- Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Ballard, 103, Whiteside County's oldest resident who passed away Tuesday evening (7 February 1961) at the Whiteside County Nursing Home were held Friday afternoon in the First Congregational Church of Prophetstown. The Rev. Nelson Chasteen officiated at the services and interment was at the Riverside Cemetery of Prophetstown. Mrs. James Fisk served as the soloist for the services singing the numbers, "Sweet By and By" and "Lead Kindly Light.: Mrs. Lyle Dingman was at the church organ. The Gardner Funeral Home officiated for the floral tributes. Serving as pallbearers were:: Elmer Johnson, Howard Burdsall, Clarence Zschetsche, George Sibley, Kenneth Moore and Louis Weburg.

- Funeral services for Mrs. Ralph (Betty) Bardell, 50, Milledgeville, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday [11/08/1972] at the Woodin Funeral Home, Milledgeville. The Rev. She is survived by her husband, one son, Eldon, Fulton and one daughter, Mrs. John (Sharon) Crine, rural Chadwick, three grandchildren, her mother, Milledgeville, one sister, Mrs. Clifford (Virginia) Bardell, Polo and one brother, Robert Eastabrooks, Mt. Morris.
BETTY J. (STERN) BARNETT
, 77, formerly of Sterling, Il. died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at Beverly Health Care of Largo , Largo, Florida. She was employed as an inspector for General Electric, Morrison, Il., for 15 years, retiring 1990. Betty was born May 2, 1923, in Sterling, Il., the daughter of John F. and Edith (Sprankle) Stern. She married George Barnett on Dec. 7, 1968. He died May 9, 1986. Survivors include three sons; James (Cathy) Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla., Ronald (Jane) Barnett of Seminole, Fla. and Kenneth (Sharon) Schuldt of Rock Falls, Il; a daughter, Barbara Rotenberger of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 11 grand-children; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 100F Cemetery, Rock Falls, Il. with the Rev. Roger P. Carlson, pastor, of Berean Baptist Church, Rock Falls, Il. officiating.
CARL G. BARNETT
, 93, RFD 4, Sterling, died Monday afternoon (22 Dec 1975) at Rock Falls Colonial Acres after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Behrens-Blair Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Walker, pastor of the Como Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Carl Barnett was born Feb. 27, 1882 in Hopkins Township, the son of John and Maggie Gordon Barnett. He married the former Kathryn Schultz, was a retired farmer and was a member of the Como Baptist Church. Survivors include two brothers, Clarence Barnett of Sterling and John Barnett of Kewanee, one sister, Bertha McAleer of Sterling. He was preceded by his wife in February 1970, one brother and five sisters.
JOSEPH DEAN BASS
- 65, of 1203 9th Ave., Rock Falls died Thursday evening (3 October 1974) at Community General Hospital.
Funeeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Lowell L. Ragains, pastor of the Maranatha Baptist Church of Yeowardville, Rock Falls officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Joseph Bass, was born Oct. 5, 1908 in Kinmundy, Ill., the son of Joseph K. and Mary E. Jones Bass. He was united in marriage to the former Dorothy C. Sands on Sept. 7, 1947. They celebrated their 27th anniversary this year. He was emmployed for Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. at Parish Alford for 23 years as a wire fabricator.
He is survived by his widow, Dorothy; two sons, Roger of California and Ellis of Rock Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Vivian) Miatke of Sterling, and Mrs. Elizabeth Rice of Oregon, Ill.; five brothers: Archie of Rock Falls, Robert of York, Nebr., Everett of Rock Falls, Pearl and Elvin both of Dixon; one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brothers and one sister.
BRANDON WAYNE BATES
- 2 1/2 month old son of Michael and Donna Alamaa Bates of Wilson Mill Road in Milledgeville, died Tuesday morning in his home. Funeral sercvices were held this morning at 9:30 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Babyland Section in Sterling, with Rev. David L. Beebe, pastor of the First Christian Church of Rock Falls, officiating. The infant was born on April 16, 1987 in Dixon. Survivors include his parents, one sister, Adriana Alamaa, at home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar W. Bates of Rock Falls; paternal great grandmother, Nellie Bates of Centerville, Iowa; and maternal grandmother, Dorothy Blylee of Colorado. Local arrangements were completed by the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling.
ALBERT LEE BENEDICT
- Funeral services for Albert Lee Benedict, Sr., of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Morrison, were held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Reynolds Funeral home. The Rev. Richard B. Heydinger, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated and burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery. Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside. L. A. Ludens is worshipful master of the Morrison chapter. Mrs. Richard Heydinger sang "In the Garden" accompanied by Mrs. Abel Renkes at the organ.
Pallbearers were Alvin Zuidema, Ronald Robertson, Dr. O. R. Sly, C. L. Berge, Charles Westendorf and Arnold Hayen. Friends in charge of flowers were Mrs. J. R. Collogan and Mrs. C. L. Berge. The body arrived at Clinton, Iowa, Sunday morning at 8 a.m. and was brought to the Reynolds funeral home. Mrs. Benedict accompanied the body of her husband.

- 81, 430 Martin Rd., Rock Falls, died Sunday at Community General Hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling with the Rev. Kenneth Zuithoff of Bethel Reformed Church of Sterling, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Sterling-Rock Falls United Way. He was born Jan. 17, 1908, the son of John and Nellie Bensinger. He married Doris Bellows on Oct. 9, 1928 in Aurora and she died on Sept. 21, 1973. He was a member of the Rock River Lodge #612 of the A.F. & A..M., past member of the Sterling Rotary, and was active with Cub and Boy Scouts in the Sterling Area. He is survived by one son, Charles Bensinger of Sterling; and three granddaughters, Terralee Bensingeer of Madison, Wis., Lisa Bensinger of Davenport, Iowa, and Deanne Bensinger of Sterling.

- 86, 1302 2nd Ave., Sterling, died Wednesday morning ( 17 July 1985) in Polo Continental Manor. Funeral services for Mr. Bethard will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling with Seminarian Rod Larson, of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be at the Allen Funeral home in Sterling Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m.
Mr. Bethard was born Oct. 18, 1898 in Fayette County, the son of George W. and Rosa Brown Bethard. He was united in marriage to Helen Braitsch on Sept. 27, 1928 in Sterling. He came to Sterling 61 years ago. He was a machinist at RB&W Co. in Rock Falls for forty years, retiring in 1964. The deceased was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling.
Surviving are his wife, Helen; two daughters, Mrs. George (Audrey) Dykhuizen and Mrs. Clarence (Joyce) Hopkins both of Sterling; one brother, Leon Bethard of Decatur and one sister, Mrs. Russell (Leora) Sims of Des Moines, Ia. A memorial has been established in his memory to St. John's Lutheran Church.

- Funeral services for Mrs. Thurston Pratt, 77, Oak Park, who died Friday night were held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Erie Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold George officiating. Marcheil Boelens was born on Jan. 6, 1921 in Prophetstown, the son of Julius and Clara Verlock Boelens. On Aug. 30, 1941 he married Margaret Maes in Tampico. He was employed by Olson's Elevator, Polo, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife; his mother; three sons, Joseph, Samuel and Patrick, all of Polo; four grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his father and one brother.
CHARLES BOELKENS JR.
, Services for Charles Boelkens, 70, truck farmer of Rural Route 1, Fulton, and life long resident of Fulton, who passed away in Mercy Hospital, Clinton, Ia., at 9 a.m. Tuesday, (05 November 1968) were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Trinity Reformed Church of Fulton. The Rev. Donald Boss officiated. Casket bearers were Everett Bonneur, Mino Kooi, Henry Norman, Clau Ten Boer, Wilfred Sikkema and Jacob Venhuizen. Flower bearers were Mrs. P. J. Vogel, Mrs. Gary Dykstra and Mrs. Geradus Vogel. The organist was Mrs. George Renkes and the solist E. J. Huizenga.
Charles Bolkens Jr. was born in Garden Plain, on May 10, 1898 to Charles and Bertha Vanderlie Bolkens. He married Katie Zeeryp in Fulton on Oct. 30, 1919. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he served as an elder for many years.
Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Marjorie) Hartman; four sons, Curtis of Milwaukee, Wis., Marvin of Las Vegas, Nev., Gerald of Fulton and Lavern of Palatine; 18 grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. John Kramer and Mrs. Henry Wierenga and four brothers, Will of Morrison; Edward, Fulton; Fred, Chadwick; and John of Mt. Carroll. Preceding him were his parents, two brothers and a sister in infancy.
MYRTLE F. (ROCK) BOGAARD
- 88, of Rest Have Nursing home in Morrison died Sunday (1 September 1985) at the Center. Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the First Congregational Church of Sterling. Arrangements were completed by the Melvin-Schilling Funeral home, Sterling.
Myrtle was born Jan. 5, 1897, in Superior, Mont., the daughter of Joseph and Mary Helena Conke Rock. On May 15, 1920 she married Dr. David D. Bogaard in Manchester, Ia. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1977. Mrs. Bogaard was a member of the First Congregational Church.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Bogaard of Edina, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Marsha) McCracken of Geneva, and Mrs. E. E. (Barbara) Olsen of Los Alamos, N.M.; and six grandchildren.
FREDA (HAMSTRA) BOLHLOF
- 88, 505 S. Portland, Morrison, died Saturday morning (8 March 1975) at Pleasant View Nursing Home after a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, preceded by a 1:45 p.m. prayer service in the church basement. The Rev. Henry Van Raalte will officiate. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Tomlinson Funeral Home in Morrison.
Freda Hamstra was born April 18, 1886 in the Netherlands, the daughter of Mint and Dora Dykstra Hamstra. She was educated in Holland and came to the United States in 1902, settling in Morrison. She was married Feb. 12, 1913 in Morrison to Ralph Bolhouf. He preceded in 1934.
Survivors include one daughter, Sylvania Davis of Polo; one brother, Charles Hamstra of Morrison.
She was preceded by her husband, one daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

, 83, Lyndon, IL passed away April 7, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the First Congregational Church in Prophetstown, IL with Rev. Andy Ploenzke officiating. Burial was in Lyndon Township Cemetery, Lyndon, IL. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, Prophetstown, IL and Lyndon Historical Society, Lyndon, IL.
Eleanor was born October 7, 1924 to LeRoy and Nellie (McDearmon) Eads. She attended Lyndon schools.
She married Thomas Boonstra on January 29, 1944 in Morrison, IL. He died February 5, 1994.
She was a homemaker. She loved needlework and reading. Eleanor was an avid Chicago Cub fan. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Prophetstown, IL where she was in Martha Circle. She was also a member of the Lyndon Historical Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Diana DeNeve, Long Grove, IA, Ellen (Mrs. Matthew) Littrel; one son, James (Connie) Boonstra, Morrison, IL; nine grandchildren, Beth (Don) Kusch, Jennifer Swanson, David (Michelle) DeNeve, Dena (Paul) Rucker, Darrin (Heather) DeNeve, Brian (Jenn) Littrell, Heath (Jenn) Littrel, Tom (Donna) Boonstra, Tim (Jen) Boonstra; 17 great grandchildren: one sister Mrs. Violet Knox, Morrison, IL; one brother, Charles (Verna) Eads, Prophetstown, IL, one son-in-law, Robert (Sue) Swanson.

, 73, died unexpectedly Monday night (4 January 1971) in his farm home on RR One, Fulton. Funeral rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Christian Reformed Church by the Rev. John Groenewold. There will be a prayer service for the family at 1:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Room of the church. There will be visitation at the Bosma Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Peter Borgman was born Setp. 22, 1897 in the Netherlands, the son of Jacob and Janna Auidema Borgman and came to the United States in 1921. He was never married. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and had resided in the Fulton area since coming from Chicago in 1932. Surviving is one brother, John of rural Fulton. Four brothers and two sisters preceded in death.

, 91, of Prophetstown, died Sunday (25 January 1987) at Resthave Nursing home in Morrison.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Prophetstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Janes officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Gardner Chapel in Prophetstown. A memorial has been established to Self Help in Sterling.
Mr. Bolhous was born on Nov. 11, 1895 in Eenren, Netherlands, the son of Claus and Sylvalena Terweer Bolhous. On Jan. 29, 1919 he was united in marriage to Anna Voss of Morrison in Morrison. The couple farmed in the Morrison area until 1930 when they moved to Prophetstown and continued farming until 1954. The deceased served for many years on the Benton Street School Board and served two terms as a Prophetstown Alderman. He was a former member of the Illinois State Champion Tug-O-War Team and helped organize the Prophetstown Men's Shuffleboard Group.
Survivors include his wife, Anna, two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Bengston of Prophetstown and Mrs. Cyril W. (Nancy) Martin of Silver Springs, Md.; two sons, Claire of Prophetstown and Perry of Moline; also eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

EDWARD T. BOYER
, 63, of 1003 Selmi Lane, Rock Falls, died Saturday (5 October 1985) at home. Funeral services were held today at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Sterling with Rev. Gary Jaeckle and Rev. Eldor Mueller, co-officiating. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Rock Falls. Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to the Messiah Lutheran Church.
Mr. Boyer was born on Oct. 6, 1916 in Chelsea, Ia., the son of William and Florence Trimble Boyer. On Sept. 12, 1941 he married Gladys Palmer at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Sterling. He was employed as as carpenter for many local contractors for the past 38 years and had been a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church of Sterling.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys; two sons, John of Bethesda, Md., and Neil of Hamden, Conn.; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Lois) Hinz of Decator and Linda Boyer of Sterling; three sisters, Elino Ramsdell and Marjorie Head both of Toledo, Ia., and Esther Davis of Tama, Ia.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandchild.
MRS. W.N. BOYER
- The body of Mrs. W. N. Boyer was brought here from Monticello for burial at three o'clock Monday afternoon in Riverside Cemetery. Funeral rites were held in Monticello Monday. Mrs. Boyer passed away Saturday Dec. 27 (1952) in a hospital in Urbana. She had been ill for the past month. She and her husband resided in the east end of Sterling for many years before moving to a farm near Mitchell, S.D., where Mr. Boyer passed away about 20 years ago. Since her husband's death Mrs. Boyer resided in Monticello. She had visited in Sterling occasionally since moving from here. Relatives from Monticello, Beloit and Fond du Lac, Wis., and Sterling, attended the graveside service.
LORENZ H. BOYSEN
, 79, of 230 Northway Park Road, Rockford, died Friday (April 17, 1982) at the Park Strathmor Nursing Home in Rockford after a short illness. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church of Jordan. The Rev. Walter J. Kukkonen, pastor officiated. Burial was in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Sterling. Mr. Boysen was born Aug. 19, 1902 in Stillwater, Minnesota, the son of Peter and Bertha (Kasson) Boysen. He was united in marriage to the former Helen M. Dirks on Oct. 23, 1943 in Chicago. He served in the United States Army Aircorp during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Helen of Rockford, one son, James of Niles and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Barbara, three brothers and one sister.

- Funeral services for Rudolph G. Bratz of Lyndon, formerly of Morrison and California, were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl I. Fant of the Bethesda Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in the Lyndon Cemetery. allbearers were Floyd McIntyre, Rock Falls; Bernard Rushmeyer, Grotheer Weaver, Lee Hinrichs, Fred VanderSchaaf, Morrison, and Earl Rhine of Lyndon. The soloist, Mrs. David Mathew of Morrison, sang The Old Rugged Cross and Abide With Me, accompanied by Mrs. Abe Renkes at the organ. Flowers were arranged by mrs. , 84, 6258 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago, died (Oct 27. 1984) suddenly Saturday morning at Northwest Hospital, Chicago. Visitation was on Sunday evening in the Montclair Funeral Home, 6901 Belmont Ave., Chicago, after which the body was brought to the Allen Funeral Home, Sterling, for visitation Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the Prayer Service at noon. A Mass of the Resurrection followed at 12:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rwv. Richard Russo as Celebrant. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Sterling. Bressanelli was born on Feb. 9, 1900 in Pennsylvania, the son of Angelo and Elizabeth Bressanelli. On April 4, 1931 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Delonga. He was in the construction business for several years. He owned and operated the Linton Nursing Home in Sterling for many years, and then one year ago moved to Chicago. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sterling. Surviving are his wife Mary Jane, Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Norman (Mary Jane) Norusis, Chicago, Mrs. Gerald (Rose Mary ) Kamansky, Arcadia, Calif., and Mrs. Doubls (Veda) Crowder, Sterling; two sons, Peter, Chicago, and Leo, Davenport, Iowa; 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
FRANCIS R. BRIGHTMAN
, 63, died early this morning (11 July 1963) in his home after a lingering illness.
Francis Brightman was born Dec. 13, 1899, the son of William and Myrtle Creider Brightman in Garden Plain Township. He has lived in the Erie vicinity all his life, and worked in the experimental department of the International Harvester Company in East Moline. He married Iva Hein on July 12, 1919, in Clinton, Ia. He was an active member of the Christian Church. Surviving are his wife, one son, Harland, Fenton Township; two daughters, Mrs. Ross Hawk, Fenton; Mrs. Lee Greenwood, Walnut; two brothers, Clifford, Sterling, and Lloyd, Erie; two sisters, Mrs. Burl Dew, Sterling, and Mrs. Raymond Thirtyacres, Minneapolis, Minn.; seven half-brothers and sisters, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter in infancy. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday and up until the time of service.
DONALD C. BROERS
, 63, of N. Main St., Coleta, died Wednesday evening (7 January 1987) at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Melvin-Schilling Runeral Home in Sterling. Rev. David Lee, former pastor of the Coleta United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation is Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Broers was born Aug. 12, 1923 in Walnut, the son of George and Edna (Graber) Broers. He was united in marriage to Edith C. (Sirna) Buckman on Dec. 15, 1962 in Dixon. He farmed for a number of years prior to his employement at Northwestern Steel & Wire Company where he was employed as a roller foreman for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He had lived in Coleta for 22 years and was a member of the Whiteside County Snowbirds Snowmobile Club.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; one son, Steven Buckman of Coleta; five daughters, Carolyn (Broers) Farmer of Rockford, Janet (Wright) Broers of Santa Barbara, California, Barbara (Broers) Hannah of Mesa, Arizona, Becky (Buckman) Milne of Colete, and DeAnna (Buckman) Wagner of Rock Falls; one brother, Wesley Broers of Tampico; two sisters, Mrs. Everett (LaVern) Pope of Belvidere, and Mrs. Glen (Ester) Briet of Chicago; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
GORDON BUCHANAN
, 75, 1207 W. 18th St., Rock Falls, died Friday evening (4 August 1978) at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rockford, following a short illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Wheelock Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Lowell D. Allen, pastor of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemtery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 23, 1902 in Fairfield, Ill., the son of Alex and Mary Day Buchanan, and farmed for many years at Deer Grove. In 1957 he moved to Albion, Ill., where he owned and operated a laundry until 1974, when he moved to Rock Falls.
He was a member of the Tampico Blue Lodge many years ago and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Rock Island Consistory. Survivors include his wife, the former Mayme R. Hollis; three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Ellen) Lowe, Sterling, Mrs. James (Jean) Pfundstein, New Haven, Ind., and Mrs. Archie (Clemma) Yarde, Tampico; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ronald (Nyla) Croy, Rock Falls, three step-sons, Elden Fritsch, Rock Falls, Billy Fritsch, Hawaii, and Gary Fritsch, Tampico; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Lacrietia) Tracy, Fairfield, Ill.; five brothers, Kenneth, Clarence, James and John Buchanan, all of Fairfield, and Tiffen Buchanan, Sterling; nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents and one sister. A Memorial has been established in his memory.
M. MAXINE (HACKMAN) BUCKWALTER
, 72, of Apache Junction, Arizona, formerly of Morrison, died Friday, August 9, 1996 at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa. She was a graduate of Mount Carroll High School and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Morrison. Following her marriage, she and her husband resided in Mount Carroll until 1948 when they moved to Morrison. They lived there until moving to Apache Junction, Arizona in 1991. She loved and enjoyed her family and extended family.
Mrs. Buckwalter was born November 21, 1923 in Mount Carroll to Roy and Emma (Wahl) Hockman. She married Theodore "Ted" Buckwalter January 9, 1943 in Mount Carroll. He died August 9, 1987. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Beth) Miller of Santa Monica, California; one son, Stanley (Mary) Buckwalter of Morrison; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Roger (Carol) Kallenbach of Morrison; and two brothers, Robert (Alice) Hockman and Wayne (Marilyn) Hockman, both of Mount Carroll. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Bewley, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Morrison, officiating. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
THEODORE A. BUCKWALTER
, 69, of 602 Oakland Ave., Morrison, died (10 Aug 1987) Sunday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. Funeral sercvices will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Genesee Street Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison with the Morrison American Legion Post 328 conducting military rites. Vistiation will be Monday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. Mr. Buckwalter was born on May 13, 1918, at Savanna, the son of Henry and Mabel Reese Buckwalter. He was educated in Mt. Carroll grade schools and on Jan. 9, 1943 he was united in marriage to M. Maxine Hockman in Mt. Carroll. Following marriage the couple resided in Mt. Carroll until 1948 when they moved to Morrison. The deceased was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire as a machine shop supervisor. Mr. Buckwalter was a member and trustee of the First Baptist Church of Morrison and a member and past post commander of the Morrison American Legion Post 328. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Beth) Miller of Rapids City, S.D.; one son, Stanley M. Buckwalter of Morrison; four grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Doris Pauley of Chadwick and Mrs. Delilah Adams of Mt. Carroll, also one brother, Lester Buckwalter of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, James.

- Funeral services for Cary Elwyn Buhrow, Sterling, R.R. 3 will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan. Dr. Alfred L. Grewer will officiate. Humphrey Buhrow. He graduated with the class of 1970 from Sterling Township High School and was attending the University of Illinois at the time of his death. ELSIE MARIE (FOLKERS) BUHROW
- 84, of Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, IL, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.
Elsie was born on August 4, 1923 in Fairhaven Township, IL to Emil and Clara (Steinmeyer) Buhrow. She was educated in the Hickory Grove Grade School of rural Whiteside County. She married Henry F. Folkers on September 9, 1940 in Clinton, IA. Elsie farmed with her husband Henry in the rural Morrison area and together they were Pioneer Seed Corn Dealers. She also owned and operated Elsie's Beauty Shop in her home. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Morrison, IL. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society, Bible study groups and many other church activities. She was a Vacation Bible School volunteer. Elsie served as a 4-H leader and member of the Whiteside County Home Extension. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and baking.
Survivors include her husband, Henry; one daughter, Beverly (Ken) Helgeson of Milliken, CO; one son, Gary (Pat) Folkers of Lyndon, IL; seven grandchildren, Brent (Arlene) Helgeson, Lance Helgeson, Shawn (Grace) Helgeson, Grant (Angie) Helgeson, Sherri Dirks, Jeff (Barb) Folkers, Scott (Andrea) Folkers; eight great grandchildren, Lyndsey and Kensey Helgeson, Christina and Steven Helgeson, Dustin, Ashlee and Travis Dirks, Marissa Folkers; one sister, Hazel (Ernest) Schultz of Sterling, IL; two brothers, Robert Buhrow of Sterling, IL and Eugene Buhrow of Sterling, IL.

DOROTHY (SIKKEMA) BUIKEMA
, 59, 1305 15th Ave., Fulton, died (24 Oct 1984) Wednesday at University hospital, Madison Wis. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma Funeral Home with the Rev. Warren Bovenkerk, pastor of the Second Reformed Church, Fulton, officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the Bosma Funeral Home. Dorothy Buikema was born to Howard and Edna L. Ploog Sikkema on April 10, 1925 in Fulton. She attended Fulton Schools and graduated from Fulton High School. On Oct. 16, 1947 she married Gerald J. Buikema in Fulton. She was a lifelong Fulton resident. Surviving are her husband, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sikkema, Fulton; two sons, Kenneth, Fulton, and Ronald, Clinton. Preceded her in death were one brother, Robert V. Sikkema.
EDWARD W. BUIKEMA
, 77, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, died Friday at the nursing home. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, Morrison, with military funeral honors by the Morrison VFW and American Legion. The Rev. Dr. James Camp, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. There will be no visitation. The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded. He was born March 8, 1926, in Union Grove Township, Ill., to Edward R. and Freda Maring Buikema. He married Janet Hawkins Schoaf on June 22, 1973, in Macomb, Ill. She died Nov. 15, 1994. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp - 8th Air Force from 1944 to 1946, ending his tour of duty while stationed in England. He was educated in Morrison grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. He started his career in men's clothing at Blass Clothing Store in 1943. The stores was incorporated as Buikema-Blass Clothing Store in 1963. He retired in 1979. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of Sterling Federal Savings and Loan; a member of First Presbyterian Church; a 58-year member of the American Legion, Morrison Post No. 328; a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 8281; and a member of the Morrison Country Club. He also was a member of the Morrison Chamber of Commerce and Whiteside County Republican Party. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mrs. Carol (Dale) Armstrong of Morrison; two stepsons, James Schoaf of Denver, Colo., and Chuck (Kathy) Schoaf of Morrison; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; a sister, Mrs. Doris Kilberg of Sterling, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four sisters and four brothers. Memorials have been established.
MARIA BUIKEMA
, 94, of Morrison and formerly of Fulton, Ill., died Wednesday (28 January 2004) at Resthave Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton with the Rev. Philip Rauwerdink, interim pastor of the Second Reformed Church in Fulton, officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clarence and Steve Huizenga and Kenneth and Bob Schaver.
She was born Oct. 3, 1909, in Ustick Township, rural Morrison, to John L. and Gertrude Stuit Buikema. She graduated from Fulton High School. She was employed with the former Patent Novelty Co. in Fulton for more than 30 years. She then was the printer and linotype operator with the Fulton Journal before retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Second Reformed Church and the Harbor Crest Nursing Home Auxiliary.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Memorials may be made to the Second Reformed Church.
STELLA M. (SHIPMA) BUIKEMA , 98, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, formerly of Fulton, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at the nursing home. She was employed by Burpee Seed Co., Clinton Iowa, for 23 years. Mrs. Buikema was born March 16, 1904 in Ustick Township, Whiteside County, the daughter of Louis J and Nellie C (Amman) Shipma. She attended rural Whiteside County schools. She married Epe M Buikema on June 16, 1927, in Fulton. He died June 30, 1983. She was a member of Second Reformed Church, Fulton, the church's Ladies Aid Society, Missionary Circle, and the Reformed Church Women's Guild. She was a charter member of Harbor Crest Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Resthave Home Auxiliary. She enjoyed flower gardening and baking. Survivors include a sister, Eloise (Kenneth) Bush of Morrison; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon, in infancy, a sister, Jennie Bielema; and two brothers, James Shipma and David J Shipma. The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Landegent, pastor of Second Reformed Church, Fulton, officiating. , 55, died Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. in Morrison Community Hospital after having been in failing health for the last six months.
Mrs. Burns was born Nov. 1, 1908, the daughter of Joseph and Della Turner Holbrook in Pope county. She was reared and educated in Pope and Hardin counties, living in Harrisburg until 1930 when she moved to Fenton, where she resided for the last 35 years. On April 1, 1930 she married Donald E. Burns in Benton. She was a member of the Fenton EUB Church and the WSWS.
Surviving are her husband, one daugher, Mary, at home; two brothers, Morris Holbrook, Elgin; and James, Rose, Eldorado; two sisters, Mrs. Amy Ford, and Mrs. M. R. (Alta) Williams of Harrisburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Fenton EUB Church with Pastor Jimmy Harker officiating. Burial will be in the Fenton Cemetery.

DONALD BUSHAW
, age 61, of 404 W. 10th St., died Saturday in his home. There will be no funeral services for Mr. Bushaw. Friends may call at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home in Rock Falls on Monday from 6-8 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory to the Northern Illinois Cancer Treatment Center.
Mr. Bushaw was born on May 5, 1928 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of Joseph Owen and Lillian V. Brinten Bushaw. He married Helen Throne on July 10, 1979 in Dixon. He was employed as a machine operator at Parrish-Alford in Rock Falls for 28 years prior to his retirement in 1981. He also served on the grievance committee for the Steelworkers Union. He served with the U.S. Army and for five years with the Merchant Marines.
He is survived by four sons, Ronald Paul Bushaw, Jack Alan Bushaw, and Daniel Jay Bushaw, all of Rock Falls, and Michael Steven Bushaw of Sterling; three daughters, Alyce Jo Bushaw of Rock Falls, Mrs. Thomas (April) Hemminger of Chadwick; and Mrs. Mark (Donna) Thompson of Hampton; 23 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three stepsons, Donald James Gordon of Rock Falls, Thomas Gregory Gordon of Denver, Colo., and Mark Leroy Watts of Sterling; two stepdaughters, Vicky Lynne Gordon of Rock Falls and Luva Marie Watts of Heber, Ariz; two brothers, Dewey Bushaw of Houston, Texas and Dick Bushaw of Tulsa, Okla; five sisters, Dr. Basel (Shirley) Maloney of LaMesa, Cal., Mrs. Robert (Coleen) Houser and Carol Bueger, both of Fargo, N.D., Mrs. Paul (Jean) Smith of Canyon Country, Cal., and Mrs. Nick (Joan) Collette of Grand Forks, N.D., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Donald Owen Bushaw, one brother, Owen, and one sister, Beverly.
MARY (McCORMICK) BUYERS
, 88, died Saturday November 10, 2007, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison.
Maxine was born on April 5, 1919, in Hahnaman township, the daughter of Maurice and Isabel (Ribordy) McCormick. She married Donald Buyers on August 24, 1938, in Sterling. He passed on August 2, 2000. Maxine was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling and bookkeeper for the family business.
Surviving is one daughter, Joan (Tom) Harms of Sterling; two sisters, Rita (Terry) Bishop of Springfield and Marjorie Staelens of Dixon; two brothers, Howard (Roberta) McCormick of Decatur and Dr. John (Jane) McCormick of Hunstville, AL; one granddaughter.
Celebration Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling, with Reverend Paul Lipinski officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling. Visitation is Tuesday from 4-6:00 PM at the McDonald-Allen-Grennan Funeral Home in Sterling.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
