MABLE LOUISE (MURRAY) GETTLE - There are few families in our community which have been called upon more frequently to "walk in the valley of the shadow of death" during the past decade than this Murray family. First came the death of the daughter, Vivian Ruth on Dec. 13, 1921, at the age of nine years, as the result of Scalret Fever, then the father on March 15, 1926 at the age of 42 years, then the mother on June 18, 1928 at the same age, and now another daughter, Mabel Louise, on Monday morning, leaving only one, Velma of the once happy family. It is not strange that at each death the deepest sympathy of loved ones and many, many friends, should have been called forth in unusual degree. The burden of sorrow seems almost greater than anone could bear. And sustaining grace from the Great Divine Helper has made it possible as one by one the members of the family have been taken. That same upholding power is assured to the one who alone remains to bear the burden of sorrow. Mabel Louise Murray was born in Sterling on June 9, 1905 and died at her home, 309 Fourth Avenue, Rock Falls, early Monday morning, June 22, 1931, aged 25 years 5 months adn 13 days. She was the eldest daughters of Alvey and Emma Reins Murray and moved with her parents to Rock Falls when she one year old. She attended the Merril public school in Rock Falls from which she graduated. Afterwards she was privileged to attend the high school up to the junior year, when she was compelled on account of ill health to relinquish her studies. Sept. 29, 1927 she was united in marriage to Paul W. Gettle, Rev. Samuel Wirsching performing the ceremony at the parsonage of the Rock Falls M.E. church. They made their home at 304 Fourth avenue, where during the past few weeks, Mrs. Gettle suffered from a lingering illness, becoming so weak she could scarcely speak above a whisper. Her devoted husband and sister ministered to her faithfully in her helplessness and surely have the satisfaction that all was done that could have been done, humanly speaking, to prolong her life. But all ministration was of no avil and she steadily grew weaker until the end came peacefully on Monday morning. The writer feels that his knowledge of Mrs. Gettle's life and character has been sufficient to give deserving tribute to this noble girl. She was called upon to face what seemed more than her share of sorrow in her young life and she did it in such a fine uncomplaining and submissive spirit, that she commended herself to all who knew her as a good, devoted Christian young woman. While she was weak in body, oh, so weak that even to move required effort, she was not weak in spirit. We shall not soon forget a visit with her and her dear husband here in the home last week. She was strangely cheerful and hopeful, even beyond what the conditions seemed to warrant and we marvelled not only at the time, but after we had left the home. She appreciated the prayer offered in her behalf and expressed the cordial wish that we come again. Unbelievers simply do not have the sustaining grace within which she mainifested. The saving and keeping power of her Savior was the most blessed reality of her life. She did not mention death or heaven beyond but she was fully prepared for both. This is our precious comfort today, shared in large degree by her devoted husband and sister, and other more distant loved ones, and many friends, who mourn her loss. Pallbearers were H.F. Daggett, Maurice Conrad, Leland Lee, Tony Terlizzi, Merton Hayes and R. H. taft. Interment was made in the Rock Falls Cemetery.
