. Mrs. Allen is survived by six daughters, Miss Pearl and Miss Vera in the home, Mrs. Howard Rapp of Prophetstown, MRs. Sarah Turney of Morrison, MRs. Nellie Eads of Lyndon adn Mrs. Elmer Eads of Clinton Iowa; five grandchildren and two great granchildren. She also leave son brother, Ellis Carter and one sister, MRs. Mary Rhymers both of Morrison. One sister, Mrs. Hannah Borman of Morrison died last Febraury.

FRANCIS M. ALLEN - 57, of 110 Douglas St., Prophetstown, died Wednesday evening at Morrison Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Prophetstown, with the Rev. L. S. Anderson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Gardner Chapel, Prophetstown. Memorials may be made to the church or to the Morrison Community Hospital. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Jean; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Beverly) Martens of Erie, Mrs. Gene (Carol) VanDeWostine of Prophetstown and Mrs. Ronald (Paula) Musick of Rock Falls; eight grandchildren and one sister, Dorothy Brandt of Grand Detour. He was preceded in death by his parents.

FRANK ALLEN - Funeral services for Frank Allen were held at the Garden Chapel in Prophetstown on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Preston Woods officiated, and burial was in Lyndon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur Gibson, J.D. Harrington, Dale Stump, Walter Settles, W. B. Gibson and Donald Pilgrim. Taking care of flowers were Mrs. John Tadsen, Mrs. Willard Bernhardy, Mrs. Dale Stump and Hillcrest Greehouse.

KENNETH JAMES ALLEN , 77, of Dixon, died Nov. 28, 1993 at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon. He was an Iron Worker for Local 498 Rockford for 40 years prior to his retirement Aug. 23, 1978. He was born July 31, 1916 in Morrison, Ill., the son of Harry William and Addie Mildred (Coonley) Allen. He married Dorothy Gladys Hoyle on March 26, 1936 in Washington D.C., she preceded him in death Nov. 28, 1993. Also preceding him in death, two brothers, one son and one grandson. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Friendship Lodge No. 7 AF & AM, Sauk Valley Stroke Club, and Iron Workers Local 498 Rockford. Survivors include two sons, William "Rick" (Ellen) of Dixon, Kenneth James (Linda) of Albany, ore.; one daughter Barbara (Rodney) Randall of Naperville; brother, Donald of Dixon; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Dec. 1 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Homer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, Ill. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home with family present from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., and Masonic service at 9 p.m. Memorials have been established to St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Dixon Theatre Renovation.

KENNETH ALLEN , 77, of Civic Plaza II, Rock Falls, died Tuesday, May 14, 1996, at Sterling Pavilion. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, with the Rev. Norvin Brewer, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. today at Allen-Melvin Funeral Home, Sterling. Arrangements were completed by Blair Funeral Home, Sterling. A memorial has been established. Mr. Allen was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Sterling, the son of Jeremiah and Cora (Reed) Allen. On Feb. 1, 1936, in Sterling, he married Virginia Birely. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an over-the-road truck driver prior to retiring and was a school guard. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters, Judy (Ralph) Moore of Sterling, and Sharon Christensen and Janice (Mike) Vancil, both of Rock Falls; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, David (Rebecca) Allen of Sterling, and Jeffrey Allen of Texas; and one sister, Ardella Richmond of Pahrump, Nev. He was preceded in death by his wife; two daughters, Sandra and Pat; two sons, Kenneth Jr. and Jerry; one brother, two sisters; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

MARSHA JANE (BALLARD) ALLEN 90, a native of Prophetstown and resident for many years, passed away at midnight Friday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Hobson, of Prophetstown, where she had made her home for the past nine yearss. She suffered a stroke in June, 1940, and had been confined to her bed since. The body was removed to the Helm and Helm mortuary. Funeral plans are not complete. She was born March 13, 1852, in Prophetstown, daughter of O. T. and Sylvia Ralyea Ballard. She spent her early youth in Prophetstown and later went to Michigan with her parents. She was married to William Allen of Quebec, Ontario, Canada, July 16, 1868, at Grand Rapids, Mich. They lived in Grand Rapids for a number of years and then moved to Prophetstown. Mr. Allen passed away in Prophetstown, July 16, 1928, on their 60th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Prophetstown Congregational church, a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and for many years was an active worker in the Sharon church in Portland township. She was known as a good Christian woman and a kind neighbor. Surviving are one son, Fred R. Allen, Clinton, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. C. C. Arnett, Long Beach, Calif., Clyde Reynolds, Prophetstown, Mrs. C. L. Clark, Springfield, Ill., and Mrs. R. W. Meeker, Rantoul; nine great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was precided in death by five brothers and two sisters.

NORA (ANTISDEL) ALLEN , 53, died at 3:45 o'clock Tuesday afternoon of cancer of the liver. She had been confined to her bed for the last eight weeks. The funeral will be held from the home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. F. T. Palm, pastor of the Methodist Church conducting. Committal of the body will be in Tampico Cemetery. Mrs. Allen was born July 2, 1879 at Cazenovia, Wis., daughter of Harve and Lissie Antisdel. She was educated at Madison, Wis., and was married in that city to Richard S. Allen, in 1902. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Miss Ruth, at home, and Mrs. Maude Kepner of Walnut. Another daughter preceded her in death. There are other surviving relatives. Mrs. Allen lived in Tampico for 24 years, and was a much respected and esteemed lady. She was as member of the Eastern Star and the Woman's Relief Corps.

PHOEBE HENRIETTA (CORNWALL) ALLEN - Mrs. Phoebe Henrietta Allen was born in the State of New York, June 17th, 1835 and died in Hampton, Iowa, Dec. 31, 1892 at the last hour of the day, in the 58th year of her age. Her maiden name was Cornwall. When but a child she removed with her parents from New York State to Milan, Ohio, and remained under their care until their death, when she commenced to reside with an aunt in the same place. There she was married to Norman Allen, July 2, 1854. The family moved to wisconsin in 1855, and subsequently to Illinois. In 1881 they came to Hampton, Iowa, and have since that made their home here. Mrs. Allen experienced religion in her childhood and joined the Baptist church continuing in that communion until she moved to Illinois when she joined the Methodist church. She was an active earnest christian and took great interest in the work of the church, always being present at the public services on the Sabbath when her health would permit. She began to fail in health about three years ago and much of the time since that her sufferings have been severe. At intervals she would rally somewhat and was able to attend some of the meetings of the recent conference in Hampton and greatly enjoyed the services. Four weeks ago she was taken with her final illness and kept her bed until death came to her relief. The funeral service was held at the M. E. church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C.F. McLean of Eldora, who has been supplying the pulpit in the absence of Mr. Luce, the pastor, preached an excellent sermon. The church was unable to accommodate, even with standing room, all who went to the place of meeting.

RITA BERNADINE (MARIANNI) ALLEN , 60, 607 9th Ave., Rock Falls, died late Friday night at Morrison Skilled Nursing Home Center after an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Alvin Hook, Minister of Visitation of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, officiating, with burial in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial in her memory has been established to the Morrison Skilled Nursing Home Center. Mrs. Allen was born on May 14, 1918 in Rock Falls, the daughter of Anthony and Rose Marianni. She was united in marriage to David W. Allen Sr. on Nov. 14, 1936 and they lived their entire married life in Rock Falls. She was a partner in the original Gift Shop and Smoke Ring in Rock Falls. Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, David; one daughter, Mrs. Burnell (Pat) Doden of Rt 2, Highland Acres, Morrison; two sons, David Allen, Jr. of Rock Falls and Gregory Dean Allen of Lee High Acres, Fla.; five sisters, Mrs. Sam (Mary) Licocci, Mrs. Meland Licocci and Mrs. Victor (Roseland) Kerkett all of Rock Falls, Mrs. Phil Holy of Hileah, Fla., and Mrs. August (Louise) Filippi of Sterling; one brother, Orland J. Cedro of Rock Falls; six grandchildren and one step grandchild.

ROBERT B. ALLEN , 31 of 422 E. Jackson St., Orlando, Florida, formerly of Oregon, died Wednesday (28 April 1982) morning in Florida Hospital South in Orlando following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, with the Rev. William Swarbrick, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established to the National Kidney Foundation of Central Florida. Mr. Allen was a service representative for Social Security Administration in Florida. He was born March 23, 1951 in Sterling, the son of Kennth James and Dorothy Gladys (Hoyle) Allen. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Hendricks on March 20, 1982 in Meitland, Florida. He was a member of the Magician's Union, the Council for Visually Handicapped, serving as president in 1980, a member of CITE and a 1973 graduate of University of Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Allen of Dixon; two brothers, William W. (Rick) of Dixon and K. James of Corvallis, Oregon, and one sister, Mrs. Rodney (Barbara) Randall of Naperville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

STELLA (WILSER) ALLEN , age 80, widow of the late representative Henry C. Allen of Lyndon passed away this morning at the Morrison hospital. The body was removed to the Gardener funeral home at Prophetstown and will be taken to her late home east of Lyndon tomorrow. Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 2 p.m. the Rev. George McKinley, pastor of the Prophetstown Congregational church officiating and interment will be in Lyndon cemetery. The daughter of the late Henry & Margaret Wisler was born in Lyndon township Jan 1, 1868. She had spent her entire lifetime in the vicinity of Lyndon and had resided in her late home since 1899. She was educated in the Lyndon schools and was a charter member of the Lyndon club and an honorary member of the Bend missionary society. She was united in marriage to Henry C. Allen in Morrison March 12, 1890 (Il Records indicate 1891). She is survived by two sons Frank of Lyndon and Robert of Sterling; four daughters, Mrs. Floyd Emmons of Lyndon, Mrs. Leo Bartel of Sterling, Mrs. Donald Olinger of Prophetstown, and Mrs. Frank Swanson of Sterling; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.She was preceded by her parents,her husband who passed in 1937, two sons who died in infancy, and a brother Jesse Wilser in 1945.

WILLIAM ALLEN , for thirty-five years foreman of the Northwestern round house in this city, died Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock, at his home in the southwestern part of town. For years he had the asthma, and this disease caused his death. He was born in Ireland 65 years ago and resided here for 35 years, coming here when the Northwestern did, and continuing as foreman of the company’s round house ever since. He leaves a wife (Alice Colford Allen) and four children. He was careful of his money, and leaves his family well provided for. Mr. Allen was an excellent citizen and his loss is felt, not only by his family, but by the railroad folks and his many friends. The funeral occurred at two o’clock this afternoon.

Alice Allen was the sister of Catherine Curtin. Like the Curtin family, the Allen’s worked on the railroad and suffered the same losses.

WILLIAM H. ALLEN , 78, 506 Wallace Street, died Friday evening at the Sterling public hospital. The body was taken to the Trouth funeral home from where it will be removed to the late residence this afternoon at 5 o’clock. The funeral will be held at 8:30 Monday morning at the residence and at 9 o’clock at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary. The Rosary will be said Sunday evening at 8 o’clock at the residence. Mr. Allen was one of the last of the old time railroad men for whom Sterling was famous for so many years. His father and mother, the late William and Alice Allen, Came to Sterling with the railroad in the early sixties. They settled at 506 Wallace Street, where William H. Allen was born August 24, 1868. He lived in the same house up to the time of his death. He was married June 7, 1898 to Katherine Sheridan of Sterling in St. Patrick’s church (now St. Mary). She preceded him in death May 16, 1913, as did four sisters and one brother. He is survived by three children—Margaret Allen, Sterling; Mrs. George F. Virkus, LaGrange, Ill; and William S. Allen of Winnetka. Five grandsons also survive. Mr. Allen early in life followed in the footsteps of his father and entered the service of the Chicago & North Western railroad for which he worked 52 years. He retired seven years ago.

(Funeral Notice) - The funeral of William Allen took place Monday morning in St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Leo Ambre conducting the mass and Rt. Rev. Msgr. A.J. Burns delivering the funeral sermon. Committal rites at the grave in Calvary cemetery were also in charge of Monsignor Burns. Serving as pall bearers were George Behrens, Charles Gagin, F. A. Virkus, William Rourke, Joseph Ward and Lawrence McKevitt. The flowers were taken care of by Mrs. W. L. Killian and Mrs. Fred Wahl.

Funeral rites are Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Fitzgerald and Franklin Funeral Home, 1571 Maple Avenue, Evanston, to St. Mary’s Church for mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Surviving with Mrs. Allen are three sons, David of Potomac, Md., Dr. William S., Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y. and Alfred of Alpine, N.J., nine grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Delaney and Mrs. Alice Virkus of Sterling.

BETTY JANE ARNOLD , 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arnold of Rock Falls, passed away at 6:23 p.m. Saturday in the Sterling public hospital after a short illness. Arnold home on furlough and T/Sgt Lloyd Arnold who is home on furlough from George Field, Lawrenceville; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Austin of Rock Falls and her maternal grandfather, William Hinds of Sterling.

EDNA (STERN) ARNOLD , 91, a long time resident of Walnut, died Wednesday (20 Apr 1977) at the Professional Care Center in Sterling. Edna Arnold was born Dec. 21, 1885 to James and Mary Stern, in Bradford. She married Jess Arnold, Feb. 12, 1907, who preceded her in death. EFFIE ARNOLD , a resident of Tampico most of her lifetime, passed away Tuesday (26 Sep 1961) in the Independence Hospital at Independence, Mo. The body will arrive in Chillicothe, Ill., Wednesday afternoon and will be brought to the Melvin Funeral Home in Sterling. At noon Thursday the body will be taken to the Tampico Methodist Church to lie in state until the funeral service at two o'clock. The Rev. Nathan Althoff, pastor, will officiate and burial will take place in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the Tampcio Methodist Church. Mrs. Arnold was born Dec. 20, 1880, in Tampico. Her husband, James Arnold, preceded her in death in 1954. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gordon Brooks of Independence, Mo., a sister, Mrs. Louise Arnold of Tampico; a half-sister, Mrs. Emma Christenson of LaPlata, Mo.; two grandchildren, Arnold Brooks of Overland Park, Kan., and Mrs. Richard Miller of Independence, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.

LOUISE E. (EKDAHL) ARNOLD ,84, passed away Thursday evening in the Morrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Schmitt Chapel, Tampico, the Rev. Louise Arnold was born May 2, 1884, in Fairfield Township, the daughter of Benjamin and Christine Ekdahl. She was educated in the Tampico schools and lived in this area all her life. She married Joseph Arnold in June, 1905, in Tampico. She was a member of the First United Methodist church. She is survived by one daughter, Mildred Arnold, at home and nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, one daughter Marjorie in 1966, two sisters, one brother, three half-sisters and one half brother.

DOROTHY MAE (OPPENDIKE) ARP , was born Aug. 8, 1911, in Hillsdale, IL, the daughter of John and Nellie Hart Oppendike. She graduated from Hillsdale High School and Rock Island Business College.She married Otto Arp on July 16, 1933, in Dixon, IL. He passed away on September 19, 2001. They were married for 67 years. She was employed at Regalia and Fresh Pack Candy Co. She was the loving mother of a son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Diana Arp, Bagley, WI; a daughter, Diana Coelho, Moline; grandchildren and spouses, Kimberly and Rick Arp-Barnett, Grosse Ile, MI, Shari and David Shrum, Crownsville, MD, Christine Lynne, Spring Hill, KS, and Jon and Carrie Coelho, Peoria, IL; great-grandchildren, Jacee, Lexis, Zachery, Kacie; step-grandchildren, Kimberly and Jason; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, her parents, two sisters, three brothers and a grandson, Jon Arp II. Dorothy enjoyed her family, especially her grand-children. She also enjoyed baking through the years. She gifted friends and family with trays of cookies for Christmas. She passed away two days before her 94th birthday on August 6, 2005 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL. Serevices were held Saturday, August 13, at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown beside her husband, Otto.

OTTO R. ARP , was born August 24, 1908, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Richard and Minnie Arp. He graduated from Rock Island High School and the Rock Island Business College. He married Dorothy Oppendike in 1933 in Dixon, IL. He was a Prudential Insurance agent for 12 years, and then was employed as office manager of Bradley Manufacturing, Rock Island. He had done volunteer work at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, for many years. He started the flower garden there and made a patio for the residents to enjoy. He enjoyed his family, flower garden and yard. He passed away at the age of 93 Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Private services will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. A memorial was established for the American Heart Association. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Diana Coelho, Moline; a son, Jon Arp, Bagley, WI; grandchildren, Jon Coelho, Christine Deel, Kimberly Arp-Barnett and Shari Shrum and Zachary Arp-Barnett. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jon Arp II, two brothers and six sisters.

EMMA MARGRETHE (HANSEN) AVERY , 82, of Prophetstown, passed away this morning (22 November 1966) at the Clinton Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Gardner Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Paul Olson of the Methodist Church officiating with burial in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel Wednesday afternoon and evening. No visitation on Thursday. Emma Margrethe Hansen was born Nov. 27, 1884 in Fairfield Twp., the daughter of Orla F. and Mary Nelson Hansen. She married Horace E. Avery of Erie, Feb. 12, 1909 in Prophetstown. They lived in the Tampico area for many years and moved to Prophetstown from Erie in 1964. She was a member of the Tampico Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Vernon f Erie; one daughter, Carolyn, of Prophetstown; one brother, Peter Hansen of Princeton, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, four brothers and five sisters.
