DAVID EVERETT FADDEN , 81, retired farmer of Morrison, passed away this morning (Saturday) at 4:40 in the Prophets Riverview Center, Prophetstown. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Reynolds Funeral Home, the Rev. Charles Klosterman officiating, with burial in Lyndon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Sunday. A memorial has been established. David Fadden was born Sept. 4, 1886 in Lyndon Township, the son of Marvin I. and Clara Thompson Fadden. He was educated in the Lyndon schools. He married Jennie Maberry on July 2, 1910 in Rock Island. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Morrison Masonic Lodge. He is survived by three daughters, Vella Fadden of Sterling; Mrs. Edward (Harriet) Stuart of Morrison; Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Smith of Sterling; one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Myrtle) Burch of Morrison and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife in November 1965, parents and two brothers.

EUNICE LYDIA DAEHLER , 83, died Wednesday (August 17, 1983) at the Bowman Care Center in Ormond Beach, Fla., following an extended ilness. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday inthe First Congregational Church, Sterling. Interment of ashes will be Oak Knoll Cemetery. Eunice Daehler was born in Kewanee on July 17, 1900 and was united in marriage to Albert A. Daehler on Jan. 4, 1922. Surviving are two sons, Russell Daehler, Ormand Beach, Fla., and Arden Daehler, Witter, Ark.; one granddaughter; and three sisters, Mabel Anderson, and Julia Noonan, of Ohio and Gladys Ericson, Manlius. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, and three brothers.

VIOLET MAY (HILL) DAILEY - Funeral services for Mrs. Earl Dailey, 58, of Albany, will be held at the Dailey chapel in Post Byron Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Committal will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Albany. Mrs. Dailey passed away Sunday evening (20 May 1951) at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., following brain surgery. She was a patient there two weeks. Violet May Hill, daughter of Elmer and Minnie Daw Hill, was born at Albany, May 2, 1893, and spent most of her life there. She is survived by her husband, father and two brothers, Earl Hill of Albany and Edward Hill of Clinton, Ia.

WILLIAM ALBERT DAILEY , of 307 4th Ave., Sterling, died at his home this morning (28 March 1957) at the age of 66. The body was removed to the Allen Funeral Home. Mr. Dailey was born Feb. 23, 1891 in the state of Iowa, the son of Hanlin and Edith Dailey. He was united in marriage to Verna Gipson on Oct. 27 1951 at Rochelle, Ill., by Rev. Otto Linnenmeier of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Mr. Daily was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church of Sterling for many years. He was a retired foreman of the CB&Q Railroad fright house of Sterling. He is survived by his wife, Verna, one brother, Walter of Cocoa, Fla.; one adopted daughter, Mrs. Harry (Aradella) Stoudt of Sterling, and one niece and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be Friday evening at 7:30 at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Elder Mueller, pastor of Messiah Lutheran, officiating. The body will be taken to the Unger Funeral Home at Rochelle Sataurday morning to lie in state until Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock when Rev. Otto Linnemeier of St Paul's Lutheran Church of Rochelle will officiate, with burial in the Lindenwood Cemetery.

MARY D'ARCY , 62, a resident of Sterling nearly all of her life, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday (30 March 1953) in Baraboo, Wis., following an extended illness. She moved to Baraboo in 1949 and since that time had made her home with her sister, Mrs. J. G. McEniry. For many years Miss D'Arcy had been employed by the Eureka Company in Rock Falls. The body was brought to the Trouth Funeral Home here, where friends may call Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home and at 9 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Mary Church and of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Both organizations will recite the rosary at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Miss D'Arcy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jack and James, and one sister, Mary. Surviving her are two sisters, Mrs. Henry Boehm of Sterling and Mrs. McEniry of Baraboo.

MARY D. (FOLKERS) DARJUS , The funeral of Mrs. Mary D.Darjus, 76, who died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday in hr home in Morrison, will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Funeral Home and 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Arthur Oetting of the Hopkins Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery. Mary D. Folkers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Folkers, was born April 15, 1871 in Clyde Township. She had lived all her lifetime in this vicinity and was married in 1891 to William Darjus. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Prior to her death Mrs. Darjus had been ill for 10 years. Mrs. Darjus was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Surviving are two sons, Arthur and Ivan, and one daughter, Elvina of Morrison; three sisters and two brothers, Ed and William Folkers of Sterling; Mrs. Elda Behrens of Minnesota, Mrs. Anton (Hannah) Hartzner of Davenport, Ia., and Mrs. Fred (Emma) Behrens of Sterling. Mrs. Darjus was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four brothers, Herman, Anton, Fred and Charles Folkers.

JOHN DAVID , 84, 1809 4th St., Sterling, died Wednesday (10 August 1983) at the Medical Center, Bowling Green, Ky. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Behrens-Blair Funeral Home. The Rev. Clark J. Moushon, pastor of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. John David was born Aug. 26, 1898 in Sterling, the son of Silas and Elizabeth (Dillon) David. He married Berniece Drynan, Nov. 24, 1920 in Dixon. He was superintendent of the mail at the post office until retiring in 1955, and a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 296 for 50 years. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Herb (Doris) Rollins, Bowling Green, Ky; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Jan. 8, 1983.

ALDER DECKER , 98, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Saturday, January 21, 2006, at the nursing home. Alder was born February 6, 1907 in Warfum, Holland to Dewey and Clara (Wiersum) Decker. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools. He married Jennie Van Zuiden on February 12, 1932 in Erie, IL. He was engaged in farming in the rural Albany, IL area for 34 years, retiring in 1966. He then was employed by Brock Lumber, R.C. Smith Transportation/Scenic Stage Lines, Morrison High School and Peterson Drug Store all in Morrison, IL. Alder was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison and has served as an usher for many years. He was a former member of Newton Zion Reformed Church in rural Erie, IL and had served there as a deacon and elder. He was a member of Whiteside County Farm Bureau and enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Jennie; one daughter, Jeanette (Mrs. John) Bielema of Hooppole, IL; one son, Dewey (Alberta) Decker of Erie, IL; nine grandchildren, Rodney (Karlene) Decker, Darrell Decker, David (Val) Decker, Randy (Lori) Decker, Arlyn (Melissa) Decker, Rusty Decker, Melinda (Mrs. Tom) Snowden, Laurie Church, and Brenda Cowan; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Haley Church and one sister, Ruby Decker. Buried at Fulton Township Cemetery – Fulton, IL

AUBREY L. DECKER , 92, of Prophetstown, died Sunday (16 January 2005) at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, Ill. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Gibson and Son Funeral Home in Prophetstown. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. He was born April 19, 1912, in Anneta, Ky., to Charles and Lillie Willis Decker. He married Frances Redshaw on June 28, 1940, in Clinton. He farmed for many years and then worked with the Erie (Ill.) Feed Mill until 1978. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Linda (Dave) Wherry of Fulton; three sons, Gene (Marie) Decker of Annawan, Ill., A. Dean (Mary Ellen) Decker of Erie, and Neil A. (Irma) Decker of Prophetstown; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Almeda) Decker of Franklin, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Esther Decker of Aberdeen S.D., and Rosie Meier of Prophetstown; and nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established for the Lion's Club and the Prophetstown Ambulance Association. He was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

JENNIE (VAN ZUIDEN) DECKER , 100, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at the home. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at Bosma-Renkes, Morrison. Burial is at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton. She was born March 10, 1910, in Erie, to John and Jennie Van Zuiden. She married Alder Decker in 1932. He died in 2006. Surviving are daughter, Jeanette Bielema, Hooppole; son, Dewey, Erie; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

JOHN F. DECKER - A lifetime resident of this community and blacksmith for 51 years, John F. Decker, 321 1st Ave., Rock Falls, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Saturday in the Home Hospital. He had been ill since last February. Funeral rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Melvin Funeral Home where the body rests. Rev. Harry E. Shiffer, pastor of the Rock Falls Christian Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Born Jan. 25, 1874 in Sterling, John F. Decker was the son of John and Theresa Decker. He was united in marriage with Patience Berger Aug. 30, 1910 in Sterling. When Mr. Decker moved to Rock Falls as a young man, he worked for the late ex-Mayor, A. A. Thome, learning the blacksmith trade at the Thome Shop, corner of 1st Ave., and E. 4th St. Later he and Mr. Thome entered into partnership and operated the Thome and Decker Blacksmith Shop at that location for 51 years. They sold out in 1948 and Mr. Decker retired. Surviving are the widow and two sons, Wilbur J. of Rock Falls and Earl L. of Houston, Texas. He also leaves one granddaughter and two grandsons, Judy Lynn Decker and Ronald Triggs of Peoria and Calvin Triggs of Rock Falls. His parents and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Miller, preceded Mr. Decker in death.

JOHN W. DECKER , 1010 16th Ave., Fulton, 84, died suddenly at his home Sunday evening. (7 August 1983) Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma Funeral home. Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery. The Rev. Rodger Dalman, pastor of the First Reformed Church, Fulton, will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. John Decker was born on March 5, 1899 in Whiteside County, the son of John W. Decker Sr., and Fannie Temple. On April 12, 1921 he married Dorothy Walter in Fulton. She preceded him in 1955. On Jan. 3, 1956 he married Henrietta Strating Foster in Tennessee. He was a former school board member for the River Bend from 1950 to 1956, a member of the First Reformed Church. For 33 years he operated Decker's Grocery Store on 15th Ave., in Fulton, retiring in 1959. He was later employed at the Dolan Store Albany, and as a maintenance man at the Fulton High School. Surviving are his wife, Henrietta; one daughter, Mrs. Cletus (Charmion) Murphy Jr., Clinton, Iowa; one step daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Dorothy) Hook, Fulton; three step sons, Donald Foster, Morrison; Robert Foster, Fulton; and Richard Foster, Naperville; 12 step grandchildren; one step great grandchild and one brother, Louis Decker, Mt. Carroll. Preceding him in death were one infant brother, two half brothers and three step sister.

NELLIE (BUIKEMA) DECKER , 81, of 1012 15th Ave., Fulton, died Nov 3 1993 at Samaritan Hospital South, Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fulton Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Rev. Dan Jongsma, pastor of Bethel Christian Church, Fulton, and Michael Shipma, seminarian, co-officiating. Burial will be at Fulton, Cemetery, Fulton. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to First Christian Reformed Church, Fulton. Mrs. Decker was born Aug. 31, 1912 in Fulton, the daughter of Rankin and Rena (Klimstra) Buikema. She was educated in Fulton schools. She married Clarence Decker Dec. 2, 1936 in Fulton. He died Dec. 8, 1985. She was a homemaker and a lifelong Fulton resident. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, Fulton. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Sebert (Wilma) Dykstra and Mrs. John (Marie) Vredeling, both of Fulton; and one brother, David Buikema of Albany. She was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Shipma; and one brother, Lewis Buikema.

JOHN D. DeHAAN , RR 1, Rock Falls, passed away Thursday evening at Community General Hospital at the age of 74. He was born Feb. 25, 1895 in Kalamazoo, Mich., the son of George and Deena DeBoer DeHaan. He was a member of the First Nazarene Church of Sterling, the local barbers union, and worked as a barber for 47 years. He was united in marriage to the former Amy Terry on Nov. 21, 1918 in Clinton, Iowa. They were married 51 years. Mr. DeHaan is survived by his wife, Amy, one son Franklin E. of Rock Falls and one grandson, Jon Charles of Rock Falls. He was preceded by his parents, one child in infancy and one brother. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling with the Rev. H. C. Hatton, pastor of the First Church of Nazarene of Sterling, officiating with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling from 7-9 p.m. Saturday., and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday.

MARY (ZIGLER) DETER , 71, of 29342 Pilgrim Rd. Sterling, died Tuesday APril 30, 1999 at CHG Medical Center. Services at Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church, Dixon with the Rev. Richard Reigle officiating. Burial at Science Ridge Mennonite Cemetery, Sterling. A memorial has been established, Mrs. Deter was born May 15, 1927 in Dixon, the daughter of Louis H. and Ethel (Bollman) Zigler. She married William D. Deter on Aug. 12, 1949 in Oregon. He survives. She was an Elementary and Remedial Reading teacher in Chadwick,Talbott, and Unit 5 Schools for many years prior to her retirement in 1992. She was a memer of Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church in Dixon. SUrvivors include a son, LaMont (Karen) Deter ofIrmo SC; two daughters, Melony (Mike) Strong of Saudi Arabia and Valory (John) Jimenez of Sterling and six grandchildren. She was preceded by two brothers, James and Bruce Zigler.

LARRY DETRA , 60, of Kewanee, formerly of Prophetstown and Lyndon, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee, with the Rev. Dale Kooi officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee. Mr. Detra was born April 6, 1937, in Melbourne, the son of Charles R and Artis (Conrady) Detra. He married Joyce M. Wolf on Mach 2, 1957 in Lyndon. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was employed as a machine operator at Demmler Products for 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Detra of Kewanee, two sons, Curtis Detra of Kewanee, and Kevin Detra of Milwaukee Wis.; one grandchild, Andy Detra; and three sisters, Shirley (Don) Bohms of Prophetstown, Audrey (Perry) Bolhouse of Moline, and Beth (John) Abbadusky of Lyndon. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl Detra; and one sister, Betty Quick.

MARGARET (FRY) DETRA , died at her home this morning near Malvern after an illness of several months duration. Arrangements for the funeral have not as yet been fully made. Mrs. Detra's maiden name was Margaret Fry and she was a native of Pennsylvania. She was 72 years of age at the time of her death and leaves her husband and a family of eight children, one of whom is Mahlon Detra of this city. She also leaves one brother, Jacob Fry of this city, who is himself very ill at his home on West Seventh street, also a sister who resides in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Detra was devout Christian for many years and a kind and gentle mother. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her and will be enerally mourned through the neighborhood wher she has lived so many years.

Next Notice --- The funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Margaret Detra who died Tuesday (January 21, 1902) at her home in Malvern at the age of seventy-two, will be held at the residence Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. P.R. Keltner, pastor of the Sterling Brethren church will be the officiating clergyman and he will be assisted by the Rev. Mr. Klop of Fairhaven. The interment will take place in the Malvern Brethren churchyard. Among those who will atend the services from this city are Mahlon Detra, son of the deceased, Miss Mattie Frey and James Capp and daughter Goldie.

MARY DETRA , 70, passed away at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of her sister, MRs. Willard Murray, in Malvern. Miss Detra had been ill for several months. She had been a lifelong resident of that community. Besides the sister, Mrs. Murray, one other sister, Irene and five brothers survive. The brothers are Mahlon, Charles, George, Ira and John. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock. Sunday afternoon from the home of Mrs. Murray and at 2 o'clock from Evangelical church.

PAUL W. DETRA , 71, of 507 Market Street in Prophetstown, died Saturday evening at Community General Hospital in Sterling. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Prophetstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Janes, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. in the Gardner Chapel where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established. Paul was born on May 7, 1915 in Malvern, the son of Charles and Mary Elizabeth Taylor Detra. He graduated from Morrison High School in 1933 and on Aug. 21, 1937 he was united in marriage to Eileen Johnson in Prophetstown. The couple resided in Prophetstown since their marriage and he was employed at Frary & Sons from 1946 until retiring in 1982. The deceased was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Prophetstown Lodge 293 Masonic AF & AF, the Minerva Chaper O.E.S. and served for 17 years on the volunteer fire department. He was also cub master for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, Eileen, one daughter, Mrs. Neil (Virginia) Giffin of Prophetstown, one son, Neil of Prophetstown, eight grandchildren, and three brothers, Ralph of Rockford, Russel of Prophetstown and Warren of Clinton, Ia. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

RALPH DETRA , 89, of 16380 Norton Rd., Morrison, died Monday at the Morrison Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Morrison Chapel of the Boama-Renkes Funeral Home, Rev. Lynn Longenbaugh, pastor of the Morrison United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial and committal service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt.Hope Cemetery in Brooklyn, Wis. Mr. Detra wa born July 10, 1900 in Malvern Ill., the son of Charles and Mary Taylor Detra. He married Leona Longancker Oct. 16, 1920 in Malvern. She died July 7, 1972 (Monroe Wisc). He farmed in the Morrison area until 1950 when he moved to Brooklyn, where he farmed until 1973. He then made his home with his children, moving back to Morrison in June 1989. He is survived by four daughters, Doris Hartman, Morrison; Elizabeth Chapman, Chinook Mont.; Mary McCrae, Mesa Arix.; Mrs. John (Edith) O'Donnoll, Belle Vista Ark.; three sons, Howard Eugene, Dodgeville, Wis.; Charles, Loves Park; Gerald, Chicago, 26 grandchildren, and one brother Warren, Clingon. He was preceded by two brothers, one sister and numerous grandchildren.

EFFIE (SIVITS) DETWEILER , 90, died in Community General Hospital Friday after a short illness. She was a resident of the Rock Falls Manor, Rock Falls. The body was moved to the Melvin Funeral Home were (sic) friends may call from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Melvin Funeral Home with the Rev. LeRoy J. Hershiser Pastor of the First Christian Church of Sterling officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery Mrs. Detweiler was born July 24, 1883 in Jordan Township, the daughter of William E. and Ruth A. Burger Sivits. She attended Jordan Schools and was united in marriage to Harvey J. Detweiler Nov 18, 1903 in Jordan Township. Mrs. Detweiler preceded in death in May 1941. Mrs. Detweiler was a member of the First Christian Church of Sterling and a member of the WCTU. Survivors include one son, Glenn W. Detweiler of Rock Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Ema) Schultz of Pontiac; two sisters, Mrs. Bert (Amy) Shannon of Sterling and Mrs. Ann Wyrauch of Milwaukee Wis., ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and three sisters. A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church of Sterling.

GLENN W. DETWEILER , 83, of 508 W. Fourth St., died early this morning at CGH Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home, Rock Falls, with Rev Thomas Howard, pastor of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F Cemetery, Rock Falls. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with an I.O.O.F. service at 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established. Mr. Detweiler was born on June 15, 1906, in Emerson, the son of Harvey and Effie Sivits Detweiler. He married Mildred F. Meling on June 7, 1931, in Rock Falls. She survives. He was the owner and operator of Detweiler Cash Grocery in Rock Falls for 25 years and then employed at Twin City Produce for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church and the Independent Order of Oddfellows and a past member of the Rock Falls Rotary Club and founder and a charter member of the Whiteside County Rabbit Club. He is survived by one son, Larry, Moline; three daughters, Doris, at home; Mrs. David (Janeen) Allen, Rock Falls; and Mrs. Delvin (Donna) Hull, Colona, Ill.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by two sisters.

HARVEY J. DETWEILER , 73, a lifelong resident of this community passed away at his home, 1010 Seventh avenue, at 9 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Detweiler had been in failing health for two years. In April of 1940 he suffered a light stroke since which he had gradually failed, and had been bedfast since last Tuesday. Mr. Detweiler was born July 10, 1867, east of Penrose, where he resided until his marriage to Effie Sivits when they moved to Sterling. Later they took up their residence at Emerson. For a period he was engaged in farming in Lee county. He returned to Jordan township and later to Sterling. For a number of years he had been employed in a factory and for a time in a grocery store, being with his son in his grocery store in Rock Falls for four years. Mr. Detweiler had been a member of the Christian church for 59 years, uniting with the church in Nebraska at the age of 14, and for the last 38 years had been a member of the Sterling church. Besides the widow and one son Glenn W. of Rock Falls, a daughter, Mrs. Leroy Schultz, who with her husband, resided in the Detweiler home in Sterling. He also is survived by three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Detweiler was the youngest of a family of nine children, six boys and three girls, and he is the last of the family to die. Funeral services will be held from the Melvin funeral home at 2:30 pm. Saturday, Rev. Claude Cummings of the Sterling Christian church officiating. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery. Friends may view the body at the Melvin funeral home up to the hour of the funeral rites.

JANICE KAY (SWIMLINE) DETWEILER , 67, of Rock Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at her daughter's home in Rock Falls. Janice was employed by WSDR Radio Station, Sterling, when she was diagnosed with cancer in July 2007. Janice was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Tampico, the daughter of Russell and Edna (Larson) Swemline. She was a 1959 graduate of Sterling Township High School and sang in the Sterling Robed Choir and Girls Quartet. Janice was married to Kent Detweiler on March 3, 1962, in Sterling, by the Rev. H.C. Hatton. She was the first successful woman write-in candidate elected to the Whiteside County Board, serving on the board for more than 16 years. She and her husband, Kent, co-owned and operated Detweiler Auto Trim, Rock Falls, since the early 70s. Janice sold real estate for many years through various Realtors in Whiteside County. Later they owned and operated Detweiler Hobbies, Toys and Trains in Rock Falls and Sterling. Janice was a member of the Vintage Chevrolet Car Club of America for more than 35 years. She was a licensed EMT in the mid 70s; and a member of Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, and Sterling Ladies of the Moose. She was the best friend a daughter could ever have. Survivors include her husband, Kent of Rock Falls; one daughter, Marlene (Phil) Detweiler-Flynn of Rock Falls; one son, Scott (Kelly) Detweiler of Sussex, Wis.; three grandchildren, Adam Flynn of Rock Falls, and Alexandra and Sophia Detweiler of Sussex, Wis.; an uncle, Donald Swemline of Chippewa Lake, Mich.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three half brothers, Dale, Clyde and William Wiemken. The funeral is at 10 a.m. Thursday at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks of Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, officiating. Burial is at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the family, Julie's Preschool and Day Care, and Happy Tails Animal Shelter, both in Sterling.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DIR , was born in Chambersburg, PA, Aug 4,1836, and died at his home in Hahnaman Twp May 4,1909, of complications of diseases. In his early years he came west with his parents and settled in Bureau, 111., where he grew to manhood. He was married to LYDIA A. JOHNSON on Dec 12,1865, and has resided in Hahnaman Twp from that time. They moved to their present home in 1868 which has been the birthplace of all but two of the family. The union was blessed with 13 children all of whom have grown to manhood and womanhood, and all of whom with their mother survive him. Brought up under the strict discipline of his father, the Rev. George Dir, he inherited the traits of Puritan character better described by the greatest of poets, Robert Burns, when he wrote, "An honest man's the noblest work of God." The children in the order of their ages are: Mrs. Minnie Gettle, Sterling; William of Nebraska; Mrs. Nelson Thome, Van Patten; Edson M. of Deer Grove; Mrs. Isabel Hubbard of Iowa; Mrs. Lenora Pfulb of Rock Falls; Mrs. Daisy G. Montgomery of Normandy; Mrs. Ellen E. Pfulb of Iowa; Arthur L. of Nebraska; Mrs. Amelia Bell of Van Patten; Mrs. Hattie Smith of Minnesota; Mrs. Cassie Woods of Minnesota; and Miss Rose M. of Chicago, all of whom but one attended the last rites. Besides these he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Cornelius of Montana and Mrs. E. Halsted of Rock Falls, and seven brothers, Samuel, John, Matson, Joseph, William, Isaac and Luther. For several years he has been an active and devoted member of the Christian Church of Tampico, with implicit trust in him who stilled the waves of Galilee.

LYDIA ANN (JOHNSON) DIR , daughter of Win. and Loretta Johnson, was born in Rutland, Vermont, May 15,1846, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Thome, on the Rock Falls-Dixon road on Feb. 15th, 1923, of cancer of the stomach at the age of 75 years and 9 months. At the age of nine, she came with her parents to Illinois and settled in Hahnaman Twp, Whiteside County, which has been her home ever since, with the exception of brief intervals spent with her children in the western states in the later years of her life. On Dec. 12th, 1865, she was married to Geo. W. Dir, of Tampico, 111, and settled on a farm near Deer Grove, where the entire family of 13 children were born and raised , two of whom with the father, have passed on before. The children, in order of their birth are: Mrs. Minnie Gettle of Manly, IA; Geo W. deceased; Mrs. Henry Thome of Rock Falls; Mrs. Belle Hubbard, deceased; Edson M. of Deer Grove; Mrs. Lenora Brown of Rock Falls; Mrs. Daisy Montgomery of Walnut; Mrs. Ellen Pfulb of Osceola, IA; Arthur L. of Glenrock, Wyoming; Mrs. Amelia Bell of Spirit Lake, IA; Mrs. Hattic Smith of Dawson, MN; Mrs. Cassie Wood of Dawson, MN; and Rose M. of Chicago. She leaves behind, besides the 11 children, 46 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; a sister Mrs. A. A. Thome and brother, Thomas of Rock Falls; and another brother James, of Geneva, Nebraska. Sister Dir placed her membership with the Rock Falls Christian Church March 7,1912. She was a faithful member and was much interested in the work of the church and was always ready to do anything she could for her church, (rest cut off)

Mrs. Lydia A. Dir passed away on Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Thome, one mile southeast of Rock Falls, after an illness extending over a period of more than a year from cancer of the stomach. Mrs. Frank Brown of east of Rock Falls is a daughter and Mrs. Tony Thome of Rock Falls is a sister of the decedent. Funeral services will be held from the Thome home at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon and burial will be made in the Tampico Cemetery

ROSE MAE DIR - The funeral of Rose Mae Dir, formerly of Deer Grove, was conducted by the Rev. Harry E. Shiffer of the Rock Falls Christian church at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Wheelock funeral h ome. Attending the casket were Lester and Roy Thome, A.A. Sisson and Dale Burkey. Burial took place in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Those coming from out of town were Mrs. John Saathall and 3 daughters, Fern & Rita and Mrs. Rose Moore of Rockford; Mrs. Daisy Montgomery and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Burkey of Walnut, and Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Dir and Mrs. Mattie Dir of Deer Grove. Rose Mae Dir, daughter of George W. and Lydia Ann (Johnson) Dir, was born May 20, 1889 at Deer Grove and passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 1943 at 5:35 in the Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home in Fall River, Massachusetts. She was the youngest of a family of 13 children, of which four sisters and one brother survive. They are Mrs. Nellie Thome, Rock Falls; Mrs. Daisy Montgomery, Walnut; Arthur L. Dir, Kansas City MO; Mrs. Ellen Wood and Mrs. Hattie Smith of Dawsom, Minnesota. Preceding her in death were her parents, five sisters and two brothers; Eunice Minnie Gettle, George William Dir, Edson Monroe Dir, Lydia Isabella Hubbard, Leonora Viola Pfulb/Brown, Sarah Amelia Bell and Catherine Ann Wood.

WILLIAM C. DOES , 74-year-old Prophetstown resident, died Monday afternoon in Community General Hospital following an extended illness. He was born Sept. 9, 1882, in Eden Township in LaSalle County, the son of Lawrence and Theresa Matern Does. A long-time member of the Congregational Church, Does came to Prophetstown in 1952 after he had operated a feed mill for several years in Lo--ant Ill. He was united in marriage to Stella Wright, of Streator, in Ottawa, Sept. 25, 1907. Does is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Sturtevant, Prophetstown; and Mrs. A. G. Danforth, St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Adolph (Lulu) Vollenweider, Tomea. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters. Friends may call at the Gardner Chapel in Prophetstown where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. William Dupree of the Congregational Church will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Prophetstown.

CHARLES E. DOTY - Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home for Charles E. Doty, 45, of 801 Thomas Court, Rock Falls. The Rev. Sampson Harris, pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church of Rock Falls officiated and burial was in IOOF Cemetery in Rock Falls. He was born Sept. 30, 1931 in St. Elmo, Ill., the son of Charles R. and Ruby E. Lucas Doty. He married Betty Linder August 11, 1966 in Mt. Vernon, Ill. He was employed at Northwestern Steel & Wire Co. as a crane operator at the time of his death. Survivors include his widow, Betty; one daughter, Mrs. James (Karen) Mandrell of Clarksville, Tenn.; two granddaughters; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Tucker of Rock Falls, Mrs. Irene Tabor of Sterling, Mrs. Clara Chandler and Mrs. Dorothy Beard both of Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were conducted by the Wheelock Allen Funeral Home in Rock Falls for Charles E. Doty, 45, 8081 Thorne Court, Rock Falls, whose body was recovered from the Mississippi River Saturday morning after a boating accident on Wednesday evening. Services were held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Wheelock Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Sampson Harris, pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Rock Falls. Full military rites were conducted at the grave by the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902 and the Sterling VFW Post 326. Mrs. Wayne E Larson played the organ for the service, while Mr. Don Johnson sang "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were: Jim Mandrell, Bud Tabor, Charles Tabor, Kenneth Tabor, Delmar Tucker and Dennis Tucker. Flowers were cared for by Lundstrom's.

RICHARD E. DOTY , 63, Portland, Ore., former farmer of the Prophetstown area died at Portland on Sunday. The body will be brought to the Gardner Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, the Rev. William Dupree, pastor of the Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Doty was born June 4, 1893 at Beecher City. He was married to Lillian Anderson at Morrison on Aug. 31, 1920. He lived in this area until 1948 when he went to Portland to make his home. Survivors are two sons, Merle Doty, Portland, Ore.; Robert Doty, Dixon; one daughter, Mrs. Clarence Toppert, Lyndon; several grandchildren; and one-half sister, Mrs. Tim Compton, Kirbysville, Texas. His wife precded him in death.

EDNA LUCILLE (GREGORY) DUTY , 75, 307 Linconway West, Morrison, died this morning (11 August 1983) at Morrison Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Renkes-Reynolds Funeral Home, Morrison. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Visitation if from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. Edna Lucille Gregory was born Jun 8, 1906 in Moulton, Iowa, the daughter of Ross and Minnie (Burdick) Gregory.She was reared and educated in Moulton, Iowa. She married Frank S. Duty on Feb. 3, 1927 in Albie, Iowa. Following marriage they moved to Detroit. Then they moved to Morrison in 1929, where she worked for Green River Ordinance during World War II, the for the ICA Company and General Electric in Morrison for many years. She also operated a beauty shop from her home for eight years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Wa-Tan-We Club. Survivors include her husband, Frank; one daughter, Mrs. Chet (Darlene) Nelson, Tomnball, Texas; two sons, Robert of Normal, and Richard of Sherrard, nine granchildren, seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Norval (Emma) Gilman, Sterling; and Mrs. Irvin (Genevieve) Ridge, Naperville; and one brother, Donald Gregory, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by one sister.
