ERNEST FADDEN
- Funeral services for Ernest M. Fadden, 68, of six miles southeast of Morrison, retired farmer, who died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday (26 Jan 1952) in the Dixon Hospital, were held Monday afternoon at Morrison. The prayer service was held at 2 p.m. at the Reynolds Funeral home and the funeral at 2:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church. Burial was in the Lyndon Cemetery. The Rev. Harold E. Olson, pastor of the church, officiated, assisted by the Rev. A. C. Nesmith of Dixon.
The pallbearers were Nels Benson, Nels Nelson, Clarence Skains, John Vanderleeft, John Grau and Lester Grau. The floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Minnie Meyer, Mrs. David Wiersema and Alice and Mable Skans. Glenn Craddock and Clara Ackerman sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "In the Garden."
Mr. Fadden had been in failing health for the past five years and bedfast for the last two years. He was born Dec. 10, 1883 near Erie, the son of Marvin and Clara Thompson Fadden. He was reared and educated in the Humphrey school district. He farmed in Delhi and operated a hardware store in Erie from 1919 to 1931 and also farmed in Lyndon.
He was married Jan.5, 1905 to Myrtle French who passed away May 24 1921. He was married Jan. 14, 1927 to Ethel Mosser, who survives him. He was a member of the Methodist Church and of the IOOF Lodge. H
He is survived by his wife, and the following children, Lyle Fadden of Hammond, Ind., Doran Fadden of Chicago, Wayne Fadden of Morrison, Merle of Des Plaines and Mrs. Herbert (Ernestine) Loy of Hammond Ind.; 10 grandchildren; a brother Everett Fadden; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Nelson and Mrs. Arthur (Myrtle) Burch, all of Morrison; and a stepmother, Mrs. M. E. Fadden of Lyndon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a brother, Harold; and two daughters, Fern and Frances.
ELLA (SMITH) FARRELL
- Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Farrell were held at the home in Tampico Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Frank T. Palm, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated. Mrs. J. M. Conroy and Mrs. N. E. Denison sang two hymns, "In the Garden" and "Sometime We'll Understand." Friends who served as pallbearers were A. E. Bennett, J. M. Jacobs, W. J. McCreedy, R. F. Woods, J. M. Olsson and Wm. Burden. Burial was in the Prophetstown Cemetery.
RUBAH (McCLURE) FARRELL
- Death came to Mrs. Rubah Farrell very suddenly Monday morning while she was in the office of Dr. Mabel Sibley, being treated for a slight indisposition. The coroner was notified and an inquest was held, the jury returning a verdict that she came to her death from apoplexy.
Mrs. Rubah Farrell was born in Prophetstown August 10, 1868, and died Dec. 21, 1925. Mrs. Farrell was twice married, the last time to William Farrell 17 years ago, no children being born to the last marriage. To the first marriage there were born four daughters and one son, as follows: Chauncy McClure, a practicing chiropractor in Iowa; Mrs. Guy Parent, Aurora; Mrs. Lloyd Pratt, Tampico, and Mrs. Edward Buckwald, Prophetstown.
For the past 17 years, Mrs. Farrell lived in Prophetstown. Shortly after coming here she was married to Mr. Farrell, who preceded her in death some years ago. Mrs. Farrell was a Christian lady, being a member of the M.E. Church and active in the duties of the society. Funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2 o'clock in the M. E. Church here, by Rev. J. A. Foard, her pastor.
DONALD L. FINCH
- 74, of 22434 170th St., Carroll, Iowa, formerly of Fulton, died Nov. 2, 1999 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to American Heart Association.
Mr. Finch was born March 25, 1925, in Fulton, the son of Ernest and Dorothy (Dean) Finch. He was a 1944 graduate of Fulton high School. He married Florence A. Clausen on Sept. 11, 1950 in Clinton, Iowa. She survives. He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was employed by General Electric. Morrison, and Carroll, Iowa, prior to his retirement in 1987. He was manager of Manufacturing Engineering, starting the Carroll, Iowa plant. He was a member of Fulton American Legion Post 402 and Carroll American Legion Post 00007 for a combined total of 53 years. He was a member of Elfun Society of General Electric Leaders. He was an avid outdoors-man and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include a son, Byron (Kim) Finch of Somerville, Ohio; a sister, Lou (Gene) Robins of Rock Falls; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Bloomfield; and a brother, Russell Finch.
E.M. FINCH
- The funeral of E. M. Finch was conducted Thursday afternoon by Rev. Harry E. Shiffer, pastor of the Rock Falls Christian Church at the Melvin Funeral Home in Sterling with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Finch, a former Sterling resident, died Monday at Dixon. Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Daniel, Arthur and Walter Pope, John Lehr, James Partridge and Vinus Williams. Mrs. Walter Cassens, Mrs. Alvin Teske and Mrs. Chester Garwick had charge of flower arrangements, and Mrs. J. H. Linn presided at the organ.
ERNEST FINDERS - Funeral services were held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Grennan Funeral Home for Ernest (Pat) Finders. Rev. H. C. Hatton officiated and burial was in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Organist was Mrs. Mary Fecht and soloist was Rev. Gerald H. Pontsler. Pallbearers were: Ernest Parks, David Parks, Barry Parks, Thomas McCord, Timothy McCord, Bruce Henson, Bradley Hanson and Steven Janssen. JOHN ADAM FIRMAN
, 88, a lifelong resident of Prophetstown, died early Monday evening at the Morrison Community Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1866, the third son of Louis and Catherine Firman. John Adam Firman spent his early childhood on a farm near Prophetstown. Growing to manhood, he became a successful carpenter and contractor and will be remembered by his contemporaries for the excellence of his workmanship. About 1910, he was married to Mary Alice Keefe in the presence of the Rev. Father L. X. DuFour at St. Mary's in Tampico. His wife died Oct. 29, 1941. His parents, three brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.
Though he required care because of failing sight, Mr. Firman was mentally alert and in the bestof health all during his mature years until Oct. 6, when he suffered a stroke while at home in Prophetstown He was taken by ambulance to the Morrison Community Hospital where he rested comfortably in excellent care until Monday at 8:10 p.m. when he died.
The remains will lie in state at the Gardner Funeral Home in Prophetstown until the time of the funeral mass at St. Catherine's Catholic Church on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tampico.
Rosary will be said Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. in the Gardner Chapel.
ELIZABETH FOLKERS
, 94, of Englewood died Aug. 11. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Olinger Chapel, 2775 S. Broadway. Mrs. Folkers was born in Sterling, Ill., on June 24, 1907. She married Elwyn Folkers, 1931. She was a teacher. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Survivors include son Charles of Kansas; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
ELWYN CARL FOLKERS
, of Denver, a dairy management executive, died Sunday. He was 93. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Family Funeral Care, 2775 S. Broadway. There will be cremation. He was born Jan. 29, 1907, in Sterling, Ill. On June 10, 1931, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Marie Davis. He was a member of the Farm House Fraternity, the World Championship Dairy Cattle Judging Team, the Kiwanis, a past president of the Pennsylvania Association of Milk Dealers, a past president of the Greater Pittsburgh Dairy Association, a member of various committees for the Milk Industry Foundation and Dairy Products Improvement Institute and an author of numerous articles in dairy journals. He is survived by his wife; a son, Charles, Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Verna Sharp, Evergreen; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. PAUL KAY FORTUNE
, 17, of 1308 Hunter St. in Sterling was fatally injured in an auto accident on Route 52 near Dixon Friday afternoon (18 Sep 1987).
Funeral services were today at 1:30 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling with Rev. Kenneth Zuithoff, pastor of the Bethel Reformed Church of Sterling officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Miss. Fortune was born on Dec. 19, 1969 in Sterling, the daughter of Marion Ed and Karen Lea Siperly Fortune. She had attended Sterling High School.
She is survived by her parents, Marion and Karen Fortune of Sterling, her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Gwen Whalen of Centralia; her maternal grandparents, Robert and Phyllis Siperly of Rock Falls; one brother, Eddie Dean Fortune of Rock Falls; one half-brother, Scott Fortune of Rockford; two sisters, Annie Marie Fortune and Jennie Lee Fortune, both at home. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Eldon Fortune.
RUDOLPH A. FRIESKE
, of 1901 6th Avenue, Sterling, died Wednesday afternoon (9 June 1965 ) at the age of 68. Mr. Frieske was born Aug. 30 1896 in Winemac, Ind., the son of William A. and Emma Arndt Frieske. He had served in the Army in World War I. He was united in marriage to Esther Rees on June 19, 1922 at Logansport, Ind. Mr. Frieske was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and of the Carpenters' Union Local 695.
He is survived by his wife, Esther; one brother, William Frieske of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Stewart of Cory, Colo., and Mrs. Lydia Freeman of Winemac, Ind.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Allen Funeral home in Sterling with the Rev. Luther Cooperrider of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating with burial in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home any time.
BERTHA L. (TALMADGE) FUNK
, 83, RR 2 Sterling, died unexpectedly Sunday morning in her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Myrvin L. Holmberg, interim pastor of St. John's officiating. Burial will be in
Oak Knoll Cemetery. Friends may call at the Allen Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at 11:30 a.m. to lie in state until the hour of the services.
Mrs. Funk was born on Nov. 25, 1890 in Ashton, the daughter of Frank and Mary Feldkirchner Talmadge. She was united in marriage to James Shirley Funk on Dec. 16, 1908 at Nelson and lived her entire life in the Sterling, Nelson, Dixon and Stone Station areas. She had been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church since 1917.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Vera Carter, Sterling, Mrs. LeRoy (Florence) Johnson, RR3 Sterling; Mrs. RS. Robert (Dorothy) Marsh, RR2 Rock Falls; and Mrs. Alice Diehl, Sterling; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Adeline) Schick, Dixon; and Mrs. Charles (Hattie) Welker, Brookville. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and one brother.
