MARJORIE V. (MARTIN) GATZ
, 75, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Sterling and Polo, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, in Mesa, Ariz., after a short illness. Mrs. Gatz was born March 21, 1928, in Sterling. the daughter of Richard and Marjorie (Llewellyn) Martin. She married Marvin C. Gatz on Dec. 18, 1948, in Sterling. She was a member of Covenant Church, Mesa, Ariz.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Carolyn (Jack) Lange of Versailles, Mo., Connie (Jim) Hancock of Elfrida, Ariz., Ruth (Robert) Hayes and Tina Gatz, both of Mesa, Ariz.; a son, Raymond Gatz of Mesa, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother. Private burial is at a later date at Reed Cemetery, Polo. Arrangements were completed by Family Burial & Cremation Center, Mesa, Ariz. Memorials have been established to Grace Covenant Church, Mesa, Ariz., and Hospice of Arizona

CATHERINE (SALTZMAN) GEBHARDT
, 97, of Sterling, formerly of Ohio, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Good Neighbor Care, Sterling, Illinois. Catherine was born February 20, 1913 in Ohio, Illinois, the daughter of Julius and Edith (Sibigtroth) Saltzman. She married Marion VanDeMark in 1938 and he died in 1960. She later married Sidney Gebhardt on July 6, 1968 and he died in 1970. She was a teacher for 40 years, and was a member of First Congregational Church of Rock Falls. Catherine was also a member of the Friendship Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in LaMoille, Illinois, and served as Past Worthy Matron. Catherine was a Past President of Ohio Women's Club. She was also a Past President of Sterling-Rock Falls Pilot Club and Yesteryears Questers. Catherine was also a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship; Rock Falls Garden Club, and a past member of the Sweet Adelines (Sinessippi Chapter). Catherine was also a Fish Volunteer. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (David) Dorway of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jeanine (Lynn) Pepper of Conroe, Texas; two sons, Larry (Marilyn) Gebhardt of Sterling, Illinois and Hubert Gebhardt of Big Ben, Wisconsin; two nieces, Kay Hobbs of Bettendorf, Iowa and Judy (Dick) Poffenberger of Tucson, Arizona. She was also survived by seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Edith (Sibigtroth) Saltzman; two husbands, Marion VanDeMark and Sidney Gebhardt, and a great niece, Leslie Baker. Visitation at the First Congregation Church of Rock Falls, Illinois, Tuesday, 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m

KENNETH F. GEBHARDT
, 309 E. 10th St., Sterling, passed away at 9 a.m. Sunday in Community General Hospital after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 1, 1906, in Lostant, the son of Theodore and Margaret Bruce Gebhardt. He was a resident of this area practically his entire life and was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire Company for over 30 years.
Kenneth F. Gebhardt was united in marriage to Elizabeth A. Elenstra, July 22, 1932, in Sterling. Mr. Gebhardt was a member of St. John's Evanagelical Lutheran Church.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Richard A. Gebhardt of Sterling, Ray Gebhardt of Frankfort, Ind., James L. and Fred B. Gebhardt, both of Sterling; one sister, Mrs, George Gebhardt of Clarkfield, Minn.; three brothers, Hebert and Theo Gebhardt, both of Chicago, and Bruce Gebhardt of DeWitt, Ia.; seven granddaughters and one grandson; several nieces and nephews. His parents and three brothers preceded him in death.
The body was moved to the Melvin Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Rev. David A. McCleary of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate and burial will take place in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. A memorial has been established in his memory.

KATIE GETTY
, daughter of Rob't Getty, was buried at the Sharon cemetery Sunday, April 26, at 8 o'clock, p. m. Miss Getty, at the time of her death, was a teacher in the deaf and dumb asylum at Jacksonville. The Superintendent and a large number of classmates and relatives followed the remains to their last resting place.—first pub. in the Erie Independent

JOSEPH F. GIBBONS
, 45, of 1209 Sycamore Rd., Rock Falls, was dead on arrival at Community General Hospital Tuesday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home in Rock Falls with Rev. David L. Beebe, pastor of the First Christian Church of Rock Falls officiating. The body will be taken overland to the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Ill., where services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery, Johnston City, Ill. Visitation will be Thursday from 7-9 at the Union Funeral Home. Local visitation will be Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Wheelock Allen Funeral Home.
He was born Feb. 11, 1933 in Peoria, the son of John F. and Hazel Downs Gibbons. He was a construction worker with the Union Local 727 in Dixon.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Hazel Gibbons of Rock Falls; one sister, Mrs. Gordon (Mary) Hopper of Dixon; two brothers, James Gibbons of Sunnyvale, Calif., and David Gibbons of Como. He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.

ELLEN GIBSON
- The death of Mrs. Ellen Gibson, an aged and highly respected resident of Bureau Co., occurred last Friday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Olsson at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 20 days. She had been sick less than two weeks and death was due to weakness of age and other infirmities. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Swedish Church west of New Bedford at two o'clock, following a short service at the late home, and interment made in the
Tampico Cemetery. The services were in charge of Rev. Alfred Nelson, and Messrs. James Nelson, Alfred and Swan Crosell, Otto Johnson, Will Anderson and Nelse Swanson acted as pallbearers. Mrs. Gibson was born in Sweden, March 10, 1835, but had spent most of her life in this country. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons and one daughter. They are John, Andrew and Swan, and Mrs. John Olsson, the husband and father having passed to the other shore a number of years ago.

CLARENCE E. GLAZIER
, 86, of Albany, died Sunday at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Steven Gearing of the Gospel Outreach Church in Freeport, Ill., will be officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Lusk Memorial Cemetery, Albany.
He was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Morrison, Ill., to Claude W. and Effie Houzenga Glazier. He married Lillian M. Coyne on March 22, 1941, in Maquoketa. He was educated in the Bunker Hill school in Union Grove Township of rural Whiteside County, Ill. He was employed with the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and later the Milwaukee Railroad. He then worked at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill., and the Climax Engine Co., Clinton. He also was employed with John Deere and Co. for 32 years starting in 1948. He was a member of the Local 79 - United Autoworkers Union.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Gary (Carol) Glazier of Fulton, Ill.; three grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Dorothy (Alfred) Waldbusser of Prophetstown, Ill. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, one sister and two brothers. A memorial will be established.

KENNETH W. GLAZIER
, 38, RR 2, Fulton, was found dead in his car in Cordova Township Sunday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bailey Gibson Funeral Home in Port Byron. Burial will be in Lusk Cemetery in Albany. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was born in Hillsdale, Aug. 31, 1937, the son of Robert and Margaret Peck Glazier. He married Mary Covell, Dec. 26, 1974 in Sterling.
Survivors include his widow; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Holcomb of Geneseo; one son, Gary of Cordova; four daughters, Mrs. Debbie Kowitz of Cordova and Autum, Rhonda and Chevy in California; four step-children, Lena, Eddy, Max and Kelly Covell; one sister, Mrs. Lois Harper of East Moline; and two brothers, Arthur and Raymond Glazier of Geneseo.

MILDRED (ELASSR) GOODING
, 54, formerly Mildred Elsasser, passed away about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1960 in her farm home near Attica, Ohio. Mrs. Gooding was a graduate of the Presbyterian School of Nursing in Chicago. She was well known in Tiffin, Ohio, as a professional nurse of outstanding ability. She had served on many private cases in Tiffin and in the Mercy and Willard Hospitals, and the Tiffin State Hospital. She was born Oct. 23, 1906 in Sterling, the daughter of Chris and Sara Elsasser. Both parents passed away when she was in her early childhood. She was reared and educated by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scheler, her maternal grandparents of Sterling. Mrs. Gooding was a confirmed member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Sterling. She was married to Monford Gooding in Shelby, Ohio, in 1933, and is survived by her husband, a brother Kenneth Elsasser, two aunts, Mrs. Lyle Dodd and Mrs. Mae Corneluis, an uncle Walter Scheler, and several nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Chilicote Funeral Home in Attica, with the Rev. Paul R. Long, pastor of the United Brethren Church officiating. Burial was in the Attica Venice Cemetery.

- Funeral services for John Thomas Gossen were held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Wheelock Funeral home. Rev. Norman C. Miller, pastor of the Rock Falls Methodist church, officiated. Burial was in the Rock Falls Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mrs. Ralph Wasson sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Abide With Me." Pallbearers were Edward Hollenbeck, James Kelsey, Charles Sands, Ben Oatman, Elmer Menel, and Leland Lockhart. Mrs. Charles Anderson was in charge of flower arrangements.

HARRIETT (LEHMAN) GREGG
, formerly of Sterling, passed away Nov. 29 in Seattle, Wash., according to word received here. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. H. J. Carolus, who resides in Seattle. Funeral services were conducted in Seattle.

ANDREW GUTSHALL
- aged 70 years, passed away at his home in Garden City Tuesday evening following a serious illness of three weeks with heart disease. The body was removed to the Wheelock undertaking parlors in Rock Falls. The funeral will be held at one o'clock Friday afternoon in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Cobb, 900 West Fifth Street, Rock Falls, Rev. Swanson of the Gospel Tabernacle officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Gutshall is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Elsie Cowan of Sterling, Mrs. Frank Richmond of Moline, Mrs. Nellie Thompson of Clinton, Ia., and Howard in the home.
