EDNA (MUELLER) LADENBERGER - 100, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at CGH Medical Center. She was employed by Dixon Developmental Center, retiring in 1976. Mrs. Ladenberger was born July 24, 1907, in Sublette, the daughter of Martin and Lena (Sibigtroth) Mueller. She married Philip Ladenberger on Jan. 25, 1926 in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1982. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling. Survivors include four daughters, Martha Mellott, Jean O'hare and Shirley Sanders, all of Sterling, and Doris Ewers, of Milledgeville; a son, Donald (Diane) Ladenberger, of Geneva; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son; a daughter; two brothers, Alvin and Alfred Mueller; a sister, Martha Waller; and a granddaughter. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial is at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Paul Lipinski, celebrant, officiating. Burial is at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sterling. There is no visitation. Arrangements were completed by McDonald-Allen-Grennan Funeral Home, Sterling. A memorial has been established to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling.

ANDREW F. LAIR - Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. for Andrew F. Lair, 69-year-old former Rock Falls resident who passed away last Friday at the Whiteside County Nursing Home. The services were conducted at the Wheelock Funeral Home with Rev. H. C. Hatton, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial was in Rock Falls Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gerald, Harold, Walter, Silas and Glenn A. Holcomb and Raymond Lair.

CHARLES R. LAURI - The funeral of Charles R. Lauri was held at 11 a.m. today in the Melvin Funeral Home. Burial was made in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Pokinski, Adolph Model, Rigo Pettorini, John Wenk, Robert Gutches and Howard A. Dale. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Walter Thompson, Mrs. A. W. Peterson, Mrs. Frank McEleney and LeFevre Bros.

SIDNEY LAWLESS , 72, Oroville, Wash., formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Wash. Funeral services were held on Monday at the Ellisforde Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Ernest J. Bolz, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Brethren Cemetery, Ellisforde. A memorial has been established. He was born in Sheffield, England, Sept. 22, 1910, attended schools in that country before coming to the United States and married Ethel Cosey in Sterling on Sept. 17, 1939. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and moved to Sterling in 1949. He was employed by the Drew Construction Company while in Sterling, and moved to Washington in 1959. Also, he was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Ellisforde, Wash., and the Kiwanis Club of Oroville. Survivors include his wife of Oroville; a daughter, Mrs. Sid (Martha) Bosch; two grandchildren; and a sister of Chicago Heights. Preceding him in death was one brother.

AARON LEHMAN , of Sterling, succumbed to pneumonia this morning between 5 o'clock and 5:30 at his home, at 1406 East Fourth Street. Mr. Lehman had been ill for the past week with influenza and developed pneumonia yesterday. Mr. Lehman was 38 years of age and was employed as foreman at the National Manufacturing Co. He had many friends in the Twin Cities who mourn his death. He is survived by his widow and one small child, Lyle Jacob, aged four years, and a brother, Levi Lehman, of Sterling. No arrangements have been made for the funeral service.

OBITUARY: AARON LEHMAN - was born in Lancaster County, Pa., August 11, 1879, being a son of Jacob W. and Leah Lehman. He was the second of eight children, and his is the first death in the family. His parents came from their home in Lancaster County, Pa., to be present at the funeral services, which were held at 2:30 o'clock today, being conducted by Rev. Ralph V. Callaway, minister of the First Christian Church, of which the deceased was a (no words - publishing error) ......... Lehman leaves the following brothers and sisters: Levi H. Lehman, of Sterling; Mrs. Marian Brehm, Miss Anna Lehman, Miss Phoebe Lehman, Mrs. Emma Shatzer, all of Franklin County, Pa., Noah E. Lehman, in France, and Mrs. Leah Finafrock, Albany, Oregon. Aaron Lehman lived in Lancaster County, Pa., until he was twenty-one years old, since which time he has resided in Sterling. April 19, 1904, he was married to Miss Ruby Quick. To them two children were born, one of whom is dead, and the other, Lyle Jacob, is left to comfort his mother. The death of Mr. Lehman occurred Tuesday morning, Dec. 17th, after an illness of only six days with pneumonia and influenza. He was one of the foreman in the National Manufacturing Company, and one of their trusted men.

DONALD L. LEHMAN , 76, of 507 Avenue L., Sterling, died Feb 1, 1994, at Sterling Pavilion following an extended illness. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home, Rock Falls, and will be announced upon completion.

HERBERT L. LEHMAN ,70, of 601 11th Ave., Rock Falls, died Tuesday afternnon (23 July 1985) at Community General Hospital in Sterling. He and his wife Bernice operated Lehman's Grocery Store in Rock Falls for 34 years. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Grennan Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Risely officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be anytime Wednesday until the time of services. Mr. Lehman was born April 13, 1915 in Clinton, Ia., the son of Otto and Phyllis Rowe Lehman. He was a past member of Rock Falls City Council and a former alderman. The deceased was also a charter member of the Rock Falls Lions Club and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are one son, Bill of Sterling, two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Pat) Maddox of Rock Falls, and Mrs. Gene (Jeanne) Miller of Sterling; one sister, Alice Gorzney of Como; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice. A memorial has been established.

LULU (GRAHAM) LEHMAN , 79, 808 W. 13th St., Sterling, passed away at 1 a.m. Sunday in Home Hospital. Death came following an extended illness. The body was moved to the Behrens Mortuary, where friends may call at any time. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Mortuary, with Rev. Richard Hanson of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverside. Lulu Graham was born Jan 11, 1887 in Sterling, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Graham. She was educated in the Emerson School and Brown's Business College. She was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. and the Sterling Fashion Shop. She was married to Abe Whitmer in 1926 in Moline, and he passed away in 1941. In 1948 she was married to Noah Lehman in Lena, Ill., by the Rev. Clarence Warfel. Mrs. Lehman was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, of which she was a past noble grand, the Royal Neighbors of America, the Womens Relief Corps, and of St. John's Church and the Garden Club of St. Johns. She is survived by her husband, one son, Carl of Sterling; one daughter, Mrs. Lauren Gell of Sterling; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Talbott, Los Angeles, Calif, and Mrs. Jessie Breitweiser, Sterling; and a number of nephews and nieces. She was preceded by her husband and one sister.

LUCY (SANDROCK) LINAWEAVER ,73, of Prophetstown, died early Friday morning at Morrison Community Hospital where she had been a patient for the past two months. The body has been taken to the Gardner Funeral Home in Prophetstown where friends may call at the chapel. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30i p.m. at the Prophetstown Methodist Church, with the Rev. Hollis Wharton of Walnut and the Rev. Stockton Swaney officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Lucy Sandrock was born June 1, 1882 in Bureau County, the daughter of Barnhardt and Anna Lickhart Sandrock. She was educated at Woodward's Bluff School. She was married at her home near Prophetstown Jan. 1, 1902 to Harry Linaweaver of Sheffield. She was a member of the Leon Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Clayton (Bertha) Clements, Prophetstown; one brother, Casper Sandrock, Morrison; one grandchild and one great grandchild. Four brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

OSCAR P. LIPPINS , 84, of rural Prophetstown, died Thursday Dec. 13, 2007, at his home. He was a lifetime farmer in the Prophetstown area. Mr. Lippens was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Deer Grove, the son of Maurice and Irma (Diericks) Lippens. He attended Hooppole schools. He married Irene Rogers on Oct. 25, 1944, in Prophetstown. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, Prophetstown. Survivors include his wife; a son, Roger (Simona) Lippens, of Prophetstown; a sister, Clara (Paul) Primofiore of Rio Dell, Calif.; four grandchildren, Rodney Lippens, Michelle Watts, Stephanie Rogers and Jennifer Howard, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfons Lippens; and a sister, Della Heitzler. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Prophetstown, with the Rev. Francis Wawryszuk, celebrant, officiating. Burial is at Lyndon Cemetery, Lyndon. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements were completed by McDonald Funeral Home, Prophetstown.

HARRY LOCKETT - co-owner and partner of his wife and nephew, Nelson Figeley, of the Lockett Paint Store, passed away suddenly at 7 a.. this morning of a heart attack. Mr. Lockett had been with the Northwestern Steel and Wire Company for many years, acting as fire marshall and fire chief and was a past president of the Blackhawk Firefighters Association. He was born in Georgetown, Ill., the son of Frank and Rosalina Redfern Lockett, both of whom passed away when Harry was a young man. His home has been in this vicinity since that time. He was united in marriage with Vanessa Klocke of Rock Falls at Madison, Wis., and the family home has always been at 610 3rd Ave., Rock Falls. Mr. Lockett is survived by his widow, Vanessa, his wife's mother, Mrs. Henry Klocke, to whom he was a devoted son; a brother, Forest Lockett of St. Louis, Mo., his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Figeley, and his two nephews, Nelson L. and Maurice Figeley, Sr. He was a member of the Sterling Lodge of Elks, No. 1218, and all who knew him were his friends. His interests were centered always on his home life and civic and welfare interests. Funeral services will be held at the Melvin Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, with burial in the family plot in the Rock Falls Odd Fellows Cemetery. The Rev. Russell L. Fate, pastor of the Rock Falls Congregational Church, will officiate at the services. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Thursday.

ELLEN (POLLARD) LOFTUS - The funeral of Mrs. John Loftus, Sr., 70, of Albany, who died Friday morning at Mercy hospital in Clinton, Ia., was held this morning at the church of the Immaculate Conception in Fulton, with burial in Calvary Hill Cemetery there. Survivors include six sons, Lee and John Loftus, both of Savanna, Lenoard of East Moline, Edward of Fulton, Lester of Polo, and William of Geneseo; two daughters, Mrs. Millard Turner of Savanna, and Miss Ellen Loftus of Dixon; 20 grandchildren; a brother John Pollard and a sister Mrs. Katherine Dolan, both of Albany.

WINNIE C. LOFTUS , 103, of Fulton, died Jan. 23, 2010, at Alverno Health Care Center, Clinton, Iowa. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fulton, with the Rev. David Austin officiating. Burial will be in Calvery Cemetery, Fulton. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Church. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements. She was born on Oct. 22, 1906, in Fulton. She married Edward Loftus. Surviving are her son, Donald (Nan) Loftus, of Fulton; a son-in-law, Thomas Cannon, of Clinton; nine grandchildren, including Patrick (Vicki) Leonard and Jo Anne Schroeder, both of Dubuque; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; three daughters, Betty (Paul) Leonard, Francis Cannon and Carolyn Cole; a grandson, Robert Cole; and a great-grandson, Michael Paul Leonard.

HAROLD E. LUDVIGSEN , 76, 104 1/2 Main St., Albany, died Sunday at the Bluff Terrace Nursing Home, Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma Funeral Home with burial in the Clinton Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church of Albany. Born on Dec. 24, 1905 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Mary Jensen Ludvigsen, he attended Clinton grade schools. On June 30, 1928 he married Pearl A. Webber in Clinton. He was a 50 year members of the Carpenters Union Local 772 of Clinton, and the Albany United Methodist Church. For the past year he resided at the Bluff Terrace Nursing Home and the six years prior to that he resided in Albany. Survivors include his wife, Pearl; one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Bonnie) Holcomb, Albany; three sons, Donald, Monticello, Iowa; David and James, both of Clinton; 14 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were one grandson, a half-sister and a half-brother.

MRS. WILLIAM LUNNING - The body of Mrs. William Luning, 76, who died Sunday following an auto accident near Thomasville, Ga., will be brought to the Gardner Funeral Home, where funeral arrangements will be complete. Mr. and Mrs. Luning were returning early Sunday morning, to their home in Prophetstown after spending the winter in their trailer home in Florida, when the car driven by Luning went out of control. They were former Erie residents. Luning received a broken leg below the knee and Mrs. Luning, who had been hospitalized for several weeks during the winter, died a few hours later.
