ELIZABETH (HUTCHINSON) MANNING
- The funeral services over the remains of Mrs. A. V. Manning of Lyndon will occur Saturday [09/04/1915] aftrnoon at 2 o’clock at her late home in Lyndon, with burial in the Lyndon cemetery. Elizabeth Hutchinson was born on May 30, 1843 at Elkhart, Ind., and passed away at her late home in Lyndon on Sept. 2, 1915. She moved to Lyndon when she was about 9 years of age and made that place her home until called away by death. On Dec. 24, 1863 she was married to A. V. Manning, and to this union five children were born all of whom survive with her husband. The children are Mrs. W. P. Benson of this city, William Manning of Marceline, Mo., John Manning of Biark, S. D., Arthur Manning of Kokomo, Ind. and Rex Manning of this city. Also eight grand sons and two grand sons. In her passing Mrs. Manning leaves a legion of friends who were sorry to learn of her death. Mrs. Manning was a true christian woman, a loving mother, a true wife and noble companion.
(Memorial) - The funeral of Mrs. A. V. Manning was held from the late home in Lyndon Saturday [09/04/1915] afternoon. Rev. Jones of Sterling, paying fitting tribute to a beloved and good woman. The pall bearers were the four sons, William, John, Arthur and Rex. The profusion of floral offerings silently expressed love and devotion and Mrs. W. F. Millikan and Mrs. H. C. Austin sweetly sang, “Nearer My God to Thee” and “The City Four Square.” The funeral cortege consisting of kindred and friends drove to the Lyndon cemetery where the remains were tenderly consigned to earth. The Eastern Star order using part of the ritual as another link to their golden chain was severed. With the passing of Mrs. Elizabeth Manning many mourn that one who has lived and labored among them will be absent from her accustomed place in home, church and lodge, the home that was founded fifty-three years ago, the Congregational church that has known nearly as many years of loyal and active membership and the Rock River Chapter, O. E. S., of which she was a charter member.
But her mission on earth is ended and we think of her as one of whom it is well to be gone and no golden epitaph is needed to keep in memory one so worthy. The life she lived, the home she made, the family she reared speak more eloquently than words and yet we fain would draw a halo round her beautous name. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Manning of Kokomo, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Benson and sons, Merrill and Keith of Sterling, Mrs. Mabel Rice of Rock Falls, William Manning of Marceline, Mo., John Manning of Clark, S.
